Teammates Letting You Die

Aerilus·12/14/2015, 6:59:40 PM·10 votes·3,896 views

Since I usually play support, I'm more willing to tank hits for people. If I'm certain a teammate will die and I can save them by diving in front, I will.

However, I noticed almost no one else does this for me, even if they are full health. Teammates will run away to avoid getting hit once or twice while i'm getting attacked and let me get stunned 2+ times in a row while they're running away. I've even seen a teammate run away the moment the enemy team stunned me, they were full health and they just run as fast as possible when they could have easily saved me and maybe got a kill or two, but no.. they just run.

This becomes increasingly frustrating when a player who lets me die starts flaming me for 'feeding' when it is almost directly their fault I died. I don't rage but I ask if people can'please stay with me when I'm getting focused' - this just increases their flaming and their resistance in helping me survive.

Obviously, my teammates are not responsible for my deaths. But there are several situations where they act like they're going in or attacking, and as soon as I get stunned they run away and I get hard focused and most likely will die from it. I would say a good 50% of my deaths are from situations like this

This topic really has no point, I'm just getting sick of it, when it's me and my teammate going in- I get stunned and focused 3+ times, and my teammate runs away FULL health, not even remotely attempting to help me escape or get a kill.

I've gotten a lot better by focusing on when the other team will go in on a 'caught out' teammate, and focusing them then (which is usually when my teammates would just run for the hills if it was me getting stunned). Maybe I've gotten better at this particular strategy than the average person in my games, cause I focus on odd things being support, but still bugs me when no one takes advantage of these opportunities and instead lets their teammate get screwed.

Agree with OP, but keep in mind sometimes people make the decision that it could mean a double kill for the other team. I do this sometimes, like if the 0/3 nidalee gets caught out by two enemies, I am not saving her. I'm sorry to that nidalee, but it would be worse if I helped xD

reminds me of the good old days of playing cod with my friends and the random outburst of "YOU JUST WATCHED ME DIE" every now and then

Try to read your teammate's "body language". Are you in the jungle or pushed far with little vision? Does your adc look sheepish and stays back and looks like they don't want to be there? Then you should expect them to run at first sight of danger and leave you behind.

If I think my teammate is doing this, I run back a bit myself. Just a few steps. Do they follow on by retreating a bit too? Then they are definitely thinking "let's gtfo", and it's probably best to do just that, just because of the increased risk of being left behind.

I wish people would ping "caution" to indicate they aren't really comfortable following you or staying pushed in deep, but often they don't. Taking non-verbal clues like this works reasonably well in solo queue, although it requires some practice.

Finally, pay attention to a teammate that consistently leaves you behind - these do happen of course - but instead of getting upset simply adjust how you play to take this into account. It's not much different to simply being next to someone who's literally unable to put on the necessary pressure to help you escape: you just position as if you were alone (meaning don't be in situations when you need someone's help to escape). You'll die the first couple of time, of course, while you figure out that your teammate is like this, but shouldn't have to die more than that.

Oh I'll let someone leave me to die like, one time.

Then they're dead to me and on their own. I'mma take my zeke's herald top lane, where I'm appreciated. No sir, I will not intercept that ultimate for you, suffer and die.

I'm only sort of joking. But it's seriously just how I avoid getting flamed. It's more likely I'll get called out for dying than not dying for some random. Let Riven go 1/4, even if I could have helped by eating it once or twice, it's her fault she's in that situation half the time. When I play with friends none of this applies however.

Basically how I feel when I play Sion, go in, get hit by everything and don't die in a hurry and my team just kinda... Doesn't do anything. I'm just like "THEY'RE LITERALLY ALL FOCUSING ME, MURDER THEM."

Selfish people everywhere in this game.

I also have an issue with teammates trolling hard. I was Malz and had the enemy ez caught with my E ticking. Easy kill that would bounce to the enemy soraka which I was about to ult. Nope our bard had to troll and throw his ult onto ez which saved him and then soraka healed him to full and then they aced us....game just ended in surrender. Why does riot keep putting in these troll ults? Bard and Kindred almost always save the enemy team over their own.

Aerilus,

I agree, it can be frustrating to feel that you, being the support, have no support. Toottaally feel you there man. Not that way. That's gross.

Anyways, the problem is, you've begun to feel that you deserve support. Nobody deserves anything. The only player who is always there (trying) to save you is yourself. Let that sink in a moment. Nobody else is playing the game for your sake.

They are playing to win. Newbies translate that into 'We lose if I die', or perhaps 'we win if I kill'. More experienced players often realize that getting a tower down can be more important than one life (sometimes). They also realize that helping their team-mate, no matter how stupid, to survive is sometimes a winning tactic. Certainly, ask for help if you need it, but just do your best to avoid throwing responsibility for your survival into your ally's hands; most of the time they fumble.

Perhaps they had a valid reason for running, like realizing you'd die, and they'd end up surrounded by 3 enemies. That's a death sentence if the one that stunned you is still alive. Maybe they're just not comfortable with the matchup. Regardless, you're the one who might've warded the jungle before you tried poking.

Finally, in the case that they may legitimately have helped, send a quick message. "Hey, poppy, we could've pushed mid together if you got Garen off me." But above all, respect the fact that they are individuals. No matter how much you could've used their help, they still reserve the right to say 'lol, nope! I'mma die if I go there'.

You also reserve the right to seeth silently (silent because you'll be frustrated, and will be banned if you cannot resist the urge to belittle your team). You also reserve the right to let them cough valiantly cough try to 1v5 the enemy team under their tower as they ride to mid. If they don't understand the value of working together, you'll probably see them making mistakes. Hopefully you'll be the one to show them (not yell at them) how to do it the right way :)

It's funny because I usually have the opposite problem. I get caught and my whole team makes the stupid play to try and save me while I'm trying to ping them all back.

How does not have any replies yet, lol, I see this shit almost every game, if not happening to me, then to other people.

ok, I'd just like to post this as a Leona player. Sometimes we make mistakes.

I've had more instances than I'd like to count where I've engaged, and regretted it for whatever reason. Maybe they flashed out, maybe the Jungler was just waiting for me to E, maybe I threw my E out and got interrupted by Soraka's silence, and couldn't W/Q to combo, it could be just about anything. And I admit - I fled.

Sometimes it's reasons beyond our control. I sporadically get 600+ ping. No reason, my piing just feels like adding an extra 0 to itself. When that happens, I know I can't sup properly, and I run - hoping that my ADC will take the hint and run too - especially considering that most are range, they shouldn't be in too much trouble anyways. not like I can ping out a warning in time anyways.

I'm not making excuses for anyone else, or even myself. Hell, sometimes we panic and run. Look at it this way, though. If the sup runs, there's likely a reason for it. And (as much as I hate to say it) I'd rather see you die than see us both die. I've made this decision many times, and T hate doing it every time - especially because I'm seen as a jackass for it.

It's not "better you than me", it's "better you than us."

On that note, I'd like to apologize for all the supports having to make this decision, and having to deal with the fallout. And to all the ADCs who feel under-appreciated, and even trolled as a result.

Or who knows, sometimes you get a shitty sup. I'm just a newbie, what do I know?

Looking at your match history, you are playing a lot of bot games. This in itself is not the problem. However the most recent game I was able to find was when you were playing Janna, on your team there is one player who was level 30 other than yourself. The other three were level 19, 18, and 9 respectively. You are playing with people who aren't as familiar with the game as you. That's probably the reason.

Samus7212/14/2015, 7:38:37 PM1 votes

Because diving in to save you means they run the risk of being killed themselves. And then being told "stop feeding" by the jerks.

Eh, it's like one of the commentators at the All-Star thing said. It's a player's instinct to run and let the first target die.

When I was trying to play support (it's one of my weaker roles, for sure), I was playing with an ezreal as lulu. It was around late game and I saw the enemy blitzcrank going to pull ez, who would have died to the combo. So I flashed.

In FRONT of the pull. I took the pull and proceeded to try and get ezreal out of there. Sadly, neither of us made it back, though the blitzcrank did mention the flash.

This is one of the most frustrating parts of support. Carries are fragile little babies I swear.
