Is it just me or is there a lack of AP scalings right now?
#Greetings fellow humanoids!
TL;DR version at the bottom for those cucks that don't give a fuck about details.
So recently, the long-awaited rework for Urgot has finally arrived. [slayer-pantheon-thumbs]
...And many people seem excited to play him. I wanted to try him out in training and see where his strengths and weaknesses lie. I already owned him before his rework (Inb4 being a hipster) and I might aswell check out what they changed. However, I had no idea what to build on him whatsoever. What masteries and runes to go for, what items to build, etc. etc.

Since Riot has stopped giving tips on what stats to go for and general item build ideas in their champion spotlights (Champion spotlights used to be up to 8 minutes long but now it seems to have dropped to 4 minutes with the Urgot champion spotlight. Only addressing his abilities and his gameplay, leaving the masteries, runes, and items up to yourself with no idea how to build him, since he's so different after the rework. I think the last champion spotlight to give tips on builds was the Yorick rework spotlight.), I found it difficult to find the best way of building him. [zombie-nunu-bummed]
So, I decided to try and come up with my own build. Before the rework I went for the standard Urgot build. Manamune, Frozen Heart, Black Cleaver, etc. etc. But since his old Q, Acid Hunter, which was a spammable ability like Cassiopeia's E, which would churn through a lot of mana really quickly and the maximum mana scaling on his W, Terror Capacitor were removed, mana items aren't really that important on him anymore. [slayer-jinx-unamused]
But that got me thinking. I usually look at a champion's scalings to determine what to build on them and since his W used to scale with maximum mana, I usually builded lots of mana. But not only that, it also scaled with AP, yet he was never builded as a mage, ever. Now this is where my main point comes into play. Over the last few months there has been a decrease in AP scalings on AD oriented champions. Kled, Camille, Xayah, Kayn, and now the Urgot rework. All of these are AD champions yes, and I will agree it is stupid to give someone who is supposed to build Attack Damage an ability, that is only stronger if you build ability power, but old AD champions still have AP scalings on atleast one or two of their abilities, yet these newer champions have none. [zombie-nunu-bummed]
Last ADC/Marksman released to have AP scalings was Jhin and the last AD oriented champion in general to be realeased with AP scalings was Yorick (And he was a damn rework for crying out loud). If you look at old AD champions, they usually have atleast one ability that scales with AP (Or both AD and AP). Normally this ability would be useless and more of a utility spell throughout the entire game, unless you went for a full AP build. [slayer-pantheon-popcorn]
Most of the time though, the results of going full AP were either really really good, or really really bad. A good example would be full AP Tristana. Even though she was meant to be a marksman, she was one of the only ADCs with ONLY AP SCALINGS. And the scalings were actually pretty high. Her W sat at a 80% AP ratio. Her E, both the passive and active component, sat at a 100% AP ratio. And her ult sat at a 150% AP RATIO. Do you know how insane that is?

However. The only thing holding her back from becoming the inner Mage that she really is (was), was her Passive, Draw a Bead and her Q, Rapid Fire. Draw a Bead would give Tristana bonus attack range while Rapid Fire would give her bonus attack speed. This put her in an awkward position, since 3 of her abilities, including her ult, scaled with AP, while 2 of her abilities were Basic Attack oriented.
However people would still do it. Like I said earlier with old AD champions having one spell that was useless, Tristana simply had two. Now, AP Tristana is, sadly, not as useful as it used to be after her Rework. Her W now scales with 50% AP, her E's passive component now scales with 25% AP, and the E's active component's AP ratios has been reduced to 50%, with 15% extra per stack, granting a fully-charged E, 110% AP scaling, 10% more than before the rework. [zombie-nunu-hearts]
So you might be thinking: "That's a 10% increase in the scaling! Why is AP Tristana bad if she got buffed?". It's simple. It's because her E now scales with AD aswell. 110% to be precise, the exact same as the AP scaling. HOWEVER!, it is increased by 33% PER STACK AS BONUS AD. it is actually worse to go her AP than AD even though the majority of her scalings are AP. [zombie-nunu-tears]
Before, you were able to jump in with a 80% AP jump and hit the enemy with a 150% AP ult and get a kill for pressing two (three) buttons. ADC Tristana wasn't and still isn't capable of doing that, atleast, not to the biggest effect since the base damage at rank 3 is only a measly 500 base magic damage, in comparison to Ashe's ult at rank 3, which deals 600 base magic damage, is global, stuns for up to 3.5 seconds, and the cooldown is only 5 seconds longer. [zombie-brand-mindblown]
#TL;DR and conclusion. In my opinion, almost every champion should have atleast one AP scaling ability. If a champion only has AD scaling abilities, they are able to utilize all of their abilities to the fullest extend, Without any repercussions, while older champions are forced to have an ability that is essentially dead weight or has some form of utility like Wukong's W. The damage of which scales with Ability Power, but can make Wukong invisible and make a clone of him where he stood.
An alternative would be to make every single AD oriented champion only have AD scalings. Now. I would be very sad if Riot decided to go with this route one day and it would just be all out war over if AP champions are better than AD champions or vice versa. I have no problem with AP oriented champions not having AD scalings since, first off, they are ABILITY oriented champions where as AD champions are basic ATTACK oriented champions. And second off, it's called ABILITY POWER for a reason. It's supposed to POWER up the damage of your ABILITIES, where as ATTACK DAMAGE is literally only added DAMAGE to your basic ATTACKS, so why would it make an ability stronger? [zombie-brand-facepalm]
In conclusion I hope you all found what you were all looking for and that my post wasn't a complete waste of your time. What do you think should be done about AP scalings on AD champions? Shameless self promotion, I know. [slayer-jinx-wink]
#This has been Lord smilla speaking, goodbye and have a nice day.
Random fact for today: Did you know, that the Ferocity mastery, Fury, at five ranks, provides the same attack speed as 1/3 of a dagger, cashing in on a gold value of 100 gold? [zombie-brand-mindblown]
