Counter picks to a midlane Zed?

First of all, whenever you play against Zed or any other dive-heavy champion always take exhaust. It shuts off their engage whenever it's up. Additionally, if you're playing an AP champion, you have to take Zhonya's 2nd item as it completely negates his ult. Though be wary in teamfights, if you use it to avoid anything else he has free range to fuck you up as usual.

As to counterpicks:

- Frequent stuns are gonna give him a hard time and post-6 he will be very reluctant to start anything with you, if he's smart. However, if you want to engage on him always do so with your ult and your passive up, as a good Zed will simply dodge your Q with his ult and proceed to mop the floor with you using a double shuriken.

- Your all-in levels 2-5 is better than his and post 6 you can simply use your ult to avoid his very easily. Shoving lane hard with Q is recommended as he will have to use his abilities to waveclear instead of fighting you but make sure to keep map awareness and vision as that leaves you open to ganks.

- You have point-and-click harass that he can't avoid by any means other than simply staying out of your range, which forces him to use his shadow to farm instead of fighting you. As usual, you can always avoid his ult with your W but make sure to not let him bait you into using it prematurely as that allows him to ult you normally. If he has matchup knowledge, he will grab an Executioner's Calling to cut your healing quite a bit, which still allows him to trade with you. Poke whenever you can, outfarm him and scale into a much better teamfighter than him as he's forced to splitpush.

- You can easily 1v1 him any day as soon as you hit level 2 and your ult makes it hard for him to make use of his. Additionally, your W zones him off of CS so make sure to walk back and forth while you have the ability up to deny him as much CS as possible.

- Eggnivia will always make him think twice about engaging you and post-6 you can infinitely push the wave with your ult. Good wall placement can also shut down a lot of the things he tries. Don't get greedy and watch for ganks.

- Tanky AP Cho'Gath mid isn't played very much right now as Tank Stoneplate + Locket Cho'Gath is absolutely busted, but it's still a very viable counterpick against not just Zed but any Assassin. Your passive sustain allows you to shrug off any and all poke he might lay on you, but make sure to play conservatively pre-6 as you're still pretty squishy. Once you get a rod and your ult, just nom up and get so tanky that he can't even think about touching you.

- You just permapush with your E and your Q and ult just shut him down. The rest is mostly the same as Ekko and Anivia, just watch for ganks and keep map awareness and you should do just fine.

shits on Zed in the laning phase

This honestly sounds stupid. But part of Zeds whole thing is the fact that he needs to jump on top of you. Rakan has two pieces in his kit that completely punishes this, a regenerating shield, and a healing ability that scales with your AP. With a steady income of gold, he can become one nightmarish full AP tank mage that can blow up nearly anyone in a full rotation.

If your Jungler shows up, you have the CC (and a surprising amount of damage) to keep Zed locked down to secure the kill.

Anybody with a stun because you know exactly where he will be when he Rs. Even better if you can get under tower when he Rs.

I've heard ekko does because your ult is really good vs Zeds, and since you're ap you can go for hourglass

akali, ekko, talon, a good anivia, fizz, a good vladimir.

The ones I'm saying good to are ones you need to time correctly, the other ones are pretty much hard counters

is pretty good post 6. Zed can bully you a little before that but it's not that bad. is a good choice too

Vladimir does pretty well

I like to pick ziliean, hes easy to predict to bomb, if he ults you can speed and run under turret and your ult is such a good counter to his, not only for you but for your whole team

Kayle won't be able to kill Zed but she can negate his ult with her ult and she can also punish him for roaming by shoving lane very quickly. She is arguably his best counter.

As a Zed main, don't worry about it :)

As a zed player, this are the champs I hate dealing with

Invisibility prevents your ult, and she has better mobility and sustain, He can silence, deal massive dps, and have an ult that makes Zed useless, and wave clear Ult is a pain to deal, not to mention he has better all in potential at level 2.
