I really hope that the next new champion will be "Aatrox"

For those confused by the title: I mean the OLD Aatrox.

Just like with Galio , Aatrox was supposed to be "reworked" and has been replaced with a completely different champion Aatrox with a gameplay/playstyle that is hundreds and hundreds of kilometers away from the original "reworked" one.

Don't get me wrong: I love Aatrox , he is really fun and interesting enought to not be reverted, but its sad that Riot completely erased old Aatrox. I used to love playing him and was hyped for his "rework" so he could get some new freshness, but we all got served with an entirely new and different champion instead.

So, what I hope (even if I admit that its pretty damn impossible) is that the next new champion we'll get will be the old Aatrox in terms of gameplay/mechanics, introducing something new but with the familiarity of the champion that we loved and sadly lost without warnings...

Edit: Oh wow, so much for Aatrox anciently being one of the most ignored champs... I just share how disapointed I am for losing him and people are going nuts because they are hating the idea of someone wanting back a champion that no one cared about since some weeks ago. I mean, Old Aatrox was appreciated by a lot of people, especially when he became one of the most played top laners pre-rework, but it seems like people here are going with the "I didn't like his kit before so no one should ever have" sh!tty kind of logic. He went from a champ that was even worse than old yorick to someone who was starting to point his nose into the meta to an entirely new champ, but you guys are acting like he was the most cancerous garbage of a champ while he barely had some weeks above 50% winrate. But yeah, cancerous things like Camille or Irelia are still a thing but "Aatrox was such a problem and unhealthy for the game" right? RIGHT? He barely had some weeks of glory pre-rework and yet those just killed without reason any respect that this champion ever had... good job guys

Old Aatrox was unhealthy for the game. Stat check and drain-tank are not good to have in-game. Let it go dude, Old Aatrox had to go.

Downward comparisons are invalid reasoning. Just because other champions are a problem does not mean your champion deserves to be left alone and kept problematic as well.

except several of those he mentioned were reworked, and a few recently. So Riot is fine with the concept. So its not a good excuse.

Fred and Brad are toddler twins. Fred breaks his arm and brad breaks his leg.

Would it be fair to tell Brad he can't go to the hospital just because Fred isn't going to be taken either? No. Both problems deserve to be addressed.

Just because one does not get addressed first does not mean we should also ignore the other one.

This is a dumb comparison because, again, some of the champions on the list have

And ill separate it so maybe you dont over look it this time

already been reworked

meaning riot doesnt consider it a problem

or they would have fixed it

So the more accurate comparison would be "Fred and Brad are toddler twins. They both have toys that make a lot of noise. Their parents painted Freds toy red to make it different but are fine with the noise, even though its louder than Brads. Does it make sense they should then take Brads away because it makes noise?"

Reworks are not done in a vacuum. Other factors weigh in, such as:

  1. opportunity for development
  2. opportunity cost
  3. resources available to work on it
  4. scope and scale of change
  5. age of the character's kit
  6. etc.

So characters that need a larger rework still sometimes get minor updates and modernizations. Mundo is one such example of this.

Just because they get a kit modernization doesn't mean that Riot thinks they're all fine and dandy. It could also mean that they didn't have the resources available to do a full scale rework at the time so they did as much to update the character as they practically could at the time.

Most of the characters listed also aren't as much of a threat to game balance as Aatrox was. They have counterplay of various kinds. Aatrox was balanced on a knife's edge, if anything nerfed him he became useless and if anything buffed him he became oppressive. These other characters do not suffer from the same level of instability as old Aatrox did.

Additionally, that list of characters was entirely subjective. Some of them didn't even belong on the list. And the list was missing characters.

Trundle and WW werent modernized, they were full reworked.

I didn't say they were modernizations. I said Mundo was a modernization. Don't straw-man me, that's super shitty.

Trundle was reworked before Riots policies changed to the way they are now.

And Warwick is not a stat-check or a drain tank.

To be honest the old aatrox wasn't weak. It was his "boring" playstyle that made this fairly new champion to be reworked. No wonder they changed him completely gameplay-wise.

Old Aatrox's design was really shit, but his character design was super cool. So people lump his fantasy together with his shitty ass kit.

You have a perfected form of the old Aatrox.

His name is Xin Zhao.

Xin Zhao has every strength the old Aatrox did aside from the revive, without the inherent failings of his design.

He is an auto-attack based diver with a heal/bonus damage on every third hit-- but unlike Aatrox he doesn't have to choose between them.

He has a higher-range gapcloser and a knockup that can't be dodged.

He has a skillshot slow that applies the third-hit passive.

He gains the attack speed from his E rather than his ultimate/passive.

Instead of having to dive in and die to ranged abilities and multiple enemies, Xin Zhao knocks away other melee opponents besides his target and becomes immune to ranged abilities outside of his ultimate. Allowing him stronger immunity than a revive without the downtime.

You have old Aatrox. You always have. Xin Zhao's existence is one reason why old Aatrox didn't belong in the game-- because if they ever made him more effective he would just be a copy of Xin Zhao.

I have to wonder how many times the community had to bash their heads in with a hammer to forget that this is par for the course for remakes? Many champions had considerable changes for their rereleases that made them play considerably different than before: Yorick, Poppy, Taric, Fiora, Evelynn, Ryze, Sion and Urgot all come to mind. Each and every time, people have tried to defend the old designs. Even Yorick. EVEN FUCKING YORICK.

Hell, people complained about Aurelion Sol being changed even before his release! Like they don't understand how concepts and ideas change on the cutting room floor.

I swear, Riot could release a champion that did nothing but scream at 50,000 decibels for every skill and the community would still bend over backwards to defend it.

A problem with the old design, aside from being the very embodiment of feast/famine gameplay, is that Aatrox was implied to be some sort of morale booster to his team (basically the concept of Jarvan's banner applied to an entire champion), but in practice he was just a brawler roughly on par with Tryndamere who didn't do anything for his allies at all. If they made him into a support fighter like he was implied to be, then the entire community would have thrown a cosmic shitfit, as they would see that as a massive downgrade, and the support role in general is treated by the community slightly worse than child molesters. That aside, the story behind the Darkin has changed since their first introduction, now that their story is being expanded upon five years after Aatrox's release. He's no longer out to win wars for others, but rather drape the world in blood in a berserker rage and exact his revenge on a little girl for sealing him away. Also kick the crap out of Varus for not following the Darkin's two A's rule.

In some ways, he's like Sion now, except Sion has no style or form aside from sheer brute strength, while Aatrox has countless years of combat experience either hindered or amplified by his unfettered anger at the world and Zoe.

I mean... feel free to hold out hope but you're gonna be disappointed. They haven't "brought back" any of the champs they've reworked this way... as much as I'd love to get back old Skarner, Fiora or Cassiopeia.
