Mastry and Ranked

I just had a thought, what if the mastery system could be used as a way to prevent new people from playing ranked. Example, if you don't have a first level of mastery for at least 3 champs, no ranked for new players (older players are exempt). Or maybe require everyone to have the first level of mastery for every one of the roles you can play. That would encourage people to get good with the champs they like first, balance them out a little, and put in some kind of baseline skill level for ranked.

What for? To prevent people from playing stuff they dont know? just because you have mastery with one or two champions doesnt mean you will be playing those champions every game. There will be many times still that people will be playing new stuff regardless. This wouldn't really solve anything.

Actually yeah it would. It would solve a major problem with some people that are like "first x champ" in ranked. Which they really shouldn't be doing anyway. You should always play the champion outside of Ranked before hand, so if they were locked out of playing the champ there it'd help a lot.

No it wouldn't... Lets say i have X mastery on Draven, Jinx, and vayne and i go into a ranked game and play against a team and i'm unable to play any of those champions. WHAT IS NOW STOPPING ME FROM PLAYING KOGMAW WHOM I'VE NEVER PLAYED BEFORE IN RANKED? Listen dude, no matter what they implement, nothing is goign to stop players from playing something for the first time in ranked. I've played plenty of champions for the first time in ranked and won lots of games. The problem is your mentality towards it. I have a strong understanding of ADCs so if a new ADC comes out i can handle the basics of it very easily at a high level.

You don't read do you?

What is being said here is that they implement a base rank that is needed on a champion IN ORDER to play them in ranked. So if you have a mastery of 0 on Kog you can't play him, where as if you had a mastery of 3-4 on Draven, Jinx or Vayne you COULD play them in ranked.

Smite: Battleground of the Gods does this with their champion mastery system and it works great.

If Mastery had always been a thing, sure. But not now. You need 16 champions to play Draft pick, so why would the Mastery requirement not need you to have 16 champions "mastered" instead of just 3? Or why just levels for "every role you play"? because some roles are harder to get (more people want to play it) than others and you don't always get what you want. It would have to be every role, and multiple champions for each.

The simple requirements you laid out would quickly become a very large amount of time to be relevant, and would only be a pain in the ass for those that already know what they're doing (so would probably end up only being required of Bronze or Unranked players). And those players might not even play that many games in an entire season, so having that requirement might make them quit LoL immediately.

Not enough thought put into this. There's a lot more to consider.

If we had Mastery from the word Go, I'd like it. As it is, I've got 4 or so YEARS of playing LoL that I am not going to get any Mastery points for. I'm not going to go grind -- for a second time mind you -- to get mastery on those characters I've played for years, just so I can use them in Ranked like I could the day before Mastery went live.
