My new brother brong up a really good point regarding being a one trick pony

He was arguing with me because i told him stop playing riven and illaoi. He told me ''i fucking cant, i wanna play ekko i wanna play brand but i dont have rune pages''

So i asked him to just change the second page to AP. He told me what if the enemy team takes riven then im forced to play illaoi with my riven runes or vice versa because i got my secondary lane.

He honestly brings up a really good point. Rune pages cost a bit too much IMO. Even ive been playing for a year and only have 5 pages. Thats kinda rough on people trying to pick up new champs. Let alone he cant afford runes

I've been playing for 2 years and I've had no problems just using 2 pages

I didn't really have any issues purchasing rune pages or runes and accumulated mine pretty quickly. Then again, I was also in the habit of accumulating 20k IP before purchasing champions and grabbed everything I wanted.

This meant that whenever sales for BOGO rune pages or discounted runes were announced, I'd tend to have 40k IP when the sale started.

Honestly, I'd recommend just dropping $20 for the 7 Rune Page Bundle. It is pretty cheap and rune pages are rather important to have.

IIRC, sales on runes and rune pages seem to have been occurring near the start/end of seasons, so I'd recommend stockpiling IP for when that occurs.

i barely use more than 3 pages. I just have a generic AD one, a generic AP one and a generic support one. You don't need to have specific rune pages for every single champion in the game. Just a generic page is more than enough for 95% of the champions in the game

Yeah do this. Maybe a generic tank one too. (I'd probably prioritize that over a generic support if rune pages are limited, as most supports can do fine with generic ap or generic tank).

If you're an intense one trick then you can flesh out with very specific rune pages (One trick runes versus all AP) (One trick runes versus all AD) (One trick runes versus normal comp) (One trick leeroy jenkins) etc. with those being a page with extra mr and no/less armour, a page with no/less mr and extra armour, normal stuff, all offensive stuff, and so on.

That said, the whole rune system is somewhat unsatisfying and riot acknowledges this, so while they don't want to do anything major during this season, it wouldn't surprise me to see the rune system get pretty heavily overhauled next year.

Don't want to spend 6300 ip on Rune Pages? Well you can buy them with RP, and they're cheaper than most champions and skins. -Riot

I just use the rune pages I have for the two main champs I play. one ap and one ad. Of course you can't super specialize for each champ but it really doesn't affect you as much as people tend to think they do. As long as you're not using one that pumps AP into your AD champ then you'll be fine with whatever is in the rune page.

I have one page for AD and one for AP. Screw rune optimization.

better yet, just add more rune slots for rune pages so you can put everything in one page.

seriously though i only used, have, a full attack speed rune page for my smurf account and im about to be plat 5 with it. playing singed - full attack speed rune page. Playing veigar - full attack speed rune page. Playing sion - full attack speed rune page. Playing alistar - full attack speed rune page. etc. etc. etc..

Runes are nice and helpful but they are not mandatory to win. I just screw around on my smurf account playing with wonky builds half the time with less than ideal rune pages and still win so rune pages are definitely not a reason to not play new champs.

If you wanna see the smurf account im talking about so you see im not kidding, here it is http://na.op.gg/summoner/userName=TroySmurf003

I have a somewhat tanky AD, AP and Riven page.

I literally have no reason to worry about any other champ other than Riven since I don't bother with ranked too much and Riven is one of the only champs I play if I have a say in the matter.

Effecient one trick ponies can one trick anything, just avoid games they can't play it, and get by on one a single rune page of tier 2 runes and still make diamond in 200 games. It's pretty cost effecient to OTP, you can ranked probably 20 games or so after hitting 30 with no money invested and minimum ranked requirements met by ip grind to 30.

I've been playing since S3 and I've been fine with just 2 rune pa.......

Ok, not gonna lie. I have all 20 unlocked lol. They normally have a pretty big rune page sale once a year

If someone is a one trick pony and doesn't need other champions, can't they afford rune pages?

Like for real. If I was a one trick I'd have like 5 different pages for OTP champion, 2 for ADC, 2 for Tank, and 2 for AP.
