If yasuo is hard to play or master, Why does he have the highest play rate with a 54% win rate

adidas··125 votes·9,401 views

Im legimately asking. No offence to any yas player or anything.

I mean you'd think a hard champion wouldnt have the highest play rate... You know? Just like being a doctor is more rare than being a nurse...

And even if thats fine having the highest play rate, why would he also have a 54% win rate :X.... Shouldnt the #1 played champ thats supposedly hard.... Have a lower win rate..?

He's not hard to play. He's hard to master. His skillfloor is practically non-existent. His skillceiling is fairly high.

The reason he's doing so well was because of his cancerous tank Yasuo build + the ultimate bug.

The reason he's played so often is because he's flashy, and people think abusing the low skillfloor without actually being good at Yasuo makes them good, by the nature of Yasuo's abilities all looking flashy.

yeah no. His skill floor is there. Its higher than a fair amount of champions.

His skillceiling is fairly high.

his skillfloor is considerably higher than most champions. So if you change those then i can agree with you

Wimbledofy47 votes

by going tank yasuo his skillfloor is basically removed.

THat's why it got nerfed duh

He's still pretty much the easiest non beggining (Annie, Warwick, Yi etc.) champion. The problem is that he doesn't fall off with higher elo, he's practically the same.

Eh I played yasuo a long time ago, his kit isn't that hard to pick up. It's a lot of clicking though.

"a long time ago"

Prolly when he was OP? It's not the same thing now, and yasuo never was easy. Otherwise if you checked OPgg's learning curves for yasuo they wouldn't be at 47 for first timers when yasuo was bugged.

Forgive me for not being clear, I consider a few months a long time. This account isnt even as old as season 4, picked up league relatively recently.

I played yasuo once awhile ago. I felt almost as bad as when i was playing reworked sion on first patch destroying everyone.

couldnt have explained it better

Agreed. People like him because he can make an impact just by spamming e. Confusing the piss out of someone in lane or a whole team in a team fight is a viable strategy and in yasou's kit he can do this with absolutely no skill by spamming e. And he has a refreshing (passive, so doesn't take skill either) shield. So basically his e and his passive are what make him easy to pick up and play.

The rest of his key takes skill and is viable in my opinion. I don't get mad when I get hit by the gust and ulted because it was my fault for not dodging it and in reality it was just him out playing me.

But when I get a headache watching him e around with no apparent strategy and can't kill him even though I can tell he is bad/new with yasou that's what makes his skill floor so incredibly high.

To sum it up, very few champions have the ability to make such a huge impact simply by point and clicking with low cool down. I always ban yas because I know that regardless of my opponent's skill level yasou will have an impact and to me that just seems broken.

Because his bruiser build completely deleted his risk/reward. Starting yasuos used to have 45% winrates that slowly got better. Then it changed. Then it got nerfed, hopefully he will be less powerful now

His tank build covers mistakes well. Playing yasuo as he was intended requires outplaying your oponent. The mallet build just lets you play stupidly

l Helios l21 votes

Several reasons:

  1. There was a bug last patch with his ult

  2. People are abusing a build that essentially covers the risk associated with Yasuo (I can do damage and survive because I'm tanky and I have high crit)

  3. There's a psychological aspect for those who hate Yasuo. When they see Yasuo, they're instantly tilted and start playing worse than they usually play. This is more my opinion, but it makes sense to me.

  4. People don't put forth effort in actually trying to play around his weaknesses rather than his strengths.

While this is indeed a thing I offer you a solution that works for me. Yasuo's hard counters counter him really bad. My go-to pick is Irelia, but there are some other who works as well. So if I happen to lane against him and have the luxury of counterpicking I pick Irelia and make his life a fckin hell. Once an enemy Yasuo rage-quited when being 0/6. The main thing was that his CS was the same as when he was 0/2. He died 4 times without taking a single CS - the moment I saw him in lane - I instantly killed him. And if one had asked: "is it worth to burn a flash/other spells to tower-dive a 0/5 player, who gives close to 0 gold and is not going to be relevant the whole game anyways" - the answer is "to make Yasuo's life miserable - hell YEAH it's worth!!!"

Keevalroy3 votes

I do everything I can to make them miserable when possible. Whenever I saw him going top, I go to Voli, run him down top lane like the filthy animal he is, bite his head off under the tier 2 turret, and after the fourth or fifth kill, bathe in the tears...delicious tears. And when I'm not zoning him out of farm, I make it my mission to target him in teamfights, flashing over three champions just to get to him and watch him frantically try to scramble away from me only to get his head bitten off again. If it wasn't still season 6, I'd almost be tempted to queue top...almost.

But as far as the solution thing goes, I'm ADC / Jungle primary, so I'm not laning against him much so I can't really counter him like that, and then even if I do, I'm still tilted from champ select regardless of the situation.

Please nerf Zoe1 votes

Damn bro,here..have my upvote

Probably the first person I saw on the boards not complaining about yasuo and actually giving REAL FACTS

He gives the opposite effect as champions like urgot/yorick gave,"well I meet a yorick once ever 500 games so why bother learning how to counter him" into "whatever, next game better hope I don't meet a yasuo,oh fuck not him again, meh, whatever let's hope again for the next game"

l Helios l2 votes

Yasuo is the typical QQ thread champion, along with Riven Zed LeeSin . People would rather complain than actually invest time in figuring out the problem and helping to solve it. This is the case with all 4 of these champions. Any thread that discusses these rarely offers solutions beyond 'nerf pls.'

All 4 of these champions have a psychological mindset associated with them that people ignore. All 4 can 'outplay' or win a trade based on the other players mistakes more easily than others can. Because of this, people instinctively approach any interaction with a subconscious dread of that and aren't mentally ready to deal with them. That tilted mindset is more broken than those champions could ever be.

Vayne is another one now that I think about it.

There's no decision making in his kit. Most manaless champions still have to make choices such as Rengar or Renekton. Yasuo may have some micro involved in his kit but it's pretty straight forward. Is my shield up? Is my tornado up? Is my ult up? If yes time to go in and either assassinate a squishy it deal decent aoe damage while ccing multiple people.

GULAG 4 U5 votes

Yes there is decision making on yasuo. (unless you're playing the tank builds). i suggest you to play him a bit.

First his tank build is the one with 54% win rate so I believe that's what we are talking about. I could be wrong.

Second for full assassin yasuo. Because to go in it not to go in isn't a meaningful champion distinct decision. I just don't see where he makes many meaningful champion specific decisions The only I can think of is how you charge your tornado.

Engaging, positioning, targeting, etc are game based that all champions make regardless of kit. Annie has a much simpler kit but similar play pattern. She charges up her stun/yasuos knock up. Then engages with that cc and her ult. At that point you either disengage and try to survive or try to dish out as much damage as possible.

GULAG 4 U2 votes

His tank build does have 54% winrate so yeah, Idk what is it atm.

Also I'd like to ask you a question, do you ever play yasuo?

Also for example, dashing to which minion? Will it place me in a bad position in which I cannot retreat? Should I ult or not? Windwall this ability or save it? EQ this person or that person?

Played a bit when he was newish. I believe the minion example is not decision making. That is micro there is a right and wrong way. Maybe I'm wrong but if there are five minions in lane and you want to accomplish something there is an optimal pathing.

Like I referenced with the renekton and Rengar they have to make a decision about what empowered ability to use. That decision is unique to that champion. Whether to go in or not as you are stating with yasuo is not champion specific. Alistar makes that same decision, do I engage? Do I flank? Do I peel etc. It's not kit unique.

If say for example with a full flow you could either get shielded, windwall, or knock up. At that point you are giving up some power for power somewhere else. That is where the term skill floor and ceiling mostly come from.

Again my opinion obviously nothing is really fact in these types of discussions.

GULAG 4 U2 votes

I see what you mean and yes, it does make sense. But really in the end it's a matter of opinion IMO.

Yaśuo Main4 votes

As a yasuo main with 100k points, time to correct

"windwall this ability or save it" you usually never have this in mind

"EQ this person or that person" you dont need to be a certain champ to think this, such as zeds "do I ult adc or support"

"should i ult or not" too basic knowledge, not viable

GULAG 4 U3 votes

Looked at your profile and with that loosing streak it seems like you're tilted. Good luck with that. (Offtopic)

1)Ww: It does matter actually. If your wall gets baited you're pretty much done with a jhin ults or something similar.

  1. You don't always get to reach the adc without getting cc'd so it is a decision making to take the risk of trying to reach the adc (if there are even minions around) or not.

  2. It can be basic knowledge, but sometimes even when things look like a perfect ult it's not always the best idea to go in.

Overall against crap players in bronze-silver yasuo doesn't take too much decision making (You need some but not intensive ones) against good players he does. It's somewhat why yasuo isn't P/B in lcs.

Spicy Rice4 votes

I'll be honest. Being good at yasuo doesn't mean that you think these things through.

Being good at him entails making these decisions unconsciously

GULAG 4 U3 votes

Yeah. average yasuos have to think, godsuos do it unconsciously thanks to experience.

It was cause of the bug on his ult. It gave him an extra auto on his ult that shouldnt have been there. I imagine the win rates will go down soon now that they fixed it

that and fervor increaseing his 'base' dps by ~75% later on.

And mallet is retardet on any champ with mobillity and high base dps, no way to ever get away, no way to out duel. The concept of item based perma slow is just wrong, and even the concept of kit based permaslow is very questionable.
