@Meddler: How hard would it be to emulate Cho'Gall's gameplay from Heroes of the Storm?

Cho'gall - Heroes of the Storm

Unlike many other pairing heroes (i.e. Kindred, Rakan and Xayah, etc.), Cho'Gall's gimmick is that two players are in control of the same body. League does not have this, and I have to suspect it may never happen due to the game's code, but I'd like to humor the idea for now.

So to ask Meddler (or whoever is head of Champion Design right now), how difficult would it be to get a Champion with Cho'Gall's Two-Headed gameplay into League?

EDIT: Just as a note, Cho'Gall can only be picked by premades, so there's no way to force him upon random teammates.

I imagine the reason why they don't do it, is because of how the match making system works.

Heroes of the Storm allowed you to lock in a hero before queing up for a match. The match maker would then balance the fight based on the champions it has available. So... it'd be rare for one team to end up with three supports without the other team also having three supports.

This also means that heroes like Cho'gal will be able to matched together without the player worrying about needing to find an additional player who owns the character.

League doesn't do that. You choose your champions the moment the game begins. Which means there's a high chance that the other 4 players do not own him.

But what about making the opposite available if someone wants to play him? It's not possible to guarantee that someone in the match would even want to play the LoL version of Cho'gal.

So... with that said... I don't see it happening without some serious thought from riot.

Cho'Gall is a duo queue specific character. You cannot even go into the matchmaking without being with someone who owns the other head. Likewise, it would be impossible for you to select them in champion select if you weren't in a duo and your partner also owned the other "part" of the champion. I think it's doable, but highly unlikely.

Honestly, I'd rather see something like Meepo from DotA or The Lost Vikings from Heroes of the Storm.

They've already stated multi-character control is extremely unsupported by the current engine League is run on. Maybe in the future, but I know this won't be happening soon.

This. Only premades can pick Cho'Gall, so randoms don't need to worry about one of their teammates forcing it upon them.

Not only is the tech not there, Riot would never do it.

While i think he is an interesting character, i believe there is an intrinsic problem with this design, at least in the context of league.

Chogull allows one player to force a pick on another. What happens if the other guy doesn't like the gameplay and the character?

Riot could always make it such that a "Cho'Gall" Champion can only be picked by premades. There, you don't screw over any randoms.

The issue needs a better engineered solution then that. A large majority of the player base is Solo queue. Why would you spend an entire dev-cycle plus the money that goes into it for a champion that can only be picked by a very small minority?

I don't know, Blizzard did it and Cho'Gall has his tiny playerbase of godly players with him. Guess they just felt like it was a fun experience worth investing in.

You don't understand.

Blizzard is able to do this because of how their match making and character selection system actually works. It's -significantly- different when compared to Leagues.

Riot -CAN'T- do it the same way that Blizzard does, because they will be spending a lot of resources for a champion that may never be fully used.

What they could do however, is treat that character like a vehicle. Where people are still allowed to choose who ever they please. But when it comes to being in game, one of the players can simply take the co-pilot seat dynamically.

Only premades can pick Cho'Gall together. You can't pick Cho and 'force' another player to pick Gall. It doesn't even let you queue up with only one of them selected.
