Where the hell is my damage? Better AP scaling for late game?

vlad is a lategame sustain tank. his damage spike is his early/mid game. if you had a major late game damage push then he would be a jack of all trades which is unbalanced. some tweaks here or there are prob needed but his lategame is remotely fine because with his sustain W and zhonyas he is almost* unkillable

Oxide hit this one on the head, the changes to Vlad in 6.20 were aimed at changing his dynamic in the late game IMO. If he was able to walk around and never die and deal lots of AOE damage it wouldn't necessarily be balanced. Instead, the trade off was sustained decent damage, while being very hard to kill.

Now they have reverted back in 6.20 to more damage but less safety.

It comes full circle.

Any champion that is being balanced due to professional play is probably reason enough to not invest time into making it your one trick pony solo queue

I wont agree that vlad is tank. He is Mage and should build AP. He got sustain but there are far tankier champions than Vlad. Tanks usually got extra defense stats

I remember when i used to score 10 - 20 kills on Vlad. Like Ryze it will take time to adapt but some how Vlad's lategame Damage feels lackluster. I think Vlad should be rewarded with more damage when he stacks AP

He overall feels quite squishy and less damage somehow

Q Base Magic Damage: 75 / 90 / 105 / 120 / 135 (+ 55% AP) Q Empowered Magic Damage: 150 / 180 / 210 / 240 / 270 (+ 110% AP)

Man look how low his base Q damage is. He already got his weaker early game. He should get higher AP Scaling like 80% AP on normal Q and 160% AP on Empowered Q While he might deal less flat damage early game stacking AP should result in higher damage

Not to mention he got problem farming minions.

I think its too tough on Vlad right now

His original design is a "mage tank"

As such riot will continue to embody that.

He was never designed to be an AP assassin that can kill somebody with a combo. He excels at lengthy trades and out sustaining his opponent.

Core components of his build will remain to be things like item 3065 to buff his most powerful attribute, his sustained healing and tanky team.

If his main attribute was damage, then it would be a different story.

Once again, not to sound like a broken record, but your objective in game as Vlad is not to solo kill your opponent in lane over and over again. Rather to item farm and aim to mid game team fight.

Vlad is actually great CS'er in lane and can shove the lane with very little trouble. While you shove the lane in your objective is to out trade your opponent by simply out sustaining them in the lane phase and punish them for their own aggression while you farm freely.

If you attempt to aggressively trade as Vlad you will get yourself in trouble.

Your outlook on the champion I believe is skewed towards dueling your opponent in a straight 1v1 trade. This was never the intention for Vlad.

If you instead punish them for their aggression you will eventually when the lane through sheer level and item advantage from pushing them out of lane.

Somehow i do have problems farming with new vlad. His kit suggest often trade and not so much about farming. There are tons of other champions that i got less problems with farming

2x Q, then harass opponents with Empowered Q. My personal observations tell me that most players actually try to harass and trade damage as much as possible and are way less focused on farming.

When I said "aggressively trade" I should have properly worded it as "aggressive all in"

You are correct in the fact that, you want to actively trade with your laning opponent to harass them, and punish them for over aggression by out sustaining them.
