Support Yorick Guide:

Hey, guys. Just sharing a really fun and legitimately powerful strategy as support Yorick Yorick. I just started getting into ranked for this season (I am a mostly norms guy) and have been playing support Yorick every game with around a 70% winrate. I won 3 out of 4 of my ranked matches today with this build/strategy, even carrying a Caitlynn last game who disconnected at the start of laning and complained of 300 ms ping for the entire game.

Edit: I ended up playing a bunch of ranked yesterday and won 10 out of 12 games all as Yorick support. I don't normally do quite that well, but I got a little bit lucky and this is a legitimately strong strategy. I went up about almost 2 divisions last night.

Alright, so here's a rundown on Support Yorick, starting with item build.

Item Build - Core: item 2303 item 3004 item 3512 Recommended: item 1321 item 1306 item 3742 item 3025 item 3065 Rarely: item 1305 item 3156 item 3110 item 3071 item 3102 item 3022 item 3748 item 3143 Example Completed Build: item 1321 item 2303 item 3042 item 3742 item 3512 item 3025 (ended with this actual build last game)

** Runes -** Quintessences: Flat AD or Flat Armor Marks: Flat AD or Flat Armor Seals: Health per level or Flat Armor Glyphs: 6x Scaling CDR (10% CDR at level 18) and 3x Scaling Magic Resistance

|

Masteries - I am still experimenting with masteries. You definitely want Meditation and Bandit from the utility tree, but the rest is up to your own discretion.

|

Pros/Tips -

  1. Ultimate allows you to clone (revenant) one of your carries for almost 75% more DPS
  2. Ultimate allows you to provide a 10 second temporary revive to a carry if they die while it is active
  3. Scales into a beefy frontline for your team (assassins/Leonas don't want to dive into melee [Omen of War] range)
  4. Omen of Famine (red ghoul) gives good self-sustain in laning
  5. Works well with item 3302 items
  6. Decent poke/trading during laning (primarily from Omen of Famine)
  7. Ghouls can tank monsters (helps with early dragons and leashing for your jungler)
  8. Can split push shockingly well (enemy team won't expect that from a support)
  9. Omen of Pestilence (green ghoul) can facecheck for your team to provide vision
  10. Ghouls can block some skill shots and can clear/detonate certain trap abilities (Omen of Pestilence is easiest to do this with)
  11. Omen of Pestilence's AOE slow can help peel/chase
  12. Many opponents have rarely faced Yorick and do not understand how to deal with him or what he does

|

Cons/Warnings -

  1. He's Melee
  2. Has shortish ability ranges
  3. Rather item reliant for a support
  4. Mana hungry (until you finish item 3070)
  5. Very immobile (until you upgrade boots and build item 3742 item 3512)
  6. Has no hard CC
  7. Many allies have rarely played with Yorick and do not understand how to work with him or what he does (allies commonly run/afk during the temporary revive)

Summary/Playstyle - Support Yorick works as a bouncer for your team, shoving his shovel down the throat of anyone who wants to get into close range of his carries. His strong front-line presence and temporary revive ultimate makes him thrive against diving assassins/fighters that are common in the current meta. Support Yorick feels like a combination of an extremely beefy Zilean and a more flexible, stronger utility support Trundle.

Because Yorick depends heavily on mana early on but has excellent early sustain (as long as he is not out of mana), I personally get item 3302 + item 1004 as my start and then back early so that I can finish a item 3070 before going into a regular support build pattern. In tougher lane matchups where that strategy isn't possible or if you don't trust your ADC to let you back early on, I recommend a item 3302 + item 2010x3 start instead. In either case, make sure to bring the Meditation mastery from the utility tree or Yorick will go OOM constantly in the early game. Managing mana early on is a must for any Yorick (less of a problem in the jungle, but this isn't a JG Yorick guide).

You should be able to survive any lane matchup, though some matchups will be more challenging than others. If you do well, you will scale better than most supports and become a powerhouse of your own by mid/lategame. If you do badly, don't panic. Your ultimate can still make a major impact for your team if you use it effectively, since it scales with your team's carries rather than your own items. Strategy is important in League, but it's even more important when you are Yorick. Keep track of objectives, predict your opponents' movements, and you will be able mold the game by forcing the enemy team to split up with item 3512 and then using your ultimate to secure a fight/objective for your team.

As with all rare picks, dealing with your own teammates' bias can be difficult. Whether you are succeeding or failing in laning, you will likely receive trash talk from your teammates who hate meta breaking and have never heard of support Yorick. Explain to your allies what Yorick does, but don't get caught up in an argument with them. Just keep your head in the game, go even in laning, scale up for lategame, and use your ultimate correctly. Once your teammates realize that your revive just let your carry pick up a quadra kill, the whining will likely stop or at very least lessen. One thing to keep in mind is that even though you need early mana (item 3070) as Yorick, you also still need to get that item 2049 as a support. If you delay your item 2049 too long, it's only going to brew resentment from your teammates who are already doubtful of having a Yorick on their team.

I hope you enjoyed the guide and learned something. I highly recommend trying Yorick support if you are looking for something amazingly fun and unique. A lot of people don't realize, but Yorick is an extremely flexible champion, functioning well in top, jungle, and support. If you enjoy juggernaut playstyles but prefer to offer team utility rather than having selfish power, then Yorick is absolutely perfect for you.

If you don't know much about Yorick and don't succeed immediately him, then don't fret. Yorick is a strategically complex champion with a very high learning curve (check out his steep win rate % by number of games played listed at http://champion.gg/champion/Yorick), so don't expect to do well with him right away. If you stick with him, his kit will start to make sense to you, and you will probably turn into a diehard Yorick main before you realize it. Lol![slayer-jinx-wink]

If you decide to give Yorick a try, make sure to come back to this thread and let me know how it worked for you. I love to hear about others experiences with Yorick and it would make me happy to see other players succeeding with his support role.

I like Yorick a lot. I think slow resist is a great utility on him as his q offers him a lot of movement speed. You can build him a lot of ways too. I build liandries on him and was quite useful. Suppprt jungle yorick: http://matchhistory.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/#match-details/NA1/2109078182/38492205

Me vs their Lee I did quite well. Also his early sustain in jungle means you can go full scaling runes and still survive w/o a problem. Just hope you don't get invaded because your squishy early.

Sweet. I love Yorick jungle. I played it a ton a couple seasons back. It got me to gold, which is saying a lot considering how few ranked games I do per season. ^^

im not sure its worth learning Yorick since he is getting a complete rework

He's been scheduled for a rework almost since he came out, there's probably a fair bit of time left before it actually hits live.
