What's the point of Malz getting a spell shield?

I would seriously like to know. He didn't need it before, why now? He still has good, if not better than before, wave clear. He isn't any more immobile than before. Is it supposed to make up for something that I'm missing? I find the free Morgana spell shield pretty lame tbh.

They gave it to him mostly to provide him some security for when he Nether Grasps an enemy champion. Nothing kills Malzahar's day more than getting killed just as you start your ultimate.

Shouldn't that just be a downside to his ult though? Or maybe just add a decreased damage taken percentage when he engages his ult? I dunno I just find the spell shield unnecessary and just a bit much. Basically walks around with a free Morg spell shield. I don't play mages much so I'm not sure how others play against him, but I find it annoying how I need to land a spell to break the shield then land it again to hopefully get off a combo.

I don't really have anything to say on it, though, if you want an endearing negative side effect of it, Malzahar as a Support is not particularly great against Alistar; even if you can't land the Headbutt+Pulverize combo, Malzahar makes it impossible to fail, thanks to being CC-immune for the Headbutt.

Before, Malz was a threat that you had to save some sort of CC for. Now he's a threat you have to constantly watch to pop his shield, or potentially save at least two spells- one to pop his shield and one to cc him off whoever he ulted.

It just makes him way, way too safe AND dangerous. I'm honestly baffled why he's allowed to continue having the shield.
