Why do people hate support Lux?
Not meant to be condescending, I just don't know if I'm missing out on a meme or that they genuinely have a bad reputation.

Her mana costs are a big part of it. When you have a DRing and get to CS it isn't as bad, but her E just drinks the mana bar dry.
"I have a shield that is a skillshot, therefore I am a support" the lux says as she KS's your ADC, doesn't build
, doesn't actually help the team beyond KS'ing them, and is probably just a bratty midlaner autofilled into support.
I made a whole thread on this too and of course the QQ came out.
Why do so many people hate the only role I ever play? I don't even play her mid, I've only ever supported with her because I struggle to CS vs an opponent. This thread makes me sad ;_;. I swear I'm a good little Lux support, I ward lots (both normal and pinks. I think Id actually be a feeder if I wasnt allowed to ward stuff. Wards are too useful) and I clear wards and I try to peel for my team and try to alert them of stuffs etc.
the fact you play lux support because you are too shit to play her mid is the reason lux supports tilt us, we get stuck with you cause you cant hold your own mid, so you botch our lane :D
Im going Lux 'Support'
Proceeds to
•Neglects to Build Sightstone
•Builds Mejais First
• Not Max W First
•Kill Secure Out of range of anyone possibly getting an assist besides Jhin(and BIG maybe on that too because 300 range deficit
There are much better options (unless both teams banned all supports{Highly Unlikely}) to choose from, so that basically the reason why.
We arent all like that :(
I build SS 100% of my games I never build Mejais, regardless if im ahead. Not sure why that even still exists since all the other stack items are gone. It's far too reactive now.
That being said;
With the shield changes in 6.6 maxing shield first is a really bad thing unless you're playing with a passive ADC, and even then the shield just gets outclassed by supports like janna and lulu. It really isn't reliable with how slow it travels now either.
As for the KS thing..hmm :I I mean I want my team to get kills. If I can get them a kill I'll do it, but why wouldn't I kill someone if I knew I could? And I'm not talking about actually stealing a kill. It isn't uncommon for me to get a kill by myself without any help from my team. Should I wait or potentially let them get away / live just to try to give my team a tiny amount of assist gold?
just mentioning a common trend sweety, dun take it personally. [slayer-jinx-catface]
Hmm lemme see
Yes I mentioned the same thing twice because that's how bad/toxic MOST Lux "support" players are anyways.
Skills are slow. There's basically no peel. She typically has to buy damage instead of early sightstone. Overall bring Karma or Sona instead.
Its just really bad and they always build full damage and no sightstone
Because those who go Support Lux are only doing so, because Mid was taken. So on average, they perform worse than actual Support Mains. Her utility now is definitely better than it was before, with the double stacking W, 45% slow on E and the double binding Q. Most who go Support with her, don't even use the W right either, plus she's all skill shot. Karma and Sona are just better.
Wrong sir! I've only ever played Lux as a support since the day she was released. I can't even mid. And you can't really say outright someone is better, because it really depends on the matchup.
The reasons why Lux support is often criticized:
or
early so with those two champions there is a risk jumping in on them even after they use their skills, with lux their isn't that same risk.I think the lack of her building sightstone is an unfounded criticism, most silver and bronze players barely build it anyways. Most don't even ward when they do build it. A support should average about 1 ward per every minute of game play and most bronze and silver supports do not even come close to that.
Lux support probably works pretty effectively all the way up until about Gold, by then she becomes a liability in the lane.
Before Zyra and Brand support there were Lux and Nidalee. They both went full AP and just went around killing people.
"A dead opponent is a cc'd opponent" was their moto.
But yeah. Because everyone wants to carry and noone wards people hated it.
well back then lux (and nid) support were indeed very bad
currently it's just subpar to velkoz, brand or zyra but tolerable
nid supp is still godawful though
Because she doesn't add much beyond the landing phase. She also doesn't do well with a budgeted gold income.
Sure it can work, but there are better options in the current meta
It's not that it's bad It's that the people that play it are nearly always complete hot garbage ######And don't even get me started on how 90% of them refuse to build Sightstone
She isn't the best support to take bot lane. There are other supports that can do better than her. All she can provide is poke and eh shields. Other than that, the only way you're gonna escape a jungle gank is by Lux zoning with E and/or landing Q, unless she misses. Imo, Karma and Sona can do a MUCH better job then her at support. (EDIT: Most support Luxs tend to go full ap with sightstone(maybe?).)

full ap with sightstone sounds as a good support build for lux though
Building according to the situation is better. It's really nice to have teams you can rely on to do dmg
there are some "damage" items that have enough utility to slot into a support role while still building damage.
Of course, but sometimes its more beneficial to the team to build something like locket, or now OP redemption etc, but those don't have damages. Having a fixed build is a really bad thing to do
Your only source of peel is an easy to miss skillshot and your damage isn't even that great aside from E because it's unreliable. Most people would rather you just play
at that point, because even if he misses his Q, his damage is just obscene and can turn the fight easily.
People don't like playing with a support lux because most of these kind of players are greedy/mad that they didn't get mid.
I don't like Lux Support because:
She's a champion who wants to beat the clock before she falls off.
Because of her greater item dependencies than most supports she needs to snowball, which isn't always feasible.
If the player is incompetent they'll neglect Sightstone.
Has limited ADC synergy.
If she misses skillshots Lux leaves her ADC more vulnerable than most supports who have targetted abilities. Also means that her ability to peel is poor because of weak consistency.
Everything she can bring is outclassed by
as a support, who does her job better, has superior utility scaling, and makes better use of the AP support items.
If people want to play Lux support, go for it. But they should understand why she isn't an optimal pick in most situations and how punishing the game can be to off-meta picks.
If you miss your q, you and your adc are both sitting ducks for a long time. Compare to Morgana, who can at least spell shield and peel with ult.
