Hard Reset vs Soft Reset

It is my understanding that a "Hard Reset" would effectively wipe out all MMR and everyone would be back to even footing.

A "Soft Reset" will keep your pre-season MMR and rank you similarly to where you ended depending on your win/loss in promos.

Hard Reset would group Challenger players with Bronze players in promos.

Soft Reset would group you with players of similar pre-season MMR.

Can it be explained why a Hard Reset is not going to happen?

It would seem that it would create much more of a challenge on both sides of the coin; Having to compete vs higher tier players; Having to compete with lower tier players.

The road to Challenger should be a "Challenge" and having all the high MMR players from the previous season simply place around the same level doesn't seem to promote that sort of thing.

FYI: I am not high MMR but I would love to try my hand vs high MMR players. It's the best way to improve.

Because then you'd have Challenger players fighting bronzes, which is literal torture at that point for the other side. Within a week or two (assuming people played enough to go where they had been, which would probably be around where they were last season) everything would be back to normal, except that anyone who played in the past week got either incredibly easy victories or their ass soundly beaten repeatedly.

Seeing as it's most likely you'll end up around the same spot as you did last time, it seems unneeded to make ranked hell for lower ranked people for a while before it goes back to the exact same system as it was.

that's like saying let's have a beginner karate guy versus a 3rd dan senior instructor. all you will get is your booty handed to you and a facefull of 'ezmode4me'

it is better to spar with your own level so you can both rise up together rather than getting your butt kicked and 'saying its going to help me improve' the only way you can improve is when that senior instructor picks you up and teaches you what you did wrong, a dream of solo q

@Vayne

You are comparing 1v1 to 5v5. Sure, the top tier player might just walk through the entire opposing team, however, it's likely that it won't be .vs. five B5 players if everyone were reset.

@Dusteon

What is the point of having an end of season then? Why not just roll through and call it League 2014, League 2015, etc. Most competitive games/sports such as Hockey, Football, Baseball, etc all start the new season at 0-0-0 record and individual player stats are all season by season, with a running total.

Does this mean solo queue is just an anomaly of the competitive gaming world?
