What is the point of the Promotion Series?

Okay, I completely understand why it's there for Ranking up from Bronze to Silver, Silver to Gold, Gold to Plat, etc.

But why is it there for Silver IV to Silver III? Being that if you have already done that promotion, Riot gives you a "freebie" to help you rank up to the next level of your current division, why not do away with it all together?

Example:

You're Silver II and you're at 94 LP in that ladder. You win your next game to bring you to well over 100LP, but instead, it just places you in Silver I with 0 LP. If you were to lose that game you'd lose LP as you normally would and remain in Silver II.

Currently it sits like this:

You're Silver II and you're at 94 LP in that ladder. You win your next game and enter promotion series. You win 2 more games and now you're at Silver I with 0LP. BUT if you lose that promotion series the LP is deducted and you end up somewhere between 50-70 LP in Silver II. What the fuck is that? It's like double punishment for losing your series, you're still stuck in Silver II AND you lose the LP.

Please consider the change mentioned above.

I truly don't believe Riot wants people to rank up. Higher ranked people play less, don't spend as much and have longer queues. They also won't tilt play as much as the majority of us do because "a troll ruined our game so we need to play again to make up for it".

its supposed to feel more exciting and give those games some additional stakes.

Its supposed to be a lot more rewarding to win a series rather than just win a single game.

Or at least thats what they say.

I agree, just have promotions between tiers. silver to gold gold to plat etc. I really hate teh bullshit series games between divisions.
