Let's make it clearer for those who don't understand the problem(s) with Riven

Yes she is counterable. Yes you can counterpick her. Yes you can also l2p.

BUT

BUT

What it takes to counter her requires so much more effort than the average champion. Think of all the resources you need to spare to shut down a late game Kalista. Yep. It's kinda unfair like that. Except you worry about Riven thruout all stages of the game.

The counterpick pool is small and limited. I know there's (not many) more but so far I can see Darius Garen and sometime Olaf being good candidates.

The stuff you have to manage when you "l2p" against her is ,again, so much more involved than facing other champs simply because she has a very loaded and forgiving kit (resourceless, low cd and mobility)

For most people, the fact that something can be countered means it must be balanced and not toxic.

Logical people know that something can be both "balanced" and toxic at the same time.

Simple fact is playing against a Riven is harder than playing as a Riven. Riven snowballs insanely fast, and if you die to her once in lane, you might as well marry your turret because youre going to be hugging it for the next 10-15 minutes.

On the other hand, in order to shut her down, you have to get a big item and level advantage, because she can still 100 to 0 you even when behind.

I've always wondered what itd be like to play against a riven and have to deal with her snowballyness but as i am a Garen main i dont really have that issue. I feel bad for those that do have that issue

It takes no more effort to beat a Riven than any other champion in the game. The only requirement is that you be better than the enemy player, its as simple as that.

Olaf's not actually a Riven counterpick.

lol reworks, amirite?

I hate the argument that you can use a dedicated lane bully to beat champion x top.

Yes, you can pick Darius and win your lane. You can't do anything else though.

Fiora is a hard counter, but it takes more finesse than the bruisers that can just outtank her.

Fiora outtrades her when properly played (e.g. ward the river and ensure the jungler is ganking mid or top before going in on her when she blows a Q or W to farm)

I like to play Renekton vs Riven, If she dosnt play super aggressive early, you can use your empowered W for easy damage and than Q and e away, if she plays aggressively, play passive and harrass when she has CD's, Imo renek dos good because he can sustain with Q an still pump out good damage with it and she cant, its not perfect but it helps.

I'll be honest, never understood the Riven QQ hate. She's squishy, and incredibly weak to poke, and she can be outplayed.

The biggest problem I can see with Riven is the difference between her skillcap and her skillfloor. A poor - average Riven player tends to be a pretty easy lane. A good Riven player is one of the scariest top laners in the game. There really isn't a way to change that.

You know, with the introduction of Righteous Glory...Darius is nothing to scoff at. You don't know fear until a RG'D fed Darius is chasing you down for that dunk. Oh, just CC him...yeah, that works on every champion (Except Irelia, lol). But, you better pray to the League Gods that he doesn't come from a flank...that's right. A flanking fed Darius. RIP your butthole. RIP your ELO.

Maokai is simple against her both for lane and teamfights assuming you have an adc that is above wood 5.
