Why is Morderkaiser So Underplayed?

Hey guys, it's been about a year since the Juggernaut Rework debuted. And Mordekaiser is rarely seen since they nerfed him after the rework. Last time I checked he is only picked 0.3% of the time and only has a win rate of about 49.9%. Why do you think he is so underplayed in LoL? What makes him inferior to other picks? What do you think can be changed to make him a healthy champion again?

I am pretty biased, but here goes nothing.

The reasons I see why people don't play him;

  1. No CC
  2. Immobile
  3. Only deals damage and healing
  4. Looks terrible
  5. Can be severly abused
  6. Binary
  7. SUPER GIMMICKY
  8. Team reliant
  9. Item reliant

The reasons I see why people don't play him:

  1. Tons of damage
  2. Delicious value in kit
  3. Strong early/mid/late
  4. Scary objective control
  5. Most badass champ in league no Q's asked
  6. Clutch Soraka level heals
  7. Oppressive passive
  8. Memes
  9. Pizza feet Honestly, the biggest reason I could see people NOT playing Morde is because of how gimmicky he is. As a matter of fact, I stopped playing him as much as I used to because of this.

You literally sit in lane, and pray the enemy is stupid enough to duel you early. Level 3 you can kill anyone. ANYONE (only if they are stupid). He is extremely reliant on Rylai's and an ally to cast his W. If he can't use his W, he gets melted in half a second without tank items and deals pitiful damage.

Sure Mordekaiser scales decent into lategame due to his high scalings and delicious value in his kit, but the lack of mobility, CC, and atrocious base stats just makes him a walking statue of gold (see M.M's gif) early game. The only chance you have once you catch the enemy junglers attention is either coordinating with your jungler to countergank and destroy the enemy (rare in low Elo from my experience, I am low Elo) or lose your ability to go super agro.

Max E first? Die from health costs and become weak to engage.

Max W first? Become completely reliant on landing your W heal/damage.

Max Q first? Your other abilities will be too weak.

TLDR; Mordekaiser is very, VERY gimmicky and honestly just a block of cheese. He also has EXTREMELY abusive flaws. It discourages me to play him more and more often. I only reccomend him in Bronze Freelo and Silver if you can play him right.

All Morde brings to his team is damage, and unlike a lot of champs he doesn't have the mobility to reliably deliver that damage. He relies on his team to CC or initiate for him, and relying on your team is the best way to frustrate yourself in League.

No mobility- easy to abuse in mid/high elo No utility- after being abused (see above) completely useless Late game is non existant- mid game champion that gets picked on early game. RIP

Despite Mordekaiser's insane damage on his Q mordekaiser is a melee champion with no mobility or really any form of innate CC. He is one of the easiest champions to camp and shutdown due. I'll hand it to you, he's a beast when he picks up Rylai's but he's very weak till then. I don't really understand how Riot could have ever believed that a playstyle like Morde's was ever healthy to begin with.

because his rework literally ruined him.

OurLestrade8/14/2016, 12:32:20 PM2 votes

Very clunky and unsatisfying to play for the most part. I certainly don't enjoy him now :O

Meep Man8/14/2016, 4:50:24 PM2 votes

Mordekaiser's "high moments" are a little unreliable to come by and his "low moments" come by all too easily to most players. I play him and know how to bring the metal, but a lot of people just don't know how to comprehend playing a champion with little mobility and absolutely no innate crowd control.

It might have to also do with his visuals. As proven before with Twitch, a champion's play rate can very well be entirely held back by how old they look and Mordekaiser still has his pizza feet and cape of stiffness.

Because he fucking sucks now and the rework was trash.

Mord had a small, but loyal playerbase. Most of them jumped ship when the rework hit live and even more left when he got gutted, as did everyone that picked him post-rework.

I am still salty at his absolutely random nerf that halved his ult's instant damage and moved it to the DoT

He's tanky and deals damage, but has weak level 1-4~5 and needs to max w in order to not kill himself. Also lack of cc and mobility and his kit shoves the lane hard is a real problem.

They ruined his lore, they ruined his theme, and they ruined his abilities. Then, unable to salvage the hot mess they'd created, decided to completely abandon him.

Mannysmoker8/14/2016, 12:35:24 PM1 votes

Aside from that metal guy on the forums, chances are no one spend time on that champion...

Malicious Metal8/14/2016, 2:34:25 PM1 votes

Because his success relies on his team being able to play into his strengths or the enemy playing kinda dumb.

And hell, I mained Morde to Diamond, he ain't THAT bad

DraygenBiscuit8/14/2016, 1:15:50 PM1 votes

If someone plays mord then the enemy team does everything in their power to prevent u from getting the dragon, putting your team at a disadvantage.
