How aggressive are you suppose to be with Caitlyn in lane?

I usually play late game ad carries because I tend to play passively in lane. So when I play Caitlyn everyone tells me that I should be more aggressive with her since she is a lane bully, but I tend to be to aggressive missing cs and dying from minions. How do you play Caitlyn perfectly in lane?

My Cait play is simple, last hit, anytime passive is up pop the enemy carry in the face. Wash Rinse Repeat. If you drop them below 1/4 with an AA follow with your Q. I've seen a lot of Caits spam their Q's till they OOM to harass. That's the supports job to harass and while it helps, it often leads to missed executes.

You should be as aggressive as you can be within safety. Don't try to AA the enemy knowing you are at a high risk of more damage being returned or putting yourself in positioned to be stunned or CC'ed

In other words, as much as the situation allows. Be aggressive if you know the enemy jungle is weak till lvl 6, ie: WW Try to AA when enemy ADC attempts to last hit. UseAA and Q in conjunction with one another.

If you play too passively with an aggressive champ, then you are missing out on her potential. However, playing too aggressively will lead to pushed lanes where you become easy prey for junglers and you lose out on creeps.

Try to strike a balance between both sides of the spectrum. Pay attention to your creep wave to see if there are minions to last-hit, but at the same time watch your opponent's movements and land a poke ONLY if it's feasible for you to do so.

In regards to minions, don't ever engage on someone when they have a majority of creeps against your side (unless you have some heavy engage support?), because you'll end up taking a lot of extra damage that'll make it easy for your opponent to turn the tables. That's pretty much with any champion, really.
