Why isn't thresh lethal hook interrupt-able by stun ?

RainbowIcee··2 votes·2,389 views

I mean If i bubble him with nami's bubble which by all accounts and purposes doesn't get you killed for landing it even though it's much harder to land the reward is abysmal in comparison to landing thresh hook however.. I throw my bubble and thresh starts the hook slightly before the bubble lands on him.. at this point while he's in the air stunned thresh is still throwing the hook... still throwing it... what in the world is this? what's worse is that the hook last long enough for him to be out of the bubble and pull towards his target ( my adc ) so i can't do jack shit to save my adc because he pressed Q and landed it.. I landed my Q where's my reward? none my adc died.. he's stunned for a longer period of time and then get's knocked up (interrupted ) and hit with a 90% slow. It is ridiculous how it's uninterruptable considering how incredibly strong it is. As it stands that hook outkits an entire champion what the shit? at least let me stop it.

Another note: If you're champion dies your projectile dissapears in mid air but thresh hook can still throw a hook while he's unconscious.

There are only two ways to interrupt a cast in LoL. The first is to cause the caster to lose vision of the target (which obviously happens only for targeted abilities). The other is to kill the caster.

Because the hook is a projectile. Once the projectile is in the air, there's nothing stopping it.

If the hook would disappear it would be like saying that if you throw a ball and then die, the ball disappears.

however nothing can stop it before it's in the air which is my argument. Thresh hook should be interruptable before it's thrown once he starts spinning it you can't do anything about it. Even if you have some really good timing with your stills to stun him while he spins the hook will still fly during the stun. He threw the hook inside the bubble ( what happened to me )

Now. 'Thresh hook should be interruptable before it's thrown.' You mean.. CC him?

'He threw the hook inside the bubble.' Wrong. You stated that the Death Sentence was cast before he was hit by your bubble. It's exactly like a Nid spear. You can't stop the projectile unless you're able to windwall it.

yes it was cast it has a cast animation it's not instant he spins the hook before throwing it during this spin it's what i argue that it should be interruptable i bubbled him and he started spinning right before the bubble hit him. as he was lifted up stunned inside the bubble the hook came out of it.

lose vision? uhmmm no... skills still work if you lose vision only one that doesn't is cait's ult as far as i know. Blitz can do a blind pull, lb can chain you w/o seeing you. If you use talon's ult while karma is tethering you, you will still get snared. Losing vision doesn't interrupt anything but cait's ult as far as i know.

Caitlyn's ult gives true vision of the target as soon as it is casted on the target, so you can't lose vision of it and break the channel (this wasn't always the case, the true vision was added not to long ago).

I don't know if he is 100% correct though. There are very few targeted spells with long cast animations.

Karlyr1 votes

Even Cait's ult can be interrupted this way. Cast time != Channel Time.

Cast time is the time that it takes to "take stance" on cait's ult. Most spells have them. This is why sometimes you see (for example) a Taric raise his hammer to cast a stun and then stop moving when a champion gets in the brush. His stun was casted but couldn't find the original target.

I'm aware. I was pointing out that Cait's ult can't be interrupted by her losing vision because it is now impossible for her to lose vision of the target she is ulting.

That's not true, all skillshot abilities proceed after death if they were sent out. This doesn't include charged abilities like Xerath Q or Velkoz Ult. I'm confused on the basis of this statement, can you name any projectile abilities that disappear immediately on death?

I don't mean to be rude but you just seem really salty about a losing matchup

I shot a rocket ( the auto attack ) with jinx as i died and it just vanished in the attack finished up the champion. I've had it happened in my favor aswell

Slythion1 votes

Auto attacks don't count as spells (although personally I think they should). That's why it's so strange to see 2 adc's kill eachother at the same time, because both their autos hit eachother before the server registered one of them as dead. This even works on minions, where if they die any following auto attack animations wont have an affect on you.

Edit: Autos are a tricky topic in general because you have things like Jinx Q that changes her autos and you have Spell Autos like GP and Ezzy Q that count as spells. Jinx Q still counts as autos while Ezzy and GP Q counts as a spell that applies auto attack effects (static shiv, grasp of the undying, sheen proc, etc).

After you play for awhile you begin recognizing the differences between auto-attack modifiers, the ranged auto modifiers are trickier than melee modifiers though

It's cause it's a windup or cast time which you can't interrupt sans killing the caster. Would you rather it cast instantly without giving any indication of where it might be going or that he's about to throw it?

RainbowIcee1 votes

you don't really get an indication to where it's going he spins it not aim it but that's not the argument.... and stuns interrupt a lot of champions abilities that have animation for example if thresh hooked me just as i'm about to ult with nami my ult cancels and goes on cd.

Chaotic Sage1 votes

Pretty sure if your ult goes on CD after a hook that's actually a bug and you should be reporting that. Otherwise there are multiple other abilities that you can stun champ and they'll still go off. Veigar's W for instance has an, albeit short, cast time. There's actually a pretty good, though rather dated, explanation on an old forum post, here http://forums.na.leagueoflegends.com/board/showthread.php?t=2848244.

There's a difference between cast time and ability animation.

If you interrupt a spell before it comes out (cast time; ie: nami winds up for her ult, nunu ult (although I think interrupting it just sets it off early), Xerath Q, etc) then it is canceled.

If you interrupt a caster but the spell has already been sent out, it will still do it's intended affects (Ahri Q+E, Nunu Q, Morgana Q, pretty much any projectile spell in the game)

That is not true. You can stun Lux while she is casting her ult and it will still go off.

You are also confusing cast animation and channels. Xerath's Q and Nunu's ult are both channels (unsure about Nami's R). Other channels would be Fiddle's R (when charging it up) and W for example. Channels can be interrupted by cc.

Slythion1 votes

Thank you for the clarification man My point still stands though (I think). I feel like Lux's ult isn't channeled but has a cast time and that's why it still occurs. I don't know every aspect of League though so I've probably made more mistakes in my posts. I'll admit, cast time spells and channel spells confuse me, as I've always though of an Aatrox Q as a cast time but I guess being able to interrupt it would make it channeled? Could you give more examples just to help me figure out the difference

1374342 votes

Lux's Q is not a channeled, it is a cast animation, same with Ez's R. They are among the longest in the game, along with Thresh's pull, so it is most obvious with them that CC doesn't effect the spell going off (with people frequently complaining her on the boards thinking it is a bug). Many (most?) spells have cast animations but they are often very short and not very obvious (they may just be moving their hand from right to left in 0.20 sec).

Aatrox's Q has a very short cast time but then he is just leaping in the air. Most dashes/jumps like Aatrox Q or Trist's jump can be interrupted in mid dash/jump by displacement abilities unless otherwise specified (e.g. Malph's ult).

Thanks a bunch man, knowing these differences can actually help a ton in games [slayer-pantheon-thumbs]
