I'm not asking this about me, I play at roughly Mid-High Gold, Low plat levels and after my Flex Queue games I got placed in Gold 3. Ok, that's cool and everything, no complaints. Except I have a Silver 4 friend who consistently plays at a Silver level, and I also have a Bronze 1 friend, (I didn't queue with them btw) Who also got placed in Gold after their placements. Is the MMR / seeding bugged atm?

Negative. This is not the case.
The reset starts everyone based on the same soft reset algorithm that is usually used. Unfortunately the matchmaking part of the system was bugged so pairings are really wonky. This causes strange MMR and LP gains and losses for placement matches. If your team has 1200 collective MMR and happens to beat a team of all diamonds (yes these pairings are happening regularly at the moment, all silvers vs all diamonds) with 2000 collective MMR that win is going to be a HUGE boost to your MMR. But the diamonds who beat the silvers? These players LOSE MMR for winning the match.
This is how a challenger player went 10-0 and placed in bronze 5. And its how a silver player went 5-5 and placed in platinum 3. Neither of those things should ever be possible under normal circumstances.
PoofAnton1 votesI was bronze 3 and I played against gold in them, I won 7/10 but I got bronze 4. Once they put flex back on I played another vs high silvers and I won, but I got bronze 5, so I deranked after beating people higher than me.
