Veteran Players in Intro/Beginner Bot Games
Why do people do this? What do they get out of it? I've joined up with my brother (currently level 6) in a few beginner bot games but spent most of the time typing, explaining what was going on and what he needed to do or buy. Every now and then I'd step in a bit more and help him or another player, but all the meanwhile there's always been at least one other higher level player trying to dominate the game by getting as many kills as possible. Showing off? I don't think anyone is actually impressed...
I guess it doesn't actually do any harm either. But, I remember how there was usually at least one non-beginner in every game back when I was still in my bot games learning phase just over a year ago. It was definitely a better, more valuable learning experience when it was actually a tough struggle against the bots rather than if anything a struggle to get in on the action and actually make some kind of difference. My brother agrees that it'd be better for him to play with other real beginners even if that means they might actually lose. Nobody seems to think of the 30-2 guy as a hero in the games. What's the point of it?
