Why was Gangplank nerfed so harshly without compensation?

Was he truly so strong? No mana refund on successful Parrrley's means his old mana issues return. His nerfed base health and defense stats means he's squishier than most melee fighters. Barrels have been repeatedly gutted, and his Remove Scurvy has lower base values(?) than before along with a lower AP ratio.

Trinity Force no longer gives AP, weakening his heal and ult. Same with Iceborn Gauntlet.

I get his re-release was a formidable force, but I think Riot's gone overboard with these nerfs. Anyone agree, disagree?

100% pick/ban rate worlds. Yes, he was "so strong".

He still kites, pokes, and farms like a monster, and when he does manage to get his barrels off they still really hurt. Plus the new Essence Reaver means he gets basically free 30% CDR now.

Yea it seems like a pretty harsh nerf to me for what Gangplank is capable of after all his previous nerfs. At least give him some strength somewhere else if his barrels have been deemed un fun. I want to be able to put up a fight later in the game if I have to be such a push over in the early and mid game. The armor pen on his barrels represents nearly all of his scaling with AD, there is not any other incentive to build AD in his kit other then his passive now, which while strong isnt really enough for him to keep up with other champions. He will still win some games just by ulting botlane over and over and having them carry him, which is the most unfun way to win a game of league of legends, but oh well ! QQ Sad Pirate

I think the nerf was very big, however he only benefited from the Pre-season changes (Excluding some issues with being a farm champ with Rift herald being a thing) and from my experience he is certainly not weak although i believe his win rate did drop (But it was high)

I thoroughly enjoyed Gangplank pre-rework, and didn't have the time to learn the new GP amidst the slew of other people playing him, bans, and school. Now that I've finally gotten around to him, I've found he's actually less that useless. Gangplank is a champion that requires lots of farm and the ability to reach late game, and he gets poked out so early with all these Thunderlord's Decree tops, the high damage duellists, and juggernauts up in top lane that he becomes useless.
