In a game where pokes and range dominate games, a champ like Udyr has no place. An all melee walker just can't keep up with coincidental and no-so coincidental poke comps. He can't do anything without giving gold unless he steals all the kills early and invests that gold in defense, and even that doesn't help because pokes will just shred him or otherwise disable him from the only option he has.
Getting Udyr on ARAM is the equivalent of snake eyes.

This is a problem with abuse of the system, IMO, not with ARAMs in and of themselves.
Same with Trundle or Sion.
Play full tank. So you can go all in and engage those kind of teams. Tanks are pretty op in ARAM.

Also, ARAM isn't truly "random". Ever seen a mirror match (even just one mirrored champion)?
I can't even count the amount of times I won an ARAM match with a mostly melee team against a high poke team because of TANKS.
Tanks win ARAM if you can manage to make the game last. Sure he doesn't offer much in comparison to other tanks, but can still do great.
Also, ARAM is all about random. There's a chance, although slight of both teams being entirely melee, it's happened before many times. Removing a champion from ARAM is possibly the worst idea I've ever seem. And more often than not you'll be able to reroll Udyr if you don't want him.
I handle Udyr on ARAM just fine. You're just doing it wrong
