Is it possible for GP to lose lane against Darius mid, if both players are equally skilled?

I'm asking because I play neither of them, so I have no idea how that match up is supposed to go.

GP has to be the better player to win It's Darius favored

Could you elaborate? Why is Darius favored in that match up?

Darius can freeze near his tower and GP can do absolutely nothing to change that.

Salron2 votes

GP can avoid that by not pushing the lane in the first place when Darius Q is going to be autopushing the lane

A well placed barrel combo will break a freeze.

You'll still lose out on farm because you'll repeatedly try to break the freeze.

GP basically cannot make a single mistake without seriously paying for it

If Darius pulls you, he will outtrade you and is guaranteed 4-5 passive stacks because of the slow on E + slow on W, and Gangplank has no escape to get out of that situation

Post 6 if he pulls you, you're probably going to have to flash because he will get 5 stacks and can kill you very easily

GP has to play the lane with surgical precision to avoid getting fucked early

Personally, i've never had an issue with the matchup, but it is extremely easy to lose as GP if you don't know exactly how much damage Darius will do to you

Darius has a slow on E? That's new to me. I never knew he had one. Seems a bit overkill since the W slow is already 99%(or something), and the E pull itself is dangerous enough.

Salron1 votes

Yeah it's a 40% slow for 1s

Yeah the slow on it doesn't really matter since you're not going to get out of range of the W (225 range) before the 90% slow hits you. The only reason it's there is for pulling multiple targets.

GP Can orange the pull though?

Catastrophic1 votes

Pull is knockup, if GP oranges a knockup, he is still immobilized, but can use flash to get away.

I'm a GP main, and dis man speak da true true.

A lane as GP against Darius is waay too complicated for me to explain in detail, but it can be summarized in this: If you get pulled by his E post level 6, you either use a summoner spell, or you die.

This lane is judged purely on how much Gangplank can keep up in CS. It is a really rough one against a good Darius.

I think in general GP has to have a lot more skill to make it even, but a great GP has a lot more than a great Darius. GP is a much better champion than Darius, Past diamond V i would vote GP, below i'd give it to darius.

Trick question.

Mids don't win a lane anymore, they AFK-farm and let the jungler win lane for them.

The sad thing is that I'm barely even joking with this...

Take jungle pressure out of the equation, just for the sake of argument.

Darius wins early on, but a good gp will just stay under his turret and use orange affectively so darius can't snowball

Darius effectively has full control over the lane since he can zone Gangplank away from the wave especially once he has phage. If Gangplank is pulled he will likely have to blow a summoner spell or die.

Is it possible for a well played GP to loose vs any melee that aint pant? If played well, he can farm up relatively savely while still impacteing the rest of the map with his ult, and his trades and harras are quite strong vs anyone that isn't a straight lanebully.

SpyKayle1 votes

If both are equally skilled? Darius will most likely win. You have to be a very good Gangplank to win against a Darius. This is coming from someone who mains darius and plays some Gangplank on the side. So it generally can go both ways but more so towards Darius.

The reason you don't see fighters mid lane (especially immobile ones) is because the lane is much shorter. I don't know much about this match up, but GP will have an easier time getting back to tower whenever Darius tries to trade with him than he would top lane.

Oriyoki1 votes

Decen GP wins most match ups anyways. If he can't 1v1, he will farm and gain more gold than enemy because of the passive. Not to mention global ult for kills/assists.

Escheton1 votes

Mid is more influenced by Junglers than toplane I feel. And seeing both can shred a wave or just take it safely and freeze it the flow of each game and ally/enemy positions would be the greater factor.

GayFluffyUnicorn2 votes

What? Nope. Toplane is free kill lane for any jungler if the enemy jungler is an autofilled bonobo.

Spoofghoul1 votes

depends on what equal skill means

if it is wood 6 then darius probably wins

anything above bronze 1 then gp should never lose, at worst you sit back and waveclear and still win because you can help allies while darius is stuck in lane

Isn't the better question "Is it possible for GP to lose lane after Sheen?"
