I personally think that some player's anecdotes about a given champion matters considerably less than their statistics. Individual games have so many confounding factors and to get a sensible sample size you'd need to OTP them for quite a while, and even then it'd just be for your elo.

Idk, playing assassins occasionally just reinforced my sentiments about them. So I would say it´s a double-edged sword.
I would also like to add that popularity is also a huge factor. When you see

in nearly every game it´s not surprising that these champs will draw more attention to them than champs that may be equally annoying but are only seen every blue moon or in a short period when the meta favors them.
