Stop complaining about mage CDR

dunkeroni··5 votes·571 views

I've noticed quite a few threads that are gaining traction recently that all center on the general feel of "ERMA GURD WHY CAN'T MY MAGE HAVE 1000+AP AND 40% CDR AT THE SAME TIME?? IT'S SO EASY FOR MARKSMEN TO GET IT!"

With the extreme amount of burst that mages have, it's only natural that you would have to sacrifice 40 AP or so to get 20% more CDR. Riot is trying to add more mechanical intensity to basic-attack champions by giving them CDR. It doesn't mean mages are suddenly weaker. Pre-season is always like this. They'll fix it later, but the solution is not to 'add +30% cdr items', 'remove cdr from essence reaver', or 'add cdr to all other mage items'.

Stop trying to get noticed by jumping on the "mages need more cdr" bandwagon. [slayer-jinx-wink]

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is what we call a strawman argument.

It doesn't mean mages are suddenly weaker.

Losing out on 5% CDR from Masteries and 5% from a possible set of boots is actually getting weaker.

You can still get 5% CDR and +5% max CDR through the cunning tree. Again, it's just a tradeoff of the keystone mastery that you want: You can't get the CDR mastery if you go full AP damage with Deathfire Touch.

If people go for the 5% max CDR, then they lose out on all magic pen. Again. Weaker.

The only CDR problem exists for manaless mages because mana-using mages can just build Athene's and Morellonomicon and cap themselves out. And trust me, Katarina doesn't need more access to CDR.

the fact that those two items are your best bet to get max CDR is the main reason of why mages are screwed in the CDR department. You can very easily make a new CDR item with some mana component if manaless mages are indeed the issue. You building both those items just to get max CDR puts you so far behind and weak to the point that it's not even worth it since you don't even need that much mana regen on your build

"more mechanical complexity"

on what? the mostly point-and-click spells that AD casters have? Lucian MissFortune MissFortune Twitch

"why can't I have 1000 AP and 40% CDR" - idk why do ADCs get to sit on a shitload of crit while capping their CDR if APs can't do the same for their damage

well.

then why can adc have 40% cdr with a full carry build?

i mean first of all, youre assuming for some reason that marksmen dont have burst built into their kits, when a large part of the class has at least 1 burst ability available (funny that youre using jinx picture as a signature. apparantly her ult doesnt count as burst to you for some reason).

second, the auto attacks of an adc easily deal the same amount of damage, as a burst rotation of a mage by lategame. if youre dealing 1.2k crits on 90% of your auto attacks i wouldnt really complain about those 1k´bursts of mages.

giving adc cdr for free doesnt make them more mechanically intensitive, it just makes them straight up stronger. they dont get any harder to play.

I think the problem is that cooldowns are given too freely on essence reaver. you sacrifice the 50% extra damage from the alternative, in order to gain 30% cooldown reduction...

and the 50% extra damage is those 50% of attacks that actually do crit.

so you sacrifice 25% damage for 30% damage, seems like a fair trade-off.. to also get a good mana sustain for free.

or you build both items.

item 3031 item 3508

there. 30% cdr. ok, what did you actually sacrifice now? nothing.

All that needs to happen is a 5% CDR raise on all ap items and it would be fine

Either that or add 5% CDR to the sorcery masteries

I understand completely, Marksmen being able to 3 shot anything isnt enough anymore, they also need to be able to out-cast anyone too cuz Marksmen need to be best, they almost fell out of the meta but now there is no fear of that happening thanks to the CDR... thank god them OP mages can't have any...

Yea whats the difference between being able to 3 shot someone with spells and 3 shotting them with AA's? I will tell you, there is really no counter to AA's other than being out of range (something that also applies to spells) and building resistances (something that also applies to spells) whereas there are counters to spells such as Spellshields, dodging them if they are skillshots, blocking them, or being out of range in the first place. AA's cost nothing, you literally just click on the map and automatically start AAing everything whereas spells require timing, aim, and skill (well most of them do...) plus they cost mana (or energy i guess but might as well be resourceless...). Spells have cool downs and AA's do not. So why should Caster Marksmen get more CDR than Caster Mages? Caster Marksmen benefit from both spells and AA's whereas most Caster Mages rely almost entirely on their spells, they normally do not benefit much from their AA's other than to deal a small amount of extra damage.
