Syndra Passive Suggestions
So, by my understanding, it was stated by a red that they wanna make Syndra's passive more engaging. Well, as an avid Syndra player, I have a few suggestions that could help thematically bring more interesting mechanics to her passive to make it more "engaging".
First off let us define what Syndra's theme is to help us brainstorm more. Personally, I see Syndra as a power hungry mage who wields the power of this dark magic to onslaught enemies. Her line when you pick her is "so much untapped power". One of her lines in game is "people fear what they cannot understand" as well as "more, I can be so much more". All in all, I get a sense that Syndra has this insane knowledge of her power and seeks to grow that power, kinda like Anakin Skywalker. Her background and lore tells us that she was very reckless with her power and the Ionian village elders were afraid of her immense power as well as her recklessness. Therefore, in order to get a passive that fits her thematically and becomes more engaging, I decided to develop a passive idea that revolves around "untapping" this immense power as she levels up each ability.
Currently her passive is very bland and linear. You get a bonus when you max a skill; Q increases damage against champions, W increases the slow duration, E increases the width of the spell, and Ult gains some range. To me, I would like to see a passive where each ability gets stronger and more useful as you "untap" and discover more about the ability as you use it succesfully. Parts of my idea are stemmed from other passives like Cassiopeia and Viktor. Cass' passive (kinda rhymes) gives you benefits and bonuses as you land Q's, increasing your ability power by a massive amount as your final result. Viktor buys an item and unlocks a hidden bonus for each ability as he "upgrades".
So, here is an idea; Each succesful Q on an enemy champion gives you a stack towards your passive. At lets say for example, 25 stacks, you gain more knowledge allowing you to tap into the power of an ability. Similar to choosing Viktor udgrade, or Kha evolution, you choose a skill to gain more power in.
Possible powers to upgrade: Q- Thematically to fit in with Syndra's thirst to onslaught enemies with the control of her power, landing a Q on an enemy champion reduces the CD of her abilities by 1 second (again all numbers are just examples). This will allow her to continue to onslaught with Q's slowly reducing her other CD's. In extended fights, her power to control Q's will allow multiple uses of other abilities to gain complete control of a fight.
W- One of her attack lines is "run, playthings". So, by slowing an enemy by throwing her sphere or another minion shows that she can manipulate and control her power extensively. Landing a W on an enemy champion increases the damage of your next dark sphere by X% within 2 seconds.
E- In her lore, Syndra's mentor tried to restrain Syndra's power as the Ionians thought she was getting out of hand. Overcome by emotions, she slammed her mentor against the wall using her power. This directly correlates with her E ability. The lore also tells us, that with her mentor dead from the impact, she felt this biggest rush of her unbound potential. She had gained freedom. Key words, freedom, rush, unbound. Untapping her E ability would then read; Each enemy champion hit with E increases Syndra's movement speed by X% and gives a flat amount of tenacity.
R- "Such Power!" One of my favorite abilities in the game is Syndra's ult. You literally just toss your spheres dealing massive single target damage to someone. Untapping her ultimate ability will shred a flat amount of magic resist per sphere stacking as it hits the enemy champion. This will mean that each sphere will do more damage, and if used in conjuction with more spheres gives more reward. Also, it deals with tanks a little better, and considering the juggernaut meta, it would be super handy to have this.
There are my suggestions. Obviously there will have to be quite a bit of number tweaking and adjustments, so that Syndra doesn't become overpowered. I would love to hear other ideas, I play Syndra a lot, and as much fun as she is, her passive is just, meh.
I also drew a sick picture of Justicar Syndra, but I am not sure how to put it in the post, so whatever.
