We need more tools for coordination

It would be great to add more smart pings ("I'm dead, don't try to save me", "I'm not strong enough to fight so don't gank please", "I think they're stacking in this bush"), but here are some other ideas that I think would improve team play:

  • Give each player a hotkey that, when hit, causes a small number countdown (5..4..3..2...1.) over their head, to be used by the jungler or laner to time going in on a gank or initiating a teamfight.

  • Let players, especially the jungler, draw lines on the minimap so that teamates can see the route they plan to take to gank, or to farm the jungle, or to invade the enemy

  • Let players place markers on the minimap so that people can see where they think or know an enemy ward is (different colors for think/know, green or pink, and the markers vanish if the a ward in the marked area is destroyed or 3 minutes passes for a green ward), or where they recently saw the enemy jungler (disappearing after 5-10 seconds), or where they saw an enemy trap of some kind placed (yordle snap trap, jack in the box, teemo shroom, etc.)

What do you guys think? Do you have other ideas of interface improvements that could be done to help with coordinating a team of strangers who aren't on voice chat?

Bump.

Think about how much easier it would be to organize ganks and such with map drawings and markers for possible ward/trap locations. That alone could drastically improve solo queue.

What in the mother of ass one would need a ping that says I'm not strong enough to fight so don't gank please", "I think they're stacking in this bush"

lolll

You can't honestly tell me you have never been in a situation where your jungler is coming and you know that you'll just die if you try to fight right now so you ping him but he doesn't listen or gets the wrong idea? Or a situation where you want to warn your teammates that you saw at least one or two go into a specific bush but if you just pinged it they might get the wrong idea and go in to the bush and die?

Anyways, those were just possible examples and not even close to the point of the thread, which would be the ally shared minimap marking and the timer for coordinating when to go in.

Of course, but you can use the standard pings. Honestly there should be just a division like: "RETREAT, GTFO OF THERE" and "WATCH OUT, MIGHT BE DANGER" or something like that

the pings are fine; more will just complicate things

I agree that we need a larger amount of quick and clear communication methods. Whether that means more pings, the ability to draw routes on the minimap, or something else entirely, I don't know. More pings would be a good start, though.

You can do all the improvements you can on communication systems, and to be positive in game, but the truth is that people need to start using the report and reward systems properlu to kick out of the game the noobs/idiots that are ruining other people game, even if they are not that excessive toxic

By the way, ping system could work far better with more options, I agree, but I'm not sure too many options are necessarily good, give too many actions to do could be counterproductive, i would probably only add to the ping system the option "this bush is warded" ping

At the very least "this is warded", "theres a trap in there", and "I think there are enemies here" type pings would be nice.

Yeah, it would

Don't get me wrong, but main problem are people, and there is little you can do system wise, if not increase the tolls for the willing players and hope they can use it well

what about like voice chat? that would solve all these issues

Voice chat can be awkward and uncomfortable for many people. It is also unavailable to people who don't have mics or play in places where talking is frowned upon or where it's noisy (this is common on a college campus). Additionally it creates a new way for people to be toxic to each other that is much more resource intensive to monitor than chat.

Ideally, interface options such as additional smart pings or minimap drawings would provide more opportunities for coordination among all players that is not a magnet for toxicity the way voice chat would be.
