How hard is it to leash for your jungler?

it be lìke that··15 votes·1,550 views

It should be reportable, if you are going to flame me for being behind and far less impactful, hmm idk...give me a leash instead of ignoring my pings and sitting lane anxiously awaiting the 2 auto headstart.

just for some insight.

If the trist leashed, I didnt need to pot my first camp. If i didnt need to pot my first camp, i dont need to force in an aggressive river crab clear. I dont get killed for overextending out of my jungle on a champion i do not want to fight on before i have an item or two. i dont fall behind so heavily and get counterjungled all game.

I can do so much more and be worlds more effective in ganks/pressure if you take 5 seconds to auto that camp 3 times. thats all it takes from you. Guess what? then, when you get your butt handed to you in lane, i can come down and perhaps do something about it.

Why is the concept of the leash so hard for people to understand? Bronze/leveling yeah i get it.

Silver 2 -4 I don't. you should know how important it is.

i have actually been told "no go start top at red" while playing Amumu

i have been told "no go start bot" as Riven

its beyond frustrating.

This will go on all the way up to diamond youll get players who dont leash. You will also get ganks where your laner afks when you gank and then rages at you when he loses lane. You will get games where all 3 laners will afk whenever you try to make a play. Especially at low gold/low diamond. Low diamond is where all the boosted DQ players are and low gold is where all the boosted bronze players are who just wants the skin at the end of the season. You will also get your invaded on by enemy laners while yours afk. No one cares about the jungler and if you fail when your laners fucked everything up for you they will rage at you. Mute people and ignore them is the only thing you can do. They will never change

climbing sure sounds fun..like most games ive played, i figured ranked got better the higher you climbed. Seems to not be the case. (this is my first season of league)

Wolf Queen2 votes

Not really. Especially since Dynamic queue came out. Your laners arent your team. Everyone says its a team game..it is but not in solo queue. Solo queue think of it as 1v9 cause thats what it is. Keep that mindset till high plat/high diamond and youll climb easier.

fun game. FeelsBadMan

i did notice this however, when i went from an 83% winnrate with zac (before he was massively fotm) to now probably around 45%

eve was a 75% winrate down to about 35%

i tended to let carries get the kills and id back off towers that were low for them. i started to notice this lost me more games than it won.

Wolf Queen1 votes

Dont ever just give away gold. If you know the person and know hes good with it then sure give the carry gold. If not always take it if possible. Ive ganked lanes and gotten them so far ahead hed have to be a moron to lose it, what do you know he lost it. I wouldnt recommend zac he has very low damage. He has great CC and is a great tank sure, but that makes you rely on your team to do the damage for you and to follow up with your engages. That doesnt happen very often. Ive seen silver games where the enemy had 1 bot and 1 top and we could 5v3 them easily. At that moment when the enemy only has 3 mid 80% of the time in silver your team will randomly walk off or recall. Play junglers that can do damage well enough to carry without your team, a jg that can engage, cause if you play something like kha'zix no matter how fed you get you still rely on your team to engage at the proper time. Vi and noct fit that role. So does shyv.

Benesmash1 votes

Huh... no wonder I win 70% of my games as vi. I am ALWAYS carrying as vi. I still lose, yeah, but only when my team gives up because they have a small lead. "FF, they have one more tower than us. it's over"

Wolf Queen1 votes

Also eve is a pretty good jg low elo since most people dont even know what a regular ward is in low elo, but a pink ward? Hell thats like breaking news stuff they aint ever heard of that. Just know youll have to put a lot of pressure out early cause later in the game eve is just a suicide bot.

btw ive totally noticed this boosting, i had some guy on my friends list from leveling, he was horrible. he was placed at bronze 5.

he fed every game, had bad cs, yet they still won nearly every game.

he is now higher rank than me, he queues every game with some midlaner who just super hard carries every game. shame people like him are hitting gold.

Wolf Queen2 votes

Yep and its a shame people like me have to deal with those people in my games. Really dont like how i work hard to gain rank and other people just get it handed to them and then if i do go higher rank i have to deal with those same bad people cause their friends boost them up. If your bronze you have to deal with bad bronze players, if your diamond you have to deal with bad bronze players who just happened to be boosted by smurf friends

While I do agree that laners should leash, I do not believe it is as big a deal as you are making it to be. This is due to a few main points.

[1] Sometimes your top-laner cannot afford to leash.

While this is less of an issue since double-jungling is no longer standard (and or a viable stategy at all), many laners needed to be in lane before the minions even met to shove the wave under the enemy tower and deny their opponent experience (and to get a free base).

Sometimes, the top laner will need to shove the minion wave under the enemy tower immediately unless they want to be crushed in lane (either due to levels or playstyles). One example of this would be Singed: he needs to either start proxying the first wave or shove it under tower immediately (even missing CS) and proxy in many matchups or he will be crushed.

[2] You should be able to clear without a leash.

While you won't be quite as healthy, you should be able to perform a leashless clear of at least three camps on any jungler you play. If you can't clear at least three camps without a leash, then it is quite possible that you either need to adjust your setup (runes, masteries, starting items) or you shouldn't be jungling with that champion in the first place.

[3] Junglers have to be flexible.

In many cases, junglers may have to start from an unfavourable position due to circumstances of the game.

  • A level 1 fight may occur and your allies may have to rush to lane or base
  • You may have to start away from your preferred side of the jungle for strategic reasons (i.e. start top lane to gank bot early, starting on the opposite side of the jungle to avoid an invade)
  • The enemy jungler or support may invade you on your first couple camps (either stealing it, delaying you or chunking you down)

Stuff happens in games and sometimes you just have to deal with it.

Also, slightly unrelated but a useful side-note. Amumu is perfectly capable of beginning on red-side and doesn't run into any issues when clearing. Amumu isn't really mana-reliant for clearing with Hunter's Talisman and Hunter's Potion if you aren't spamming your Q on camps.

Attack Speed marks speed up your clear and make strengthen Krug buff while W provides great damage for low mana consumption.

You can easily clear Krugs, Red Buff, Raptors, Wolves and Blue Buff with W and Talisman without issue.

majority of these points are situational at best or moot.

it is so important to full clear before your first back, and in majority of cases, it's adcs refusing to leash. i find it strange you say leashing isn't a very big deal, but that also massively depends on who you are playing.

There is 0 chance you are going to clear all 6 minions (without missing more than half of them) in the time it takes the enemy to auto the camp 3 times for their jungler.

Im guessing you have never played amumu, because he relies heavily on his w for his clear, which is very mana intensive. (on top of e spam to keep damage reduction up) also "hunter potion" implies im backing before a full clear, with as amumu would be a huge disadvantage, since he can help get kills easily early. why would you put yourself behind?

It takes seconds of the laners time to leash that camp, i take plenty more time out of my farm phase to gank for you, so does that apply to this argument?

"stuff happens in the game you have to deal with" ? Like what? you are sitting under your turret waiting for minions. an adc can leash and be on the way to lane before a single minion is auto'd more than once.

ESPECIALLY if the risk of counterjungling is there, why on earth is it a good idea to back? you then lose camps and you wont hit 6 roughly the same time. leashing shouldnt be optional, its mandatory for a good chunk of champions for a healthy clear speed.

im shaco or nidalee, feel free to not leash.

There is 0 chance you are going to clear all 6 minions (without missing more than half of them) in the time it takes the enemy to auto the camp 3 times for their jungler.

You won't get the minion wave directly underneath the tower before they arrive, but you will get the minions low enough that your opponent (1) can't contest your push and (2) the first wave will hit tower before the second wave reaches it.

This is very important on many champions to both reset the wave, set up an early freeze in a favourable position, or to proxy farm between towers.

Im guessing you have never played amumu, because he relies heavily on his w for his clear, which is very mana intensive. (on top of e spam to keep damage reduction up)

I have played Amumu quite a bit in the past and I've picked him up again recently. His first clear isn't that bad and his W isn't that expensive for mana. Provided you don't use Q, you can easily do a full clear from red-side.

also "hunter potion" implies im backing before a full clear, with as amumu would be a huge disadvantage, since he can help get kills easily early.

The Hunter's Potion was mentioned for subsequent clears. While he doesn't necessarily need it, it greatly reduces his dependency on Blue Buff and keeps his health topped-off for subsequent clears.

"stuff happens in the game you have to deal with" ? Like what? you are sitting under your turret waiting for minions. an adc can leash and be on the way to lane before a single minion is auto'd more than once.

When I mentioned this, I provided several examples.

Level one fights can occur and run late. If both teams are still fighting or just finishing by the point monsters spawn, you aren't getting a leash since your laners will lose too much experience from the minions killing one another.

You can be invaded. The enemy jungler or support may steal and early camp and/or kill you early, so you will have to adjust your playstyle to deal with it.

I have played jungle for multiple seasons. It is by far my most experienced role and the one I enjoy playing the most.

When I decide to pick up a jungler, the very first thing I do is test their initial clear in a custom game without a leash. If I can't successfully clear at minimum three camps, then I adjust my runes and masteries until I can do so.

You can't always depend on having a leash. Circumstances beyond your control may mean you don't get one. While it can suck, it can and will happen.

If you don't know how to handle it, then that is a fault in your knowledge which you must fix.

so your overall point is, your teammates wont do what in 90% of situations they should and its up to you to not only pick up that slack but also keep yourself ahead of the enemy jungler?

k. cool.

EndlessSorcerer1 votes

You can't control your teammates.

If you can't adapt to different situations or know how to play when they occur, then you must learn to.

They will happen whether you want it or no.

GayFluffyUnicorn1 votes

Boohooo poor junglers and supps are the only ones in this game who understand league of legends and have to deal with stupid laners :'(

Wolf Queen1 votes

If the enemy support is invading you that is completely on your support. If an enemy support invades my jg the bot lane dam well better be getting a kill or a tower or something down there or my support better be behind me helping me

EndlessSorcerer1 votes

If you want an example of what I am referring to, imagine Blitzcrank or Karma attempting to steal your Krugs or Gromp at level 1. They will be on the opposite side of the wall (out of vision) and will use their Q on the camp when it gets low (or they think it is).

When this occurs, your bottom lane has just stopped leashing and are just barely getting into their lane. At that point, there is nothing your bottom lane can do aside from trying to cut off the support when they return to lane (which won't always work and won't help you anyways).

I tend to save Smite to execute the first camp so it rarely affects me, but it does happen.

JayHog19922 votes

I'm fine with helping junglers with a great leash, just remember this:

IF YOU FUCKING SMITE TOO EARLY AND MAKE ME ACCIDENTALLY KS YOUR GROMP/KRUG, YOU DESERVE THE PAINFULLY SLOW CLEARS THAT HAPPEN NEXT!

Either smite off the bat or time it for the smite to FINISH OFF the jungle creep! Not rocket science!

Basically had like 2-3 junglers who went nuts because of that.

it be lìke that1 votes

this happened to me one time. however the context imo makes it massively the adcs fault.

i smited gromp, it landed on like 3 hp. the adc who was walking away (i had auto'd twice then smited) turns around and autos 1 last time from the bush and blames me. if you walk away from the leash just fuckin walk away lol

JayHog19923 votes

Sometimes when I take gromp, I offer to leash blue as compensation.

So I don't be seen as an asshole.

Shadow Hazard1 votes

This happened to me once when I jungled, it is greatly appreciated when you help make up for a mistake like that, and depending on the strength of the lvl 2 you may get a super early gank from me to help with the likely shoved in wave.

JayHog19921 votes

If it's from bot lane, the adc just has to gain free levels while the support falls behind.

EndlessSorcerer2 votes

During one Amumu game, I accidently smited at 392 HP after Darius leashed Gromp for me and his passive stole it.

Thankfully, I started W (so I could easily kill Wolves for level 2 and resume clearing) and Darius stomped his lane opponent with the early level 2.

It all worked out in the end.

JayHog19921 votes

I once had a gromp stolen while I was graves.

Of course back then Graves jungle was Op, so I just went "That's ok, I'll just get another camp." Rest of the clears were fine.

I think I still have a video of that happening in my channel if I recall, was during the terrible loss because half the time, the game froze.

Same if you are playing someone with a passive like Teemo, Brand, or Twitch where our passive slowly ticks it down and you don't smite it. I will play Twitch and tell the jungler to smite late and then they randomly lose it to me while I'm walking to lane. I'M IN LANE. I didn't steal it; you didn't last hit properly.

From the red side perspective. I'll leash golems, but if you start red I won't, we lose the entire first wave if I do.

From the blue perspective, I don't care where you start.

Overall lead with your smite or I'm taking your camp.

my favorite thing about the forums is where someone disagrees with you and instead of saying why downvotes everything you have said regardless of what it is.

As long as I'm not being asked to invade when the enemy top laner has ignite, yeah, you can guarantee I'll leash if you want on top side.

it just blows my mind.

you want your jungle to be off to a good start right? you want them to hit 6 before the enemy jungler/bot lane right? you want them to snowball someone as soon as possible right?

so effing leeeeeeeaaaaaaaash!

then when you are behind, you are the reason you are losing.

I always ask for no leash as when they take xp it hurts more than the extra damage I'd take.

it be lìke that1 votes

depends on who you are. only person id say no to a leash on is Shaco and smite kinda stops that.

if it stops you from full clearing effectively and fast, its a big disadvantage.

I play jungles like yi, tryndamere, Jax, xin, malzahar, and aatrox. Tryndamere can be a little risky if you get unlucky with crits, but generally he's fine.

If they don't leash I just go straight to golems, then red buff and execute a half dozen times. Then comes the /all report this <whatever I'm playing>

its honestly sad, when i get a team where 2/3 lanes win, or there is a sliver of teamwork, its like an overwhelming sensation of Kreygasm.

Pretty hard man. I go leash and monster 1 shot me. I be in lvl 50 zone at lvl 20 you can't do this to me pls.

DauthiSlayer1 votes

True story.... I rarely get leashes when I jungle. I tend to play champs that need little help in that regard. Sometimes, it is cause I am starting in their jungle. Other times not, generally I do not want to give up where I started, so if my bot lanes shows up allittle late to lane without experience as well as full health, chances are the jungler started there. I do get angry when my team will not scout out potential invades, in case I get spotted out in "their" jungle and I happen to blunder into the enemy team when I go for a standard jungle start instead. Most people on my team just go to lane and sit there oblivous the game has started. Mid laners I am looking at you when I catch, or another team member, someone out too far on a jungler, ashe, braum, alistar, or whatever people be playing that game. Even more funny when a blitzcrank yanks them from under our tower and kill them right away without them even knowing they died. Or show up 30 seconds or so after the fountain unlocks.

NotCounter1 votes

it's really hard... you have to right click to walk there and then wait til the camp spawns and right click the camp a few times, then right click AGAIN to get to lane

that's like at least 4 right clicks right there

Supreme Senpai691 votes

You can auto 4 times and still not miss a single minion. There is no excuse not to leash unless you're singed.

Just Blame Jenny1 votes

My favorite is when my team doesn't leash when I'm playing a jungler with a poor early clear, such as Evelynn Sejuani . It's even more fun when I'm against a jungler that likes to invade a lot, such as Elise LeeSin Nidalee .

Wait, no, I mean that's awful. Leash for your jungler guys. That should be common sense.

Pandemic Punch1 votes

At the very least, don't just walk to your turret and stand there. Put some defensive wards down, or ward the enemy jungle.
