How many mastery points does it take before you can actually be considered good with a champion?

I know this tends to vary based on the skill-cap of your champion, but I'd like to know what people think in general. I do like the mastery system (with the exception of the recent additions) in some respects because it lets me keep a running tally of how much I play specific champions and gives me a general idea of how much I know about them.

But how far does it go? I guess what I'm asking is is champion mastery really an accurate representation of skill. I know people with over 1 million mastery points on a champion, and there's no doubt they know that champion well. But then I see people on these forums boasting about their 100K mastery points and thinking they've got their champion all figured out and know what they're talking about.

Personally I've always thought that the requirements for getting mastery level 5 were a bit lax. You can easily get mastery level 5 with just a few dozen games, but it takes far more than that to truly know everything a champion can do and even more than that to actually be able to translate that knowledge into gameplay. For example, my highest mastery champion is Shaco at 333K and I STILL don't have any illusions about having mastered Shaco.

Does riot's mastery system actually indicate skill, or does it simply give a rough idea of quantity of games with a champion?

I have like 130k on yasuo and I'm still garbo on him, mastery just shows how much you play your champion not how well imo

I've seen a Fiddlesticks main who had over 2.5k games on him. That'd be like billion points of Mastery.

But you know what?

He couldn't play for shit. I obliterated him 10/0 with 5 times the CS at 20 minute.

It's not about the points but your game knowledge, mechanics, general moba knowledge, the role of that champ compared to your preffered role... All of those influence how fast you'll master a champ. Some champs you'll master before you get mastery 5, and some you'll never master even if you got millions of points.

it means fuck all for skill thats why a bronze 5 can have 2 milliion points on ashe and a platium player can have like 50k on their main. its just a number of games played. if the mastery system showed real skill players would bitch because over 70% of the community wouldnt get an emote. think of it like this if your in bronze your bronze with your best champ. if your in silver your silver with your best champ ect. thats why the mastery emotes dont show real skill cause all the bronze players wouldnt get past tier 1. all the silvers wouldnt get past tier 2 all the golds wouldnt get past tier 3 all the plats wouldnt get past tier 4 (but they are the first group to get an emote) all diamonds wouldnt get past tier 5 all masters cant get past tier 6 and only challengers get rank 7.

I have almost 250k on Velkoz, but that does not mean I don't have bad games and it does not make me instant platinum either. If I have to describe myself on Vel'Koz, I'd say "I'm decent, for my ELO".

It's a common feeling that the more you know, the more you are aware of the things you don't know. I think it is no different with champion mastery. The opposite of Duning-Kruger, I guess.

Those ribbons are as pointless as the participation trophies the boomers are trying to shove down your throat.

It is not a matter of number of games but contestant performance.
