How do people not understand Nemesis Draft?

L Psy Kongroo··180 votes·11,665 views

I mean the concept is incredibly simple, yet I've had 4 games in a row today where one of the following has happened:

  • Team: "ban bad champions, the other team picks for us and vice versa"

  • Captain: bans Nidalee, Yasuo, and Zed

  • Me: "does everyone understand how this mode works?"

  • Summoner X: "lol nope, don't care either"

  • Summoner X: "wait, why did my opponent get Jinx after I picked her? I wanted to play Jinx, wtf is going on!?!?"

What is so hard to understand about this game mode? It's essentially just the reverse of regular draft. Are people REALLY too lazy to read the small 2-line blurb on the home menu explaining what the mode is about? Why would you even THINK about doing something before you have a clear idea of what it will entail? Or is example #2 correct and people simply don't care? What the hell is wrong with you all? I swear, common sense is getting less and less common these days......

How do you expect them to read? C'mon, math is hard man!

How can kids these days read when they drop out of school to try new nemesis draft mode

Actually very funny considering I spent grades 5 through 7 in an anger management school and when I finally went to a real school I was 2 years behind in math (the entire purpose of the school was brainwashing kids to be mindlessly accepting of things, although you won't ever see this publicized I bet xD).

If you haven't figured out that lol players are incredibly braindead yet, I apologize on behalf of your incoming epiphany.

I think it's also going to wear off its novelty fast. You can only see Urgot/Poppy/Skarner/Aatrox so many times. It's like LCS, where you see all the same over-tuned champions, but at least those are interesting to play as and watch.

... Wait I see what they did. Well played, Riot.

I think it's more about the comp, like full ap comp(preferably a lategame one, with things like vlad,so they would pick in power just in time for you to stack mr),or full non mobile melee comp, maybe even full adc comp?

Hell i'm not even sure urgot is that bad in this mode.

Ironically there's more communication(though, well I've only played one match) in this mode than in ranked.

On the PBE my team gave the enemy full tanks and then they gave me Trundle. Was the easiest win I have ever had in League.

Implying Skarner's even a bad champion. He's stronger than most realize (mostly due to never being played).

SelflessTeammate4 votes

nods solemnly over the campfire Skarner, as well as Diana. To a lesser but significant extent, Kayle. You never see them anymore. But I do, I like picking them.

While I generally hand them Shaco, I'm starting to consider giving people Nocturne in Nemesis to see what happens. He's not the type of champ you can figure out first try, primarily because his ult is not the insta-kill many seem to think it is when they first use it (he's very squishy early on when he first gets his ult), as well as the fact that the recommended items focus a bit too much on attack speed instead of AD.

But I'm still waiting to be given a Skarner. Oh, Skarner. How I want to help you show them how frustrating your sting can really be.

I love sticking people with Shaco and Eve since I have them both in my pool, I shudder to think of that moment when my team gives shaco to a shaco main though. It'll happen eventually. Until then it's glorious watching first time shacos realize that those "annoying shacos that cause them all that grief" take a hell of a lot of work to master.

As far as the guy that said nocturne, he's super easy and a team make that mistake against one of mine earlier today, we ended up with 4 tank/bruisers (normally junglers) and a Nocturne (who we gave the jungle to) that went like 24-2. I'd NEVER give an enemy noc.

lDontLiftIcarry2 votes

don't really like nocturne. Never have tbh. Always felt overally clunky and weak. He's too binary and simple to avoid. His kit has very little flexibility...

Auz the Ripper2 votes

He actually has a good bit of flexibility, It's just very subtile. All of his spell can be used in both an offensive and defensive manner: You can Use his Q to engage, run, or nuke; His spell shield has a million and one uses; Unspeakable horror can either hold a champion down or to force someone chasing you to disengage; His ult can be an initiation or an execution, and if you're in a bind the vision block can cover your escape or bluff an enemy into backing down.

Nocturne is a very flexible champion, he just requires a lot of thought and timing to function as such.

People are way too transfixed on the "key to victory is give them bad champions and we will win" instead of, i dunno, giving them a team comp that doesn't do anything for one another, does low damage, can't siege, can't lane well, etc. Already got games with the standard tanks and supports for them, tanks and supports for us, and then the team with the %damage wins by default. The LoL community is NOT smart enough to handle this mode

Ronnie Law7 votes

Pretty much this.

I have come to realize that people tend to play 3-4 champs max, and they don't even understand basic itemization.

They buy the same items every game and have no clue what a power spike is or how to read a team comp.

This set of champions does this. This set of champions does not do that. Therefore, avoid this and make that happen.

Way to complex for the average league player.

playing nemesis mode gave me cancer... I know that feature game modes are for funsies but

They cant seem to grasp the idea that you want to ban shitty champs...

  • bans katarina and give them shitty champs
  • gave them orianna and THRESH.... fuq :l

did I mntion the players I Q'ed up with in nemesis mode felt like they were cardboard tier?

  • "shaco no ganks, afk gg" -" jinx free farming, gg"
  • adc who cant cs -"fiora has shitty late game" yes, they gave us fiora
  • list goes on, it was mindfking..
What Is Smite1 votes

Fiora has a strong late game actually, maybe you meant to say your teams Fiora was shit at the lategame stage

VardenSalad8 votes

I think he's implying someone was complaining about having Fiora. SrsBsns here knows that Fiora's lategame is boss. He's actually surprised the enemy team game his team such a strong champ.

AP MISS FORTUNE9 votes

I completely get it. Although I was one of those people who dodged. But I did not dodge on purpose. Now I have to wait 2 hours for dodging one quee by accident.. Riot please fix this. The reason I did not select a champion is because I did not realize it was my turn to pick. I was literally telling me teammates to pick something horrible for the enemy to play when suddenly I was kicked out of quee for not picking. There is something about the selection process that makes it harder to tell when to select your champ as compared to the other game modes. This is probably why there are so many dodges. Riot please fix this. Make the champ icon glow brighter or make a pop up or something. I really didn't realize it was my turn to pick.

EfficientDynamo1 votes

After playing 2 games it isn't really clear to me how the pick order works. Sometimes it skips people, and I could easily see people getting confused and accidentally not choosing a champ.

Pick order is the exact same as any other draft mode ever. It just looks the opposite of normal as you are picking for the person across from you.

SouL1ess8 votes

Well I legitimately had those 3 above scenarios in 5 minutes

Since people dodged 3 of my queued games...

lDontLiftIcarry8 votes

I had people pick eve for my team and then my team gave me eve and I got legendary 3 games in a row LANers think that eve is weak cause they're mindless retard wannabe NA meta puppets LOL

Give the eve main his champion :^)

Seriously 3 legendary games in a row. Just wtf.

then I had this game as shy jungle and that went alright until late game when they had a rammus and some other good level 9-13 champion that rekt us over and over at dragon lol my bot lane fed their rammus hard.. idk how.. it was melee vs melee lol

also those people you got paired with obviously aren't intelligent enough to read.. so..I'd have just dodged if they were that dumb about it. I haven't had issues with any teams yet Except that one where they handed the enemy team 2 or 3 late game champs and then fed the shit out of them. I think they gave them a fiddle a rammus and something else.. Oh yeah a karma.. karma wasnt an issue.. but karma+fiora was an issue lol.

you fogot the "guess I give enemy team teemo, nobody can play him well ours melee adc will rekt him"

I believe that the reason to the "Nemesis Draft" misunderstanding is all due to misreading, or not choosing to read at all. I do believe that people should pay a little more attention to the details, but at the same time, you cannot expect everyone to know how to play a new game that came out super recently.

In fact, one of the main reasons everyone knows how to even PLAY league of legends, is due to trial and error, testing and seeing the outcome. That is one of the reasons why people are actually GOOD at league of legends, is it not? :)

Spacesuit Spiff6 votes

"Ok guys let's give them all tanks" Enemy team gets 4 tanks and MF "Durr MF is bad that was a good idea" Guess who got peels and carried that game.

Overall it's an alright mode though, I feel like it could be really fun in 5s. The soloq version is just the same champs over and over though, naturally.

When people banned Viktor because he's a "bad" champion. I lost my faith in humanity.

It's sad really, how few people READ THE DESCRIPTION. They all must just be like "oh, featured mode, let's go." and not actually know a thing about how it works.

TheSilverSaint73 votes

So I have been playing some of this game mode and it seems extremely lackluster. The idea was solid, but handing people champs they don't own and flounder with in any given lane, in this community, usually ends up in the most Sodium Chloride inducing toxic games I have ever had the displeasure of crawling through. The games take a long time because nobody can decide who to give, the champs have been quite unknown, and everything feels like it is in slow motion for ninety percent of the team with the other ten percent being those that actually know the champ they got. I know the point is to try to screw the team to the wall with bad picks, but on this scale, it just isn't fun. The better choice would have been The Twisted Treeline for this mode in my opinion because it would have allowed for people to break up into groups they thought could work together while also bringing the scale and average time of the game down. Adding in the fact that the items are slightly different and many people don't play support on that map would have intensified the game and not made some people feel way underpowered while some feel like they can do it all. Good try Rito, but better luck next time.

Seriously - everyone keeps picking great cc and tanky champs and adding in like 1-2 really good carries... It's like we're just picking to lose!

Fortunately the icon is only given if you never quit. So if I play once and never again I'll get the icon right?

Mellori2 votes

I see what Riot was trying to do with this mode, but it's kinda just causing conflict. I've lost every Nemesis Draft game I've played so far because people don't know what they're doing, then want to throw blame around.

One game, I tried telling my team "Don't give them supports or tanks, you think they're weak but they're strong in this mode", and it was just a friendly suggestion, but the team proceeded on to do what I told them not to. We lost that game (obviously, since I said I've yet to win one), and they blamed ME for not telling them. Wait, I did tell them. But according to them I "Didn't say it like I meant it."

After Snowdown and Poro Toss, which I loved to bits, there's this that the only real "difference" in it is the champion select. After that, it's just like a normal game full of troll picks. And we see that enough already in ranked.

AP MISS FORTUNE6 votes

Think of this as Riot's way of teaching players how to communicate. If you are losing this mode perhaps your communication needs improvement. Their is no such thing as troll picks, only players who label people as trolls because they are unhappy with the outcomes. A team full of "Trolls" can win if they communicate, so are they really "Trolls?"

I expected that if I didn't pick an enemy champion, a random one would be chosen for me. It didn't. The game lobby exited and then I needed to wait 15 minutes to queue again.

*It needs better #Clarity in the lobby.

It doesn't do that in any other mode why would it do that in this mode?
