10 gemstones per 250 chests at a 4% gemstone drop rate

4 chests per month gets me about 62 months which is about 5 years. it is evident that chests are a money grab since 1) theyre limited to 4 per month whereas if you buy them there is no limit 2) its actually more efficient for me to work during those months instead of playing the game to purchase the chests

i get that they want to skins like hextech kogmaw and SS vayne to be exclusive for the "grind" but is it really a grind when you're limited on how often you grind and is it a grind when paying for it is more time efficient and money efficient?

edit: also thank u riot for dropping useless emotes in the chests A+ work right there lol

Ive been sitting on 10 gems for a long time now... just waiting for a decent skin. Once you get all 10 of them, you look at the money you've spent, and realize that not ONE of those skins is really worth it. For the amount of money you spend, they should be better than elementalist lux at least.

how does the EA meme go?

"The intent is to provide players with a sense of pride and accomplishment for unlocking different heroes skins. "

honestly i play kog'maw only and idc about "earning" the skin, i like kog'maw and i want all his skins

Ok sure but why3 votes

Blame Tencent, Riot's Chinese overlords

I mean, they were never really supposed to be for a grind. The chests are supposed to be a reward, there's a pretty big difference

its a grind because idont want to do it for something i really want (hex tech kogmaw)

Bottom line is that it was never designed to be why you play, it's supposed to be a reward for when you play. Your perspective is all wrong, given the fact that this is a cosmetic

listen there will, some point in the future, be a skin exclusively unlocked with gemstones for every champion. until its your champion you'll continue to make this argument. i'm not arguing that chests suck in the fact that they reward you but that there is an exclusive award in which the only way to obtain is to play alot, get chests, rng for the gemstones then finally craft the skin. its built this way for people to be pushed to pay for the skin or wait 5 years for 10 gem stones (statistically)

Darius is my most-played champion, but while I have dunkmaster, I do understand the feeling of being locked out of a skin you really want. I have 7 gemstones at the moment and you can bet your ass I'm getting dreadnought darius when I get 3 more, but I don't feel cheated or scammed or pressured into spending money for this skin. I understand that the skin will be a reward for me playing and I haven't let it become the reason for which I play.

But hey man, if you want to pay money for a cosmetic when only a couple years ago you couldn't get any for free then go for it. I'm just saying it's not mandatory

it's free if you play, statistically speaking, for at least 5 years without level ups and at least 1 year with level ups/events

League of Legends wont last that long.

You get a guaranteed gemstone at every 50th level, so you can grind more for the reliable gems if that's your jam.

I reckon they're really mostly supposed to be a fancy bonus you might get as a side effect of playing, rather than the point of you playing though.

that's even worse lol

Technically it's better since that's in addition to your standard chest gemstones, so now instead of your projected 5 years it's probably more like a year.

Which is still of course not great if you really just want a particular mythic skin, but still.

i don't get on that much but i'm a huge fan of kog'maw and everything about it (him??her???) so naturally i have every kog'maw skin so seeing that the new one is gemstone exclusive makes me finally understand what riot is doing for a long con

Male pronouns are used in his bio, so "him".

Then you see a pro rerolling 3 shards into these skins, because they own every other skin.

GG, they don't even care about OE anymore.
