Proposal: A recommended 18+ queue

Honestly, I get annoyed when I sit down to play a fun game of LoL and instead I get those 14-15 year olds who rage about everything from killstealing to nonmeta picks. I hope to play a LoL game with more mature people who don't rage about everything. I think having a 18+ recommended queue is a good idea. I mean, most adults don't even have time or energy to rage. If you have to worry about feeding your family, succeeding in work, taking care of your children, getting ready to marry, paying off a mortgage, etc, I doubt you have time or energy to rage or even care about something as trivial as a KS.

18+ won't be a limit, you don't have to actually be 18, just be as mature as one. if you are mature enough, you can join the queue at younger, but you will be expected to behave appropriately just like everyone else and not rage about dumb shit.

While there are high expectations, I feel like the ruleset itself in the 18+ queue could be a bit lighter. For example, while "gg ez" is bad sportsmanship, in the 18+ queue it shouldn't be reportable as most 18+ players would be expected to be able to emotionally handle it. I mean, in a pro football game, you don't tell the coach every insult players on the opposing team hurl at you. The coach will tell you to suck it up and be a grown up about it. However, of course, verbal harassment (actually singling someone out for bullying) will continue to be a reportable offense. But I think that in an 18+ queue, it is not the rules that govern people, but the social climate that I hope will lead to a positive atmosphere

in other words, you get freedom but you have to use it wisely

This just in: It's possible to lie about your age on the internet.

Your solution would have a placebo effect at best.

You don't actually have to be 18 to join. 18 is a recommended age. If you are 14 and you can behave appropriately, you don't even need to lie about your age, you are allowed in. You just have to behave like you are a mature adult and not rage about dumb shit

What's wrong with the current system then? How would this be better?

People get banned, chat or ranked restrictions for being assholes or being immature. The only difference is that now you're asking those people to lie about their maturity before they queue up, and if they choose not to lie about their maturity they get put into some prisoner's island of toxic scumbags.

The current system matches mature players who wanna have fun without rage with players who rage and troll and threaten to feed and AFK for the smallest reasons, like an accidental KS.

Well, at least the toxic players will be playing with other toxic players and not with the nontoxic players. They can actively choose to play with people who are like them

People do get banned and chat restricted for toxic behavior, but the goal of my system is to avoid toxic player behavior in the first place so that bans and chat restrictions are a last resort and that players are encouraged by social culture to behave civilized. Currently, there are bans and chat restrictions as punishments, but not much pressure from the community itself for players to behave, especially if the toxic players have a duoQ that backs them up. If you read GD, they have so many posts on how to skirt the system. To be honest, in my opinion, even some parts of the ban system focuses on the wrong things. Someone who defends themselves from trolls once in a while who is just being human for saying something back after being harassed for the whole game gets the same punishments as a troll who says "(expletive) you you (expletive) loser noob (expletive)" every single game as long as they are reported.

Well in my opinion the people who are being immature or otherwise toxic don't deserve to chat at all, or even play. So I'd rather them be banned or otherwise restricted instead of just shoving them all together in a place where they can unhappily cuss each other out. And just imagine the horror if some person got accidentally stuck there...

they can still be reported and banned in the normal queue you know. the normal queue will be like regular queues right now. but the 18+ queue just has a better civil environment to begin with so bans are less necessary and used as a last resort

Well in that case there would be literally zero difference because only a naive or foolish person would subject themselves to an intentionally toxic queue and you could clearly get around the restriction by lying.

You can't enforce it because people can lie. Therefore you enforce it the same way it's being enforced now, meaning there's no difference. Understand yet?

I bet you are under 18 since otherwise you would understand how stupid and unviable idea this is...

Trolls will have a field day with this...

Its like AP classes and regular classes.

In AP classes, teachers seldom care if you're late once in a while, but you have that expectation to behave well in class, good learning attitude, etc so most students are good and don't need to be reported or punished. Punishment is a last resort. This is like the 18+ queue

In regular classes, they need stricter rules and more punishments because students don't behave themselves. That is like regular queue

Hmm, the "gg ez" not being reportable will actualy make the "14 years old" come to rage freely and make the "grown up" avoid the queue to have an actual way to report the "kids" they meet. A system created to please "grown up" that pleases trolls.

While "gg ez" won't be reportable in the 18+ queue, harassment (which is the bigger problem in LoL) will have harsher penalties in the 18+ queue

You have the right idea, but a 18+ maturity level queue is basically a waste of time and effort. The most mature 15 year olds can still have toxic outbursts, just as 40 years old can. I was in queue with someone claiming to be 31. He was saying how I, at 23, am just a kid who knows nothing about life. When I proposed a question of maturity, I was given "if you're talking about maturity you're a kid." ...Yeah, he's right, I'm young and inexperienced. But calling me out on it, that's real mature.

Now, a 31 year old wouldn't be long in the immature queue. (This brings up another point I just thought of). But he's not acting respectful enough for the 18+ either. Wat do? This brings up similar problems to people with Gold potential placing into Bronze, and Bronzies placing into Gold.

On my other point, the under 18 queue would the most toxic environment we've seen in a long time. For the same reason Riot won't implement a "prisoner island" for toxic players to play together. It would be a bunch of immature brats bitching at each other, in almost every game. Do they deserve it? Probably not, honestly. It would make the game unfun for those playing in that queue. Especially since many people in that bracket would be, let's say positive players, but 15 years old (again). They'd be forced out of playing League due to the incredibly toxic environment. And how would the system judge their maturity? They'd have to play a number of games in either bracket to be evaluated.

tl;dr: Good idea, but it wouldn't work. Same issues as misplacement in Ranked. And "prisoner island" promotes a toxic environment. If you want more details, read the rest of my post.
