About that bloodrazor change on the PBE

Okay, the AS the item gives is going back down to 40% and it is now going to give 4% of max health on hit damage. In general I feel like this change is sort of in the right direction, but is lacking a key understanding of why bloodrazor is weak.

  1. Let's start by saying the on hit effect is the main reason to get bloodrazor. The AS is nice for champs, but because AS only benefits your AAs, by itself the stat is a little limited. It's the on-hit effect that gives your auto attacks bite is why you'd get the item over warrior's enchantment.

  2. The 4% on hit is technically an improvement. What I really like about the item over devourer is that it automatically scales its damage upwards as the enemy team gains health. So with the change it does 40 physical damage per 1000 health the target has instead of 30. This makes it better against health stackers than warrior as the attack damage you before AS is figured in will break even at 1500 health instead of 2000 health... at the cost of no bonus damage to your skills.

  3. Unfortunately, the damage type is still an issue. I think that the big flaw of bloodrazor over devourer was switching up the magical bonus damage to physical bonus damage. It's pretty easy for tanks to stack armor right now. Tanks also buy a lot more armor than MR. This change to damage type plays into their favor and doesn't keep them honest. So I think that it is fair to ask which is this item aimed at thwacking. If it was a magic damage bonus, it seems obvious the item is aimed at a more general purpose, however by switching the damage to physical, it seems like the item is being repurposed towards more being anti-squishy. Frankly the changes in the PBE would be slightly more of an issue to your squishy champs than anyone else... it's not that hard to wind up with 1500 HP.

  4. Part of the problem with bloodrazor now isn't bloodrazor. The big issue with the item if you ask me is the fact junglers who get it aren't getting a item 3035 item or item 3071 as often as they should. It seems like a number of junglers are opting for rageblade + bork. While 50% more on hit effects is nice if you are Vi or Vanye, players are trying to compensate for the weakness of bloodrazor with more on hit effects instead of punching the damage through better. A number of these champs also don't have much in the way of AP scaling making rageblade of questionable benefit over something like item 3036. Granted, not all all bloodrazor users can justify armor pen, mainly Shyvana who deals a lot of magic damage.

So overall, I think while the PBE changes will help, the big issue with bloodrazor is players need to BUY REAL ARMOR PEN ITEMS so their on hit effects don't tickle a tank with 250 armor.

just fyi 50% as and 4% max health is more than enough. nearly double the value of warrior come late game.

Math comparison:

Gold Value of warrior 60 attack damage = 2100 Gold 10% cooldown reduction = 300 Gold Total Gold Value = 2400 Gold 50% attack speed = 1250 Gold

recurve bow's 15 on hit is valued at 375 gold, lets call it 300 since you can't lifesteal off it (its good vs armor but so is armor shred). Tanks typically have a mix of resistances anyways.

lets say the average on hit throughout the game is 60 on hit (enemy would need 1500 hp on average, likely around mid game)

60/15 = 4 , 4x300 = 1200 gold

1200 + 1250 from 50% attack speed = 2350 gold vs 2400 going warrior.

4k hp on say chogath, mundo, sion ... = 3200 gold worth of on hit +50% attack speed = 4450 gold! 4450-2400 = 2050 gold more gold worth than warrior

you sacrifice 50 gold early for 2050 gold late. likely staying even with warrior during mid game. its actually really cost effective even if they aren't stacking hp.

I am building Bloodrazor on Vi, and I buy a BC. Bloodrazor is strong af. On Vi, the champ that benefits a LOT from the bonus AD that warrior gives and CDR, bloodrazor is miles better.
