being a good player, to me, is :
-being mechanically good -having a good macro game -being tiltproof/having a good mental -understanding the meta.
the last points means, know how to counter "op" champs and / or play them. this is the saddest thing however, but climbing is not only about champions.
Which champ do you play you think prevents you from climbing? Honestly curious
Mechanics + Macro. Champions Best case usage typical goes unused. Lets hypotheticaly say that the best ADC in the game is 
. It counts for nothing in Every game he is not used to his best case, if that best case requires high level mechanics you don't see outside of diamond. Good news. 90% of the matches him being "favored" Is a non issue.
tldr. Riots correct, focus on getting good.

You can climb with any champ in the game lol
you get better by practicing, it really has nothing to do with "Riot favoring champs over others" it's two different things they don't relate, you can keep practicing and getting better to points where counter match ups or picking S tier champs wont matter to you because you have actually gotten better.
What champions exactly do you play which are not favoured? It's quite easy to climb to at least diamod playing whatever you want.
Favor champs I can deal with since I can always just play said champions myself (riot should still buff/rework older champions to viability), but when it's favoring role that's when I hate this game [sg-shisa]
It feels like the only role that matters in plat-low diamond is the stupid jungle role.
I don't beg for ganks or anything and I'm willing to help jungler If i have lane priority, but the amount of junglers I get that invades enemy jungle at the wrong time, fight for scuttle on the weaker side of the map, never gank flashless lanes (especially when enemy laner is weak early and overextended cause freeze) or countergank a lane where you win the 2v2 easily, not grabbing objectives when there is 0 risk to getting them, and more that I don't even want to get into is rage inducing.
Here's my favorite example of the type of junglers I been getting in mid plat-low diamond.
imo when it comes to climbing it just comes to grinding out more games, pretty hard to get out of silver with less than 100 games if your skill level is somewhere in low gold.
I climbed to plat 2 as reksai so anything is possible if you play well..
Hail of blades cheap shot eyball relentless Hunter precision triumph alacticity . Go for early ganks pressure all lanes. Farm to 1200 get clearing item. Build tanky items.
