Yasuo's shield passive is the second highest base shield in the game

GrReaper96··5 votes·1,633 views

Yasuo's shield at max level shields up to 510 health, higher than any other base shield besides Shens ultimate.

When compared to Shen passive, who only shields 101 +14% bonus health with his passive at max level. Meaning Shen needs around 2922 bonus health (his full build usually lands him around 1950 bonus health only) for his passive to be able to compare with Yasuo. Not only is Yasuo's shield stronger than a TANK, but he also gets two passives, while Shen gets one.

When compared to support champions Karma Lulu Janna they would need around 400-500 AP to match his shield. Considering they dont get much AP its safe to say Yasuo's shield is stronger

When compared to AP mages Lux Orianna they would need around 700 AP to match his passive, which by then would be a full build.

Its safe to say, Yasuo has one of the best shields in the game on his passive. While it is possible to poke it out unlike other shields, getting this for free on his passive on top of another already strong passive really says something.

Does it even provide anything after getting hit once and losing all durability?

Memeguel4202 votes

It does if someone is trying to burst you and you have it up.

Why are we comparing Shields at face value for different champions with little else in consideration Yasuo's shield has far longer downtime than the supports or mages you listed there He can only instantly refresh it once with ult Those champions can also shield allies instead(or multipleLux Karma ) Janna shield also gives AD Karma Also gives MS Lulu Gives on hit damage Orianna Gives resistances These also last much longer than Yasuo's

Not to mention Yasuo's isn't on demand and won't block towershots if the enemy doesn't proc it You really can't make such a basic comparison like this

That what i mentioned on my last line. While Its true Yas shield has longer downtime and can be poked down, the fact that its his free passive ability, not to mention his second, is worth noting

All right.

When compared to Shen passive, who only shields 101 +14% bonus health with his passive at max level. You neglected to mention that Shen's shield is spammable and isn't popped by a single ability or auto attack, as well as mentioning that their shields aren't automatic and as such are harder to waste.

When compared to support champions Karma Lulu Janna they would need around 400-500 AP to match his shield. Considering they dont get much AP its safe to say Yasuo's shield is stronger

All those shields can be placed on someone else, Karma's shield makes the person shielded faster, and Janna's shield grants bonus attack damage and can be placed on turrets.

Oh, and none of them can be popped by a single instance of damage and are manually used.

When compared to AP mages Lux Orianna they would need around 700 AP to match his passive, which by then would be a full build.

Lux's shield can potentially shield five people, and Ori's can be placed on an ally, can deal damage, and gives the target bonus resistances.

And you guessed it, none of them are popped by taking a single point of damage.

Its safe to say, Yasuo has one of the best shields in the game on his passive. While it is possible to poke it out unlike other shields, getting this for free on his passive on top of another already strong passive really says something.

He has one of the best shields for absorbing burst, but that is all it does. It does one thing well, but isn't nearly as versatile as the shields you mentioned.

It's also not nearly the best shield in the game. That title easily goes to Mordekaiser, who at full build easily outstrips Yasuo's in overall health and is constantly being refreshed by his low cooldown abilities. There is a reason a short-range juggernaut who gets into the thick of the battle constantly has one of the lowest damage taken stats in the game. It's because damage dealt to his shield doesn't count as damage taken.

Yasuo's shield does not scale with any items, only with levels. Yasuo's shield disappears after just 1 second. Yasuo has to build full, or mostly damage to be relevant in the game, limiting his tankiness by a lot. Yasuo's shield has a high cooldown but can refresh on his ultimate.

Shen has more base AD then Yasuo. Yasuo is a fighter! OMG buff Yasuo!

all this post is saying is "yasuo has a shield" then arbitrarily comparing it to a bunch of other completely unrelated champions and calling it good. it's sad really.

Did you even read the post? Yasuos shield doesnt scale, true. Thats why i compared it with other champs whos shield does scale and we see his shield is as strong as theirs with their full build, even if he has 6 tears

The rest i pointed out is true, expect his shield is passive, his second one too

I did, unfortunately.

If Yasuo's shield can be made useless with a single auto attack from a mage that did about 30 damage, is it really better?

Im talking about total shield value, nothing else. Not usability, cooldown or extra effects. In terms of total amount of damage shielded, Yasuo's shield is definitely one of the best in game.

No you're not, otherwise you wouldn't stupidly say shit like it's "one of the best". You're intentionally trying to mislead people to think that it's overpowered without bringing up it's glaring limitations and weaknesses compared to the shields you're putting it against.

What value is there in focusing only on the total value of the shield in a vacuum? There is none.

Yes lets ignore he's a melee champion with the stats of a ranged one.

What about Riven 's shield?

Schàdenfreude2 votes

Riven could very well topple Yasuo's shield actually, since she builds full AD.

Her shield is 210 + (100% AD), meaning she would need about 300 bonus AD to beat Yasuo's shield. However, Riven's shield is constant and on a 3.6 second cooldown with 40% CDR.

Let's say Riven builds item 3812 item 3814 item 3071 item 3072 item 3748 item 3047 . That is 300 bonus AD already, meaning she has a shield equal to Yasuo's that is more spammable. This is increased to a 210 + 360 = 570 shield when she ults.
