Support is not a real role.

It doesn't teach you about or even promoting CSing and can't even function without another player. You're literally someone's bitch and follow them around, that's it.

I don't see how anyone can call this a real role. Not to mention, the champions are mostly girly, unbadass, and overly simplistic.

If you're a bad support you do nothing. If you're a good support you:

Help your adc cs under turret, increasing their farm and improving their dmg.

Know when to exhaust high priority targets.

Properly use your extremely powerful actives.

Get vision of the map for your team.

Roam to get kills in other lanes like a jungler would.

If you're really good at support, you're usually helping the team shotcall because supports should have the highest map awareness.

Supports tend to have very good kits. Even their basic abilities can change an entire teamfight.

And they manage to do all of this while people consider them their bitch, and they get very little gold. A really good support can easily set up kills or wombo combos that win the entire teamfight.

Either with a form of hook and extreme cc like a tank- Blitz, thresh, nautilus, leona.

Or large impactful abilities/ ultimates. Nami, Janna, Rakan, Maokai, etc

My fiance played this game for four years. I kept telling him to support. He refused. He could never pick a main or a role and bounced around aimlessly for FOUR years.

About two months ago he finally caved. He now loves it and is maining Rakan, and Velkoz.

Successfully get a carry fed when they can't even last hit their cs and then say support is useless.

Gee, I wonder if the Soraka main is trolling when they say support isn't a real role and should be looked down on because the champions are girly and not badass, lol.

that's a beta/nu-male, not a man.

Seriously, just put THIS into perspective: Would you rather be playing an awesome playmaker and being a one man army or playing a woman that is helpless on her own and spends most of her time placing wards.

Grace Of Kaizen2 votes

Have you ever watched high elo supports? They are the play makers. Go watch bunnyfufu or something.

Try playing a game in high elo without someone who manages vision and general field control then.

Except placing wards is not all supports do. If you do that you're a bad support, and not that support is bad.

  • Good supports will get everybody alive and fed as the team's bread winner.
  • Good supports will alter the tide of a teamfight or even the entire game singlehandedly.
  • Good supports will make the hardest play (it's not uncommon to see supports run 4+ active items), but hides their presence the most.
  • Good supports control and dominate the most important aspect of every match, vision.
  • Good supports will be the most valuable assets in the team even if they don't have raw damage (though it's also common to see mage, bruiser/tank and other offensively built supports who also kills on their own).
  • Good supports will never take credits or go after it.
  • Good supports will leave no one behind.

If that's your definition of being a "beta male" (I mean seriously, who invented this shit), then welp. I don't think you're that "alpha" either.

All in all, don't buy into that alpha/beta stuff.

What a great response to someone actually sitting down and explaining stuff to you.

I mean seriously, what kind of supports have you been playing with and against to warrant this "beta" impression?

Champs that are often assigned the job to literally look after the entire map with junglers, to ensure successful teamfights, often to dive head-first into the middle of the enemy team, to babysit another player throughout the first 10-15 minutes of every game, to look after everybody in the team after early game, to take nothing but still work etc etc. No no no, tha's EASY and ain't nothing because they don't do damage and should be instantly invalidated and completely disregarded. Well sure, but they can be built to do damage which they often do; and doing damage means very little when objectives can't be secured, which often require supports and junglers to do that.

So I am at loss at what kind of metric you're even using to determine which champ is "alpha" and which is "beta", it seems completely random and utterly personal, and also makes no objective sense from what I can tell.

But I should've know when someone argues on the basis of whether or not something is "alpha" or "beta", a completely meaningless metric created by those without brains, strength nor grace to make it seem that they're superior.

alpha male champion examples

Draven Yasuo Vayne Brand

BETA examples

Lulu Soraka Teemo Taliyah Janna Nami

clear enough for you?

Grace Of Kaizen1 votes

I once played a game as nami mid where I got two pentas. There was a draven on the enemy team. Point ruined.

Any of these champs can get kills and win games except maybe soraka. Go try it.

oSEXYPLATYPUSo1 votes

saw a video of a raka getting a triple kill while a bot lane and jungler dove her under turret last night

Grace Of Kaizen1 votes

Yeah but the turret helped. Soraka solo lane isn't going to work very well. I've played janna and nami mid and they do fine.

oSEXYPLATYPUSo1 votes

its still a support raka being dove by 3 and getting a triple kill

Grace Of Kaizen1 votes

Not saying it's not impressive just trying to show that just because these champions are supports, building damage and going to mid or top can make them just as dangerous as any other champion. Soraka used to be able to when she could heal herself with her w.

Oh so trigger-happy, emos, and fire are your definition of being alpha, where their gameplay is either obnoxious and/or capable of 1 shotting the entire enemy team. I'm sorry, edgelord is not a synonym of either "man" or "alpha".

Seriously besides Brand who can actually function independently, 2 of them need supports to feed and babysit them most of the time, and 1 of them is designed with such an obnoxious kit he will never be liked by others until some changes are made to his oppressive zoning power. That's not what we call "alpha".

And funnily enough, Brand is also a rather popular support pick.

Just because a character is not rushing into your face, it doesn't mean they're "beta". Many of your supposed "beta" characters have large to global presence across the map, is that what you call chicken?

And really, how come Garen, Braum, Darius, Olaf, Trynd, Graves, Jayce etc are nowhere to be found in your "alpha" list? Like, aren't they the real alpha in this game?

Yeah, capable of one-shotting the enemy team sounds pretty alpha to me.

You described it yourself.

That's edgy, that's not alpha. Read the rest of what I have in the post.

You don't even go by the conventional definition of these already skewed and meaningless terms, so on what principles are you functioning on? You can't just make stuff up whenever you feel like it, that's not how it works.

EDIT: Not to mention, only Brand can 1 shot the entire team, and maybe Yasuo. The other 2 simply can't, in fact they can't even do shit without supports. And again, Brand is also a popular support pick as well. So you just debunked your own stuff too.

Grace Of Kaizen1 votes

But the only one that can one-shot an entire enemy team in one go really is brand. And he's primarily picked as support... Try 1v5ing as draven versus a team that's not stupid. Guess who will kill you? It's not the enemy vayne. It's the thresh that hooks you when you try to catch an axe. Without thresh there you'd kill vayne. But thresh just got you slaughtered

Linason6 votes

Being a support doesn't mean you're a bitch. Hell I don't even play a supporting character but I still respect those who do because THEY are effectively saving MY ass from getting killed. If that makes them a bitch, which it doesn't, than I'd rather have them on my team than someone who will let me die just because they don't want to take the time to help me with taking down the lane/the enemy. You are clearly not over 15 because if you were you would see how valuable having a support on your team is.

FiddlesOnTheRoof3 votes

Then don't play it. Personally, I think support and jungle are tied for the most important roles in the game.

oSEXYPLATYPUSo2 votes

this isnt a game based on kills its a game based about map control and securing objectives and then taking the enemy base .

kills can help do this by the enemy not being there to defend or what have you. but you can win games while behind in deaths and it happens all the time. those supports usually keep your sorry ass from dying or setting up kills so you can look like a good player. they will heal and shield you, tank damage for you and hell might even die just so you can get a double kill in lane and win the lane... but you dont do any of this with out teamwork and both players being on point.

now kindly SHUT UP about supports not being a real role

Neither does jungling.

and can't even function without another player

Neither can the adc.

You're literally someone's bitch and follow them around, that's it.

Supports do most of the damage early and have all the CC and protection abilities in botlane. They are literally the powerhouse-babysitter, which are there to help the adc, who, fpr all intends and purposes, is helpless as a toddler in early-mid game, with the possibly exception of Kalista and Draven.

Not to mention, the champions are mostly girly, unbadass, and overly simplistic.

As compared to the right-click bot ADCs, most of which, btw. are female champions?

Shuyin1781 votes

Totally not like supports are the main reason ADCs can actually survive early game or anything. I mean it's not like we ward so you can be warned of incoming danger, keep you healed/shielded/defended when you are attacked (Alistar Bard Braum Janna Leona Lulu Lux Morgana NamiNautilus Rakan Sona Soraka TahmKench Taric Thresh), or can get game changing picks that can bring our team to victory or anything (Alistar Amumu Annie Bard BlitzcrankLeona Morgana Nami Nautilus Rakan Sona TahmKench Taric Thresh Zyra).
