Why am I always behind? (jungle)

I've been playing a lot of Kayn lately and am trying to re-learn this jungle shit. I've noticed that I ALWAYS seem to be behind a level, no matter how ahead I am. There are some rare occasions that I am the same level as the enemy jungler, but 95% of the time I'm back one level AT THE LEAST for some odd reason.

There are times where the reason is obvious (I'm playing bad, getting invaded, etc.) but there are times where I have more kills AND farm yet I'm still back a level. What gives? I gank, I clear mine and sometimes their jungle, yet I can never seem to set them behind. What am I missing here?

If you at level 1/2 clear out the entire red side jungle, you will be level three simply from that. Then move onto blue side and you will get level 4. From there gank a lane or two, clear a red side camp, then gank again, farm again, etc.

Your best bet would be to watching a high-rated Kayn and see what he does.

When specifically, at what levels.

As a Kayn player, it really should be the other way around in that you should always be ahead of the enemy Jungler, barring a crazy feeding spree. The only reason I can see this not working out for you is that you're just not inefficient, but there's really little to work with here.

You also may not be resetting your Jungle properly, if you are clearing and ganking a lot. The Jungle only levels up if you kill the camp, ergo repeatedly farming the same camp, especially Krugs and Raptors, is how you maximize experience per farm. It also makes you look like you have more farm than the opponent, but in reality you're always farming camps that are weaker than you and thus far less valuable.

catch up xp manipulation. dunno what level/mmr you're playing at but basically, you clear too fast and don't leach enough xp from successful ganks. or even unsuccessful ones I guess, but maybe you don't want to tilt your laners.

also scuttle crab, dunno if that needs to be said but you must control those to level efficiently. you can stay even for a while w while ignoring them but then you have to play the rest of the jungle that many scuttles better.
