How should Bard be played

So I bought bard, tried him out in custom to see how he felt and then ran off to play same real games with him, but there are a couple problems that I hope you guys could help out with.

His build: The ap ratios on his build seem to be around .3 feel free to correct me if im wrong. So for that Reason, I build him like I would an ap tank. Ancient coin, merc treads, Rylais, Abyssal, Zhonyas, Warmogs

The second part is his charm collecting.

Most of his charms seem to go in either our jungle or the enemy jungle. Because of this I have to leave bot, forcing ym adc to 1v2 while I go collecting my charms. I know there has been some talk that he should be tried out in the jungle since that's where his charms go anyway. Assuming you will keep him support, any idea how many you should ideally have by 10-20 minutes?

I find that if I collect them as soon as they spawn every time, it leaves my adc vulnerable and me under leveled. But at the same time, I have had it when we were losing and the map looked like I warded 30 times. So any bard players, how do you balance laning with charm collection?
