What happened to Jax?

Before he was really considered OP but what happened? I havent really followed patches unfortunately. Did they hurt his scaling or early?

Overnerfed by riot because he and poppy are the two champs with the ability to go nuts on the other team in the endgame if they get there. He did it better and had an easier laning phase so he got nerfed.

Something something counterstrike something gap closer, something something mixed damage something else insane scaling, something more, passive AS steroid.

Yeah. He was OP. Plus the rise of ranged top champs.

They haven't nerfed him since 4.11 in July (and that was more a balance nerf than a nerf nerf), and the most recent patch was a buff. I'd attribute it almost solely to the rise of the ranged top meta.

People are still banning him in my games. Lol.

Well what happened? No one talks about him much on the forum like before too so what nerf came?

I dunno. I haven't really been around long enough to see when Jax was a common pick. I think he's still very good, though.

His jungle speed is pretty insane right now. Take atk speed marks and quints and you'll breeze through it incredibly fast.

The rise of poke, range, and cc ruined all-inners like jax. especially because his natural tankyness was nerfed when we WAS op and the meta was all different, more melee based.

He got overnerfed

Now he's one of the worst champs in the game

People say he's good but he's not even in top 5 top laners atm: Lissandra Irelia Rumble Maokai Gnar

In that list you have three quasi-ranged champions (Lissandra, Maokai, Gnar), two tanks (Rumble, Maokai), and a Jax lookalike focused more on spell-dueling than on attack-dualing. It's the ranged top meta, not the nerfs.

They recently buffed his ult so he scales better with the later levels of it. And they reduced counter strike CD at higher levels. He started making a comeback with this. Namely ZionSpartan who is a big fan of the champion put up some good games with him from what i've seen. and i see him a bit more in random games

he got some base stat nerfs that pushed him out of lcs play, then he fell out of favor.

Jax got his base stats nerfed in Patch 4.11, all of which targeted his innate tankiness. Specifically, he received nerfs to his base health (lowered to 450 from 463), health per level (85 from 98, giving him 234 less health at level 18) and armor per level (3 from 3.5, giving him 9 less armor at level 18). This solved the issue of him having overly generous base stats, but made him a bit too weak overall, so he got buffed in Patch 4.21, where his Counter-Strike cooldown got reduced by 2 seconds across the board, and the active on his ult, Grandmaster's Might, got a little early game nerf and a large late game buff (he gains 20/35/50 armor and MR, up from 25/35/45, and the bonus AD ratio on his armor got increased to 50% from 30%). He seems to have become a bit more popular, though still not as popular as he was pre-4.11.
