For the love of...: COIN IS UNHEALTHY FOR THE GAME RN

Like holy fucking moly. It gens too much damn gold. Support itemization isn't exactly tooled with the notion in mind that we'll be running around full build by 30 minutes, before anyone else on our team. It was tooled to be pretty damn effective per item, but slow to build because supports didn't have a ton of gold rolling in. If support gold is going to be significantly higher than before, then we have to retool how we work support items into the game, especially support items that serve to be "early game buys" like Censer. Remember: There was a time where Censer was as strong as it was AND Redemption + Locket was nerfed, but Janna wasn't rocking a massive win rate/play rate/ban rate, Sona had a 51% - 52% win rate and didn't use coin at all, and THRESH was the big deal in bot lane. What changed? THIS MOTHER FUCKER RIGHT HERE. item 3301

If we AREN'T going to remold the role around getting more gold and building items more freely: FOR THE LOVE OF TEEMO NERF COIN'S GOLD GEN

maybe they should just get rid of all items besided health and mana pots and focus on balancing the actual champs and gameplay

Except, even with this item, unless you pull full support items (which are relatively cheap) and not say, 'support' mage with an APC build, you might have 1-2 completely items compared with the midlander who would have 3-4 at that point. I use this item all the time, it generates more gold than the others, yes, since it relies less on hitting stuff - but if you were the optimize on the stacks of the other two immediately when they were up, the gain is comparable, if not more.

This item is not overstacked.

They could also buff the other two support items if they're making coin like this, because right now I don't bother getting a spell thiefs.

And that just powercreeps the entire support role and makes them overpowered.

Wow! I did not think people wouldn't realize that.

Shhh! They'll actually do it!

I like actually having gold to play with as a support now and then...

Considering it is a set amount of gold you can get with the item as opposed to Spellthief's which requires you to hit someone or Relic Shield that requires you to execute minions. If you nerf it too hard, nobody picks it because it, against your power, you will get that amount of gold no matter what.

Arguably, the best idea is to nerf what they will be buying.

This is a fine point, but this isn't the right way to start that process imo. Coin needs nerfs now, and they can redo support itemization later, and bring this coin back at that time if it's appropriate.

Is there a reason we shouldn't remold the role about getting more gold and building items more freely?

No, but the issue is that we're half-assing it.

Next patch is world's patch so we clearly won't be making too many sweeping changes. The patch after that kicks off pre-season with an entirely new rune system, presumbaly sweeping changes jungle changes in response to the new rune system, and overall a huge overall on how the game works. is there a reason why that overhaul should not include higher gold in the support role?

Honestly, I would like more gold in the support role, but the game environment doesn't support that right now. That's the problem. Either work everything around coin's new standard or push coin back down to the old one. Regardless, the issues stem from coin.

Because if support are overpowered (which overcreeping their gold gen would do), melee champions would be invalidated and ADCs would but untouchable.

Oh, sounds like the current patch!

Coin is an item that stands against the core principle of high risk / high reward gameplay of MOBA -genre.

The only reason, I can think of, that Riot hasn't gutted it yet is because there's too damned many Janna mains in Riot HQ.
