People need to experiment more!

MrNuclearPumpkin··33 votes·2,384 views

Now. When I say experiment. I mean, in a normal game with 4-5 friends. Not in ranked or even solo queue... unless you ask first. But, experiments are how we find out about OP things. Blue Ezreal. Annie support. ADC Leblanc (That was a thing around season 2). Things that we'd never even think about until that one dude tried out something and whoa, it worked.

With things as they are now, there are a TON of various things that could work. Things that wouldn't even be thought of a season or two ago. For instance. People did start using Jungle Akali around the start of season 6. And... it actually worked pretty well!

I just played a game in ARAM where I built Veigar with Protobelt, RoA, and Rylais. So, could it work if someone build jungle tank Veigar? Really think about it before you shoot it down instantly. His ganks would be awesome. He doesn't really need to build tons and tons of AP items since he gathers AP so quickly. And with Strength of the Ages and RoA, you could be surprisingly tanky and still do tons of damage. ...of course your clear would be pretty terrible and you're very very open to being invaded... but hey!

But yeah seriously. Try different things out. Jungle, top, support. ADC is... not...as open to experimentation nowadays. Around Season 2, people were using things like ADC Orianna and ADC Annie. So... yeah maybe ADC Kennen? ADC TF? Idk. Jungle Karma, that was a thing for a while around Season 4... or 5. Can't remember. And that was BEFORE she could use her healing snare on the monsters. Maybe now she'll even have a better time.

All I'm saying is, just try out different things. Get a bunch of friends and brainstorm. If you find something that works, post it on youtube, post it on reddit, show it off. If you feel like League of Legends is getting stale for you, maybe you could try and figure out a new meta.

You tell me. Should players try and look for a new Sleeper OP meta? Or just stick to the good ole reliable?

Zac support has its weaknesses, but overall if you just don't wanna deal w/ mana management and want a good support for a yasuo comp I like it.

I love running Gnar support. Even though it's INCREDIBLY easy to see when he's going to engage, people still get caught by it all the time. He's manaless, has great poke and decent peel even when not in Mega Gnar.

learning meta wont make you a good player. good players use meta; define meta; sometimes change meta.

follow the rules. here are the rules: http://gameinfo.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/game-info/get-started/summoners-code/

everything Else, is a guideline. guidelines are there to make the game easier to learn, not more frustrating to play. so when you see me yi support with smite and raid the shit out of their jungle pls stop saying "report".

There's a difference between experimenting and trolling...just to let you know. I would see it as a graph something like this:

Meta --------------------------------------------------- Experimentation ---------------------------------------------------------------- Trolling Vayne ADC -------------AurelionSol Jungle---------------Azir Jungle ---------------MasterYiSupport -----------------AP Illaoi

Cass is actually better bottom lane now. Her poisons are just enough without building AP to poke and slow, and Miasma works WAY better as a zoning/Vayne and Lucian Shutdown tool than it ever did before.

whoa thanks i havent tried it since rework, i shall try it :D

I've played Fiddlesticks support quite frequently, and I consistently get b#tched at for trolling, and this is in normals, where there are people playing Ekko support, Yasuo ADC, and more. People are so set in their ways as to what a support can and cannot do that they won't tolerate anything else. A support can fall into three categories - poke, peel, or tank. People seem to think that peel and tank are the only viable ways to support a lane, when poke has just as much influence because even if you can't peel, running your enemies out of the lane denies them experience and CS. Granted, I'm still tweaking Fiddle's build because early Dark Wind can steal creep if I build too much AP, but otherwise, people don't take into account how powerful a fear and silence are.

I mean. if you buy sightstone, and let me CS, I'm usually good with whatever. expecially if you pick a champ that works well in the lane matchup. but if you're first pick, and you don't go with one of the generalist supps, don't buy a sightstone, and drop space aids on my minion wave, I'm probably gonna go farm in the jungle, since you're not being a helpful supprt, have a useless kit, and are hard gimping me in the lane matchup.

You are aware that saying I have to be a generalist support or you leave the lane is the antithesis of this entire thread, correct? That's saying I'm forced to pick a standard support and NOT experiment.

he said pick a non-meta pick, don't ward, /AND steal his cs.

do all three and you're usually not trying a new pick, you're trolling.

Fiddlesticks support actually used to be meta during late season 3

Experimentation is fine, but when it fails ... 0/10 fails ... know that even in norms, you've wasted some one else's time.

I think too many people often forget that their failures are a team failure. If you're not playing to win, why play?

Being on a stomped team isn't anymore fun than being on the team doing the stomping.

Ruukuegg1 votes

I mean, I have had plenty of fun in losses. So in normals, I play for fun. In ranked it is to win. Granted, winning is more fun than losing, but I have also had really sucky wins. So if you play ranked, usually normals are for fun and experimenting imo

ADC Kennen was on the fringe of the meta for a while. I tried ADC Janna in a bot game, and I think a good Janna player could pull it off PVP. I play Lissandra support, and Malphite support and jungle, as well as Braum and Tahm Kench top.

I mean, I ADC garen, a pretty decent amount with Raka as my support. My friend and I always get criticized for it in champ select, then halfway through laning phase when I'm 4/0 they apologize for doubting. It is great. We always like trying new things. Some people just really hate it.

Bobloser35552 votes

But then you need an adc top or juggle or you wont have late game damage.

Ruukuegg2 votes

Bahahahahaha that is cute! I build an IE, maw, I almost one shot squishies with my Q, plus then my E does a decent amount of damage. Then, my villan. Trust me, no. No you don't need one. Plus I don't really die much after 16. It is a brutal combination. Through-out the whole match

Troll for Trump2 votes

No jgl akali is horrrriibble.

Heck, Jgl Nasus is better.

Veigar doesn't have enough sustain; Your first camp you get a leash, and you should have fairly high Hp, but because of your poor base stats, you won't even be able to do blue+wolves before being forced to recall.

Rift scuttler would take ages too.

Spoofghoul2 votes

its the only thing i do my latest creation is called ThunderBard

its a bard build involving item 3020 item 2301 item 3285 item 3087 & thunderlords with extra pen masteries

the burst damage is well, pretty big tbh

you stun someone slap em with the meeeps and the thunderlords ludensproc statickproc and tribute charges and deal like a fuckton burstdamage.

B1naryB0t2 votes

Buy a lich bane instead of ludens. Similar stats, plus it packs even more of a punch on your autos. And you auto a lot.

Spoofghoul1 votes

yea not really lich bane would do about as much damage as statikk unless you grab more ap and with his cooldowns you wont even proc it more often

this is more for support

so those 2 are going to be your only damage items, proived you get enough meep you can do about 1k aoe dmg with your first basic attack. And if you get a crit you will do even more. With a ton of meeps and a crit you can do 1,5k + your Q you can see how with ignite added in there its easy to kill squishies with this ^^

wont offer much sustained damage but people just dont expect a support to burst them down so hard

another benefit of stattik over lichbane is increased attackspeed for faster meep procs & thus burst aswell as being able to clear wards quicker so you can clear 1 extra with the sensortrinket

B1naryB0t2 votes

I'm talking for a replacement of Ludens with Lich Bane support. Statikk still seems like a weird choice cause of the price tag and stats, but I can imagine Q + AA with T-lords, Lich Bane, and Statikk, you could destroy someone.

But Lich Bane compared to Ludens will give you 10% cdr extra, some mana, and a wonderful sheen passive, which will destroy people.

Spoofghoul1 votes

oh then i missunderstood

but even then ludens deals just as much damage and doesnt require you to land q first when playing bard ^^

also 10% movespeed is nice.

and statik just gives so many good things just think of it as a very cheap ludens

with extra attackspeed so you can do your meep attacks faster and clear wards easier

B1naryB0t1 votes

Lich Bane gives 7%. Seriously, I recommend you at least try it, where you replace Ludens with Lich Bane. I honestly think you could solo the enemy adc with a single Q + AA.

Spoofghoul1 votes

i know lichbane works except i only have 1 ap item and at that amount of ap it wont deal more damage then ludens

the reason i pick ludens over lichbane is simply because it 1; doesnt need a prerequisite like casting a spell first since your meeps proc it 2; its aoe damage which works nicely with your meep and the statik proc

B1naryB0t1 votes

I seriously recommend you just try it. You get enough damage from it without stacking AP. And typically the burst combo is just Q + AA, which synergize extremely well.

Just try it.

Also some people need to open their god damn eyes sometimes in regard to this.

I mean in Korea they're really only playing Rengar as a tank top laner, and he has a decent winrate, much better then his current assassin winrate in NA, yet if I play him tank top lane in a game, normal or ranked, I will almost without a doubt get harassed for it. Even if I'm solo carrying a heavy ass team just bent on feeding the already fat enemy team with their own stupidity, I will most likely get blamed for the loss just cause I didn't build full glass canon Rengar......

So yeah I think people need to experiment more all the time, in normals that is, but I also think people need to not be so fucking narrow minded when it comes to the currently effective builds.

This is why NA is always behind. Always.

Korea is almost ALWAYS the one that finds the new meta. And why? Because they experiment 24/7.

Tank Elise support was top ban a little while ago (in Korea) and you know who created Tankko? Korea. Tankali? Korea.

Korea is the poster child for experiments. NA has a problem with sticking to the current meta until it's nerfed. Then they'll find another meta to cling to.

Korea literally, redefines their own meta so much. I really really wish I was good enough and talented enough to play on Korean servers. :(

Isaac McDougal2 votes

Pros most likely spam cheese in scrims all the fucking time. If it's going to get them ahead in the rankings, they're going to try it. It's just that the meta is a cheese grate probably.

As a person who adores Rumble support, maxing Q is better by far for bot lane. People WILL underestimate your damage. Almost 100% of the time, the enemy ADC will attempt to 1v1 you around level 4-6 and (if you're at higher health), they'll lose almost 95% of the time. The combination of your enhanced Q damage with overheat auto attacks will outburst them early game.

Be sure to run thunderlords so you can easily proc it early game with your Q :D

I'm sure you know already but like, if you lose lane your support and maybe even your team will blame you for it, even if it's not your fault. If you lost because you fed, it's because you played Rumble support. If you lose because of your ADC, it's because you didn't play a better support.

So... you pretty much HAVE to carry your lane.

ADC Kennen was played by Gambit (Moscow 5 at the time) in the season 2 worlds. Jungle Karma was played by Gambit through season 3. :D

Good times.

The game is a lot more "worked out" now though- but that said, most of us sub-plat scrubs play so sub-optimally, it wouldn't matter much. :D

Yes! Yes! Yeeeees! I like playing AP Alistar and ADC Twitch Top + Assassin Twitch/Noc mid. Also enjoy playing Kha and Lee on solo lanes and Bard everywhere

xaritscin1 votes

that's what i try to do most of the time during normals. trying to find alternate builds for my champions:

Shaco support with item 3092 and AP items works well in most match ups. of course, if my duo bot gets on the thing.

Khazix with AP items can pack a punch if you know how to play the passive minigame. but sometimes you get wrecked by tank comps so its a 50/50 change of winning. its fun tho...

Elise ADC can be very underwhelming for the enemy since you can fuck them up both from range and in melee. since most of her spells scale with missing or maximum health it still does quite a bit of magic damage. but you may end up fucked if the enemy can faceroll you or CC you.

Rumble in the jungle, i never expected that to become popular somehow. i used item 1401 back then. havent played him with item 1402

Chogath AD, no one expects the E DPS coupled with item 3074 and item 3087 , the habilites are for utility and you still get that juicy true damage on R

Hecarim AP, 50/50 like K6, depends mostly in how the enemy builds, but a single combo can one shot squishies

Tryndamere AP, because why not.....most of it is doing damage with E and massive heals from Q. item 3157 makes you really hard to kill unless you're a fool and try to man up 1v5

Sion AP, good old CC and nukes with W...i mostly see him full tank or with AD items. but it can still get the job done

those are some of my favorite picks. however, i wouldnt recommend them for ranked gameplay unless you have quite te experience with them.

experimentation can lead to interesting matches, as long as you know how you're going to build the champion and which runes and masteries to use for the build you want to use.

Billy VoHagen1 votes

I want to play ap shyvana now. But the AP ratio's they gave her W are so shitty..... Maybe f they made it 15% on burn and 5% on auto.

Athenes Lulu1 votes

I remembered one time someone fucked up in champ select in ranked, picked Kayle, and ended up going botlane. Levels 1-5 were a bit harsh due to some poke, but level 6 was pretty much double kill run over the enemy botlane. Oh, and we won that game.

I remembered letting an ADC (more like AD hybrid) LB work with me. I shrugged, let her go bot, and carried the game against a fed enemy Fizz.

I remembered making Fiora, reworked Poppy, Darius, Veigar, Riven, Xin, and even Quinn, both pre-rework and post-rework, work as the botlane carry.

Anything's possible as long as you commit to it and know how to make it work. Not every matchup is favorable because even meta comps gets countered hard. However, team comps still matter, which is a very good reason that people don't play different things, especially in ranked.

And yes, Lulu and Sona supports still work perfectly fine. With nearly anything, too.

To answer your question, it's because in a unknown number of premades and non-premades, you are going to have to find an effective way to communicate and force each other to work together. Because team comps still matter, botlane can't just blindly pick a duo mage bot while the rest of the team went full AP. Yes, the meta shouldn't be set in stone or even be a rule, but it's for the unknown players to find a way to communicate and compromise in a very short amount of time.
