How do I aatrox?

I can't seem to win any fights with Aatrox or even get out safely without relying on the passive. Of course it's there to be used and it's not difficult to fight only when it's up, but I'd think it should actually be possible to have a teamfight without my passive up and not die instantly.

I'm building devourer, then BoRK or hydra, then GA and other defensive items. It's not enough. I'm ultra squishy and everyone focusses me. Blood price is completely useless because it makes me die even faster. That can't be the point of the champion, can it?

Wat do. :(

The Aatrox mains I've talked to (they are rare) build him tanky first and then get damage items later. He's a strong initiator that is squishy early. Depending on the match up will dictate which tanky item to get first.

Not really that strong seeing how sensible to CC his Q is, try to CC a malphite or Vi, those are strong initiators.

My only problem with him is that he has to sacrifice survivability for any action he takes, want damage?

Pay.

Want CC?

Pay.

Meanwhile champs like Riven have no downside.

Heck even AP Xin Zhao is a better Aatrox if you want a sustain tank.

Aatrox's damage lies in his early, when his passive is up and he can go ham since he won't die, all the Aatrox i've seen rush BotRK than full tank, they also seem to love thornmail to duel adc better.

No need to hide it, lategame there are 100% many other better bruisers, that tank better, and deal more damage.

He's a very good splitpusher though, in duels he's quite strong.

It's sad that his teamfight potential isn't how his lore says he should be.

To the OP:

Ever tried splitpushing if you can't teamfight (Might not be your fault, it's just that certain teamcomp have always the edge over yours and you should totally avoid 5v5 fights.).

As i mentioned before he's a very good splitpusher, he does fairly well in duels and you can buy alot of time for your team to push somewhere else if you say you even buy GA, with your passive it takes a while to take you down.

We got even a new item to kill towers faster, remember that winions are the most OP thing when it comes to end a game where you don't want to Ace>Nexus.

So just devourer and then rush heart/visage/etc?

B-b-but no damage. :(

Visage is good... increasing the healing by Blood Thirst and Life Steal... maybe it's the only defensive item you need... if you want to build AD and Life Steal... and don't forget Maw... because can raise AD at lower Health... which is good to for Blood Thirst...

Maybe Hydra+Devourer+Maw+Visage is just enough... if you can get last item... GA/Randuin/Sunfire is fine... or maybe Bloodthirster is good choice too... making Health loss by Blood Price negated completely by Life Steal...

but before that after Devourer pick Vamp Scepter then Hexdrinker... then just finish Hydra and finish Maw... after that build Visage...

Boots is up to you...

The point of devourer is that its stacking passive makes up for buying other damage items until later. Warrior gives you a lot of AD, but no AS, so it is better for increasing you W procs for both the damage and the heal, especially now that devourer got its base damage reduced by 15.

If you want to take him jungle (which I assume you do since you were building Devourer) I would say devourer or Warrior are both decent upgrades for him, devourer lets your damage scale up without any other damage items (but it just got nerfed), while warrior makes all your AAs *and *abilities deal extra damage. BotRK is a core item on Aatrox if against tanks and you want to team fight, but he is better suited in my experiences as a solo split pusher with hydra, since he is designed more as a duelist than a team fighter (he can do both, but his 1v1 is really good). Don't build GA early, because its combat stats are pretty weak (basically if you get it early, you will use the passive very quickly because people tend to both focus you as the guy with the revives, and the armor+MR is quite weak without some health to back it up). save GA for a fifth or sixth item. Get a randuins or SV first, depending on their primary damage. Unless you are ahead, getting one or both of those tanky items before your second damage item is usually a safer option.

You get First Blood and then either farm under turret (unless enemy is tanky, then GG) or AFK and hope your team can capitalize your FB

devourer, randuins/visage, botrk and build the rest tank according to their team.

i suggest just playing him top though... rush botrk then tank everything else except maybe zerker boots if ur ahead or other team lacks cc
