Weekly reminder that Riot removed ARAM bans because people wanted to play specific picks...

...which goes completely agains the whole purpose of ARAM, which is experiencing various champions in various situations.

Based on Riot's reason on why they removed ARAM bans:

For players who just wanted to reroll for those champs, and didn’t care about having a perfectly balanced experience, it now felt like they were never available

What's the big deal with people not getting the champions they want? That's the whole charm of ARAM and if people don't like that they have fewer chances of getting their one trick pick, then the gamemode isn't at all for them.

Yes, I'm back another week to (oooooooh what an horrible action) complain about the best addition ARAM ever got who unrightfully got removed based on bad reasons (and, once again, the option of unlocking the champion pool in the gamemode isn't a a reason, stop, it'll never happen and you all know it) and faulty feedback.

Bans were the best thing that came out from the recent ARAM changes and it brought much more satisfaction to people who truly enjoy the diversity of ARAM. The "balance changes" that came along are barely effective at all (it was said several times before, even before the balance changes, that raw number modification on broken or underwhelming champions in ARAM will probably never have enough impact unless mechanical changes come along, which is highly discouraged either way) yet, people (including Riot based on their post) act like they can replace the raw and efficient gatekeeping bans had. The worst thing about those balance changes is that they often impact our base knowledge on each individual champions (which is kinda a founding concept of "skill" in ARAM), we can't really reference our past experience with each champions since some do more damage, some less, some take more, some less, and some are same as before, but unless you mentally remember EACH changes on EACH champion by checking their howling abyss buff, it is highly confusing either way.

Other than the OH SO TRAGIC AND INCONCEIVABLE 30 seconds extension to each game (what a tragedy, really...), there is no reason to not bring back bans to ARAM. So, once and for all:

If you didn't enjoy ARAM bans because you couldn't get a specific frequently banned champion, you don't enjoy ARAM's base concept and it is pretty self explanatory

ARAM should be from a pool of all champions, not just the ones owned.

They commented on that as well and said it didn't really change anything in their playtests, they still ended up with teams that weren't the most favorable.

Do you have a source on the "didn't change much" part? I only saw Riot mention that, although they weren't completely ruling it out, enabling all champs would have a non-negligible impact on revenue.

It was literally what you linked... it says

With all champs unlocked in our internal playtests, we still managed a Lux/Morg/Blitz/Jhin/Alistar comp. It was terror. It happens.

Do you actually read those?

Plus they said

Why not just unlock all champs - This would help for sure, but has side effects we aren't comfortable with.

Difference in interpretation apparently. I read Mort's original comment as "Shit occasionally happens" and your comment as "Shit regularly happens." That is, to me, Mort seems to be saying that even with all champs available, bad matchups happen sometimes, but, again to me, you seemed to be saying that unlocking all champs didn't affect how often those matchups happened. I apologize if I misread either comment.

Threadly reminder that ARAM's problems stem from being limited to a single queue.

Whether you personally agree with the perspective or not, it's perfectly valid for someone to dislike bans because one of their favorite champs got perma-banned. Maybe it's true that they don't enjoy the base concept of ARAM. However, ARAM's existed for almost seven years now. Maybe those players enjoy the reality of ARAM. It'd be a different story if ARAM was a new addition to League, but at this point, the tradition of ARAM has as much weight as the spirit of ARAM.

A Ranked ARAM queue would address much of this conflict. Ranked rewards help differentiate the queues to avoid the "Blind Pick vs. Draft" situation. Meanwhile, separate queues allow for changes promoting the spirit of ARAM (e.g. bans, full champ roster) to avoid impacting the tradition of ARAM (i.e. the existing queue). There's even an additional bonus in that Ranked ARAM helps fill the niche of rewarding generalists that Riot continues to struggle with.
