How is Janna a good support?

I've been hearing nothing but praise for Janna, but I'm not understanding why. No one gives a very detailed explanation. All they say is:

  • Her E gives a massive AD buff, assuming it isn't popped
  • Her W is a good slow
  • Passive movement speed
  • Ult displaces and messes up a lot of gap closers

Is there anything else I'm missing? I STILL don't understand why people like her. I mean, you can pop the shield easily, the w doesn't do a damn thing against anyone with an escape, and the ult leaves me SUPER vulnerable. Oh, and no one gets hit by the Q. Show me one DAMN video of people ACTUALLY getting outplayed by Janna's Q, and you have me on the hype train for this character.

Everything you listed is already amazing

Things she does

-Secures kills through her slow, use after opponents use escape, not before -Makes every assassin champion in the game who is on the enemy team want to cut themselves as she prevents every kill through her Q, her E and her R -The Ult heals your team for as long as you stand in the same spot, which can bring them from 20 to 100 EASILY if you do a full channel, and unlike kindreds ult, this doesn't heal your enemy team, only your team

Your job as Janna -To keep people alive with your toolkit that offers massive disruption and defensive play -Displace the enemy team to allow your team to isolate and kill champions

You do realize her Q can be pressed twice to cast the tornado pretty much immediately right? You don't just press it once unless are trying to keep them guessing what direction it's going to come from. I hit people with tornados nonstop with janna. She can shield not only allies but turrets as well and that shield is NOT WEAK. It's a strong shield. On top of that once she gets some AP going to return a low health ally from 200 HP left to 2.6k in 2 seconds. So you tell me. How is that NOT beneficial?

I mean you listed all of her best qualities, so idk what you're missing. She has massive potential for both engage and disengage, massive ad buff for your carry, which sure, might be popped, but if you're building decently and have the correct masteries they should also be getting attack speed, armor and mr from that shield as well. She's very squish, and I usually end like 0-5 or something because I'll sacrifice myself pretty often to let my carries get out of fights or survive long enough to win the fight. It's rewarding enough to get your carry get fed, because early game that shield will win you trades quite frequently if you use it at the right time.

Also, hit a skillshot, maybe?

In lcs the game is much more passive and alistar is picked in almost every single game, you're going to see a farm fest for the first 20 which janna is good at

your choices basically come down to morgana, thresh, alistar, and janna

The fact that janna shield gives you a free Bloodthirster worth of damage at lvl 11 could also have something to do with it.

Though her squishyness makes alistar a more favorable pick considering he can peel almost just as well as her as well as being able to engage and actually take a hit.

The things you listed alone should show you how great she is as well as what people have been saying in the replies. Her kit just works really well.

People don't understand. Some champs are only good in high elo. Someone playing Janna that's of bronze level skill, is utterly useless, but if that person is diamond+ skill level, she can be the best support. A much better support for low elo would be Sona, or Leona.

You don't watch the LCS, do you?

She is known as "The Queen of Peels." She makes engaging onto her and her allies a real challenge because she has multiple forms of disengage built into her kit. So while her alies whittle you down with their poke she makes sure that nobody gets close enough to endanger her teammates.

Her disengage ability is probably the best in the game (unless they all line up for a fully charge Poppy Ult). It's incredibly hard to catch a group with Janna if they don't want to fight.

the ult leaves me SUPER vulnerable

You don't have to sit there and channel it. You can break it off instantly just to use the knockback if you need to.
