How do I CS PROPERLY?

DarkSentinel275·12/13/2015, 8:14:31 AM·3 votes·960 views

Every time I CS, I normally leave the creep at ~5-10 hp. This happens about half of the time or more, so this means that the enemy usually has twice the CS I have, assuming I haven't put enough pressure to make them mess up. So...

How do I stop this habit, aside from, "practice, practice, practice"?

What I do that helps me is kinda test my damage on minions. I know at level 1 on like Irelia I do, let's say, 68 damage to minions with my runes and masteries. I click on minions and wait for other minions to attack them and wait for it to be as close to 68 but obviously below it.

Go back, buy items, attack a minion once to see the damage number then wait for the minions to get below that HP. Aside from that, just practice really.

You have to get a feel for the champion. Take notice of how much damage your auto-attacks will do and last-hit. One common problem I see, is that people will try to only last hit... Don't be afraid to use spells on minions too for the gold. If you're playing champions with low base attack like Swain or have too much trouble last hitting, try taking some attack damage runes to make it easier at first, and then slowly take off the attack damage runes when you're confident enough to last hit without attack damage runes.

Try avoiding attacking the same minion more than twice. If you're more focused on farming than poking then conserve your resources and use your abilities against minions you won't be able to last hit.

so, questions: Do you use champion abilities to help you cs? (when practicing, don't. when in real matches...it varies, still try not to)

have you tried repeated 5 min custom games to practice? (it didn't take me very many of these to triple my average cs)

Do you click the minion and check its actual hp total, or just guess by the health bar?

How do you normally do with trades against your lane opponent?

When in the game, and how often do you check your CS against your opponents?

for myself, the biggest issue for cs is that I use a large number of champions and they all have different attack speeds and more importantly their attack animations take different amounts of time to complete. the only ways to get used to that are 1) practice 2) play a warm-up custom game before going ranked.

last one here is curiosity: what champions have you been using?

Runes. But really, once you get the basics down playing league move on to dota for awhile. learning to last hit in dota WILL help you in league; Dota skills are 100% transferable to league (although league skills only translate the basics)

Perhaps you are focusing too much on creating pressure in lane. It's good to have pressure but if you are missing cs for it then you need to just focus on the basics.

Well you just need to...

aside from, "practice, practice, practice"?

Oh, nevermind. In that case the answer is nothing. There is absolutely nothing you can do to get better at cs'ing

It's literally just practicing and acquiring the feel for it. Just play more games. Different champions have different autoattack animations, wind-ups, and speeds.
