Should Zac be able to Pick-Up Blobs with his Q?

Currently, Zac's Q feels mediocre and I've got a way to make it feel more satisfying for skilled players. He can now pick-up blobs with his Q! It makes sense for Zac thematically to be able to absorb another part of his body that he touches (especially with his hands).

In terms of power, I think it's a tiny buff because you're focusing Q on players not collecting blobs (otherwise you lose a lot of CC and damage). Zac's sitting at 48% in Platinum+ and almost never sees competitive play so I doubt this would push him over the edge in any way. However, it would be a really cool QoL and thematic change for jungle Zac.

The bigger concern is if it would make lane Zac annoying. Here too, I don't think it's a serious issue. Lane Zac is no longer strong and this is a minor change. First of all, he has to use 4% of his current health to cast Q and pick-up the blob so it's by no means free. If Q only hits the blob, it also wouldn't create more blobs to heal from. Secondly, he is now more vulnerable to retaliation because one of his main damage/CC spells is on CD. Lastly, Q's range sits at merely 550 (the same as a standard ADC). Many times, the blobs wouldn't even spawn in range of Q and he still has to make an effort to get closer. It seems like a last resort when an opponent is out-trading you hard. It could make for some nice escapes to Q a blob and your opponent while running away.

This change just makes sense to me and seems far more consistent. What do you guys think?

BTW: This idea first came to me here.

Voted no for the same reason. I read that post a few months ago and while I do agree that Zac's Q is very underwhelming as a harass tool and effective cc, the ability to abuse this is a much greater threat. I would however like to see some changes to the distance that the blobs fly away from him when an enemy is present. Possibly a randomization of the distance they fly (some close some far). It went from having no counter-play to effectively preventing Zac from trading in top lane when the blobs always fly 400 units towards the enemy...

I'm gonna go with no, with this.

I doubt this would be so strong on lane Zac since he would have to spend 8% of his current health to recover 4% of his maximum health. This would all be while being vulnerable to retaliation because one of his main CC/damage tools is on CD. If he's at near full HP, the health cost would be more than what's recovered. It would mostly be used coming from a position of weakness, when Zac is already fairly low. It sounds stronger on lane Zac than it actually is.

Except this lets him recover more than he would have before (FYI most of the time that 4% max is way more than 8% current).

The problem is that it removes the number 1 counterplay that lane Zac has, stepping on his blobs. Because basically every time someone goes to step on a blob, you get a free Q to hit them with (because without this change, the hp from the blob would have been lost anyways, so he isnt spending 8% to get 4% total, he is spending 4% to get 4%.

it would break even at 50% health. "most of the time" would only apply if he stayed below 50% health most of the time.

but i agree - i dont like the idea that he can harass and heal at the same time. one scenario would be the free blob he gets on the Q if you try to step on a blob. Another would be him Q-ing through a blob betweel you two.

Glad im not the only one who remembers that Red post.

I would fucking love for this change, even as a jungle Zac player.

But this would send his solo lane through the fucking roof in terms of power.

His Q is rather meh, but I dont really know how youd fix it without completely breaking him as a character.

That's... not a bad idea, actually. It makes sense that Zac should be able to pick up his blobs with his own hands.

Yeah, they nerfed Zac a while back by increasing the distance they go.... Seems like they designed them to fly directly at the closest enemy and land slightly behind them so they can step on it while laugh taunting at you...

So Zac's passive went from a sustain mechanic that actually took effort to get the HP back, as opposed to freakish lifesteal like Nasus, down to a self trolling mechanic where using ur abilities hurts you... The distance increase was maybe needed, but was a tiny bit knee-jerk sized nerf.

I like the idea of random distances... and ffs, random directions THEY ALL GO TOWARD THE ENEMY.

They only go further if there is a visible enemy champion within 1000 units of Zac. This was done to nerf top Zac which was a highly contested yet not-worth-a-ban pick in season 3. It doesn't affect you when jungling (unless you get invaded).

I agree with this. I tried quite a few zac game before giving up on him. His q is just so awful. So awful. You can not chase someone to save your life. Even if you hit them with q, you are unlikely to see any change in their movement speed or health because human eyes can not pick up on such small details. And lane zac? I don't know who's great idea it was to send all zac's health to the enemy on a silver plate. Like you basically kill yourself in lane and in return you get to make the enemy laugh at you because he's taking all your health? The only thing you can reliable hit in lane is q, which as stated before is not enough to chase or hurt someone. What I'm trying to say here is why do you hate zac so much rito? Even aatrox doesn't throw his health at the enemies for crying out loud.

If there are reasons that this can't be done, I'm still not done with Q! It is currently such a boring and unrewarding skill. I can't even get in range to use W after I Q someone.

My other idea is to let Zac use Q to dash to blobs (a bit like Nautilus does with his Dredge Line but without the CC from it). Blobs spawn somewhat randomly but I still think this would be a helpful change and very fun to play with for skilled players. Moreover, it would do almost nothing for lane Zac since now he has to get his whole body in range to pick up the blob (all while no longer having one of his CC/damage spells available for a fight).

Let me know if you guys like this one even better. I made a separate thread for it here. Thanks!

What do you mean ? That 20% slow is not good enough ?

But muh blobs still keep throwing themselves at the enemy :c WHY WON't YOU LoVE ME? QQ

Interesting points, I think my second idea is more interesting gameplay-wise anyway and Zac would need to make himself vulnerable to pick-up blobs using it.

Why not let the Q be able to pick them up but them heal at a reduced effectiveness. For example they then only heal 2% or 3% of him max Hp instead?

Borbland1 votes

Awesome idea ! Never thought of this, but it could help something like Zac top to pick up far blobs.
