Before he had range to deal with Mages, now he doesn't have the range instead he has the Burst to deal with melee champions.

He was originally a mid mage. I believe Ahri's release and subsequent popularity completely pushed him out of the lane as he was niche before hand

Waiting till people catch on that his Q has a VERY short cd and probably can be played bot lane with nunu or lulu.

Why are you looking at the stat of the actual ability, but not look at the situation it could not be efficient in? It's short range, a Mage in short range mode is very vulnerable to tanks and CC aswell as ADC. Swain doesn't have the slipperyness of Vladimir.

I mentioned Q cause it is one of his defining factors. He has alot of sustain and is mid ranged. His Q does extra damage if you shotgun it but it does good damage if you only manage to hit one. You can also catch people off guard with the fact that if it is a killing hit on a minion, it will go through it. He also has his own CC that can be combo'd into his W which will do alot of damage and sustain him alot. With the upcoming AP item changes and nunu being a thing he can go tear and stay in lane forever. His ult is a 2v1 ult and has great range.

Only time will tell but I believe he could be a decent apc bot.

I don't think he might be played bottom lane as an APC. Because if Graves could not ADC why would he be able? Just reminding you that Grave AA work similar to his Q.

Thats true but shotgun man doesnt have his sustain nor inate tankiness from his ult. Graves AA is a much shorter range than Swains Q.
