i'm kinda sick of how hard this community hates on the champs that take passion to master and play

It seems like everyone wants to rip on a certain type of champions, high skill CAP micro based champions who with mastery are difficult to fight against. These champions I generally like to think of as Brawlers since most of them are in the fighter or assassin class though some exceptions exist. I used this list in a previous post and I think it gives a decent idea of the type of champion i'm talking about:Partial and very incomplete list Azir Akali Camille Ekko Fiora Fizz Irelia Katarina Kayn LeeSin Gangplank Jayce Pyke Riven Sylas Vi Yasuo Nidalee Zed

look, these champions sometimes take a combination of hours of practice and loads of actual calm calculation just to be able to get a single kill with. They offer a lot of interesting and unique playstyles, they are reliable in most metas, and through mastery they offer some of the most satisfying and well deserved wins.

First off, mastery of these champions DOES mean you've mastered a part of the game, Them having a higher winrate then a champion like Garen Malphite after hundreds of games one tricking is not indicative of being overpowered.

Most one tricks of these champions are focused on Micro intensive dueling and picks, it's what we do. We learn how to fight you, we take the time to master a part of the game, and we use that knowledge to win matches. Many of us aren't even that great at macro for our tier. You say the champions are overpowered but then you don't stop to ask "Did these guys win this match by maintaining a level of skill they can only express on a class of champion?" or how about " Did they put in an assload of effort to do that 1v5?" And finally "did they legitimately play well enough at the ONE THING THEY'RE DOING to deserve it."

People say 'this isn't call of duty' they say it's a team game. Whats non-participatory about mastering a niche in the game and performing that niche as hard as you can to better allow your team to function by having more map awareness, more gold, and more experience because you took that 1v3 and made it last for 2 solid minutes.

a guy with iron or bronze map awareness can pull off plat level plays and manuevers in combat and land in silver or gold. that pattern keeps going up, even at the highest levels of play there are people who are better at macro then others, and there are people who are better at those lit zed plays, or the yasuo plays, or the riven plays. They've honed their champion pool to a certain level and know what you're going to throw at them.

Just as it's okay for Garen to be considered weak for years in high MMR for being a champion for beginners, I think it's fine for Riven and over two dozen other champions to have higher viability at higher elos because otherwise the expression of a very important skill in the game would otherwise be capped. Macro expression isn't capped, micro very much is in some metas.

Look i'm not putting anyone down if they're kicking ass on nautilus and doing what 90% of players are doing in team fights, which is a specific team role. I'm actively trying to show you that we have a place alongside you. You do the team fights, you guard two of the carries, you show the majority of force. But what i'm saying is that if we can't do these flashy things on champs like Irelia then the purpose and identity of our champs is completely nullified.

There have been a few metas in the past which removed these champions, metas in which mega tanks are important, shut down many of them. There is no harder counter to almost every single one of these champiosn then Maokai This guy is a massive pain in the ass and he has 2 point and click cc abilities as well as a screen wide snare and effectively infinite HP in a duel when his class gets buffed just a little too much.

That's the thing, There is an issue on the rift with finding balance. But I think that among these champions there is a solution. They all share one thing: Options.

a lee sin or fiora mirror match could end up with one guy getting two kills, but then after he buys the other guy just flat outskills him. It feels really good on miss fortune to perfectly kite an opponent from mid lane all the way down the river to bot lane, that feels good. Your entire power budget for your class is in ranged attacks.

by comparison if two lucians mirror match and one guy just gets the first kill, that one longsword of a difference will practically guarantee him the rest of the game assuming they farm the same.

that's not to say that these players don't know their roles well, their itemization, their positioning, who to focus in a team fight, what to do with what buffs, kiting to some insane level, etc etc, it just means that they are more stat dependent and have a better time in certain roles than other champions.

you know what a lucian can do that a riven can't in a tank meta? Kill maokai.

And you mages? oh man... Look I know that we're the bane of your existence... but if it's any consolation.. I think it's because your itemization pool is so linear right now. AP items are supposed to be super interesting.. but honestly the AD pool is generally better on passives and the tank pool is better on actives. of the cool AP actives, 3 share the same timeritem 3030 item 3146 item 3152 , one is required item 3157 and the other one takes like 6 years to unlock item 3040. I get it. sorry. but don't blame another class for needing itemization buffs, Itemization could solve it pretty decently.

TL:DR mechanical champs are balls to the wall awesome so plz stop hating us

No, speaking in my official capacity as a Yasuo main (well, when I was playing regularly), higher skillcap does not justify higher power. You're wrong.

We don't hate mechanical champions. We hate champions without any form of reaction windows because they just faceroll you or die without doing anything.

And "braindead champ" isn't a good excuse for why you died.

Lastly; Fizz, Ekko, Fiora, Akali, Camille, Irelia, Kayn, Gangplank, Sylas, Pyke, Riven, and Vi are not "high complexity champs". Le Blanc, Zed, and Ryze fit that better. If a champion has a high statistical winrate on first timers, like say, Riven, theyre objectively easy to play. Any and all resourceless champions are easy to play. The only hard part of Fizz is his high mana costs. 95% of champions in league aren't hard to play because League just isnt that hard of a game and a champion being "hard" or "simple" isn't a good reason why you lost.

except riven doesnt have a high statistical winrate on first timers? https://twitter.com/riotblaustoise/status/1074749440206954496?lang=en

uh but dont worry stats from riot themselves are lies its a fucking conspiracy to sell more riven skins

edit: and like always the silver boards downvote without any argument because they cant come up with any

Sir Saltarin3 votes

They dont like the data, I also talked about how acording to Riot Blaustoise data the champs with the lowest skill ceilling in the games were Malphite Leona Shyvana Volibear Varus Nami

But it didn't matter, they still all said that the champs with lowest skill ceilling were Lulu Janna for reasons

Kazekiba1 votes

Only players with 250 games manage a 53% winrate? You cant seriously expect someone to believe 95% of Riven games are played by one tricks when shes THE most played champion in the game right now.

If shes being played so much, by mostly people with single digit games, her WR should be horrifically low, and well above average when mastered.

But currently we aren't seeing that performance trend. ALL riven players are dangerous, ALL Riven players have a higher chance of winning games on her than even mindless champions like Voli or Pantheon. Her mastery curve isn't relevant anymore at all.

Her autos hit too hard, her CC is always up once she has two items built, and her "low" cases still gets a Knockup + huge burst and theres not much you can do to prevent it.

ChallengerTier1 votes

yeah that cant possibly be true, lets assume every riven player has just picked up her and is qqqing to victory every game, ignore stats from riot themselves. not surprised though coming from someone whos been fucking bronze for 4 seasons LOL

Gangplank is a complex champion, tho I disagree on Vi, Riven, Kayn, Irelia and Akali.

Kazekiba1 votes

Ah yes. The classic "I get last hit assistance and free zone control in 3 zones at once to permashove or freeze lanes at will" champion.

Very complex, such decision making. Wow.

He rewards macro understanding to an unprecedented degree but micro is Yi tier, one-button wonder. Theres no mechanical complexity to GP.

The perfect match for the Gameplay Boards, only 5 champs exist and every game is.

Nasus vs Nasus Volibear vs Volibear Morgana vs Morgana Mordekaiser vs Mordekaiser Taric vs Taric

No dashes ? Check

No ADC ? Check

No assasin ? Check

Mage mid ? Check

I don't know if i want to play that meta or not... it might be fun for a few weeks

Sir Saltarin2 votes

As a filthy Morgana Mid player when I'm not on adcs I have to say that I would find it fun for a while, and a while means 1 week or less.

And I dont hate Azir because he's hard rock play bur because he's the worst abomination ever created on this game in terms of kit design, he could have 30% winrate on soloQ and he still would need nerfs, same goes to Ryze.

I partially agree with you, up to a point.

The problem people have isn't skill cap, it's skill floor.

For example, when I first picked up Taliyah, I fed my ass multiple games, she's not easy, she can do a lot and seem "braind dead" to Yasuo mains, but playing her not perfectly, just good, takes quite the skill, so if I'd lose to a Taliyah, I'll be like "damn, that gal rocks".

Then there's Zed, where I only fucked up 4 games total on him, 1 of them being where I was forced to play him in ranked vs a 2 mil point Vladimir (that guy did a perfect 1v3 on his first roam on bot lane, so I'm not even mad I lost to him, would've lost regardless what I played), the other 3 being over 2 years ago, when Zed required actual skill so I expected to fuck up, but the recent games? It's too damn easy to get things done as Zed as long as you have some game knowledge. I fucked combos, didn't even tried to hit the 3 Q as I knew I can't, only did it once and I blew the Vayne through PD and Heal.

Currently, for some of these champs that are "hard to play", their skill floor is at a point where it's too easy to do stuff if you know what you need to and how to manage targets, but that's a role specific thing, not a champ specific. Managing targets as Zed isn't much different from other assassins, just the MO differs. Heck, laning as Zed is much easier than laning as Akali (tho must be my luck, I can't play Akali without being 1v2-3, but I never got camped as Zed, so......take that last part with a grain of salt), laning as Zed is much easier than many other champions because no ability costs early (if you run out of energy in the early game, you fucked up hard), easy last hit asistent (that thing needs removed.....like 2 years ago), hard to dodge combo if used with half a neuron (just put the W on the enemy and instant E, then the Q is easy to hit). And yes, I played Zed, so I'm not a 0 mastery guy who talks just because. When I got him, I got him because the concept was interesting and at the time he fit the style of play I have, but now? He's just a fucking coward, stay back, poke with your combo, go all in for the tracer, oops, you're fed.

Although at the very high elos you need to actually master those champions to make them work, so I do agree that if you're Diamond, Master, etc, Zed is an in mechanically intense champion, but in the lower elos, his safe nature and skill set makes him too easy to pick up.

I get raped by a good Azir or Nidalee, gal, you got my respect, here's my number, wanna go out? I'd like to learn from you.

I lose to a Zed who goes 0-3, gets his Duskblade, roams bot for a double then comes mid to one shot me through Tabi and Seeker's? I did it to others, so I know how easy it is to do it. Yes, I'm exaggerating by a bit, it's not Yi or Garen level of easy, but it's not Azir either.

They are hated because some of these mechanically intense champions are currently too easy to pick up and perform decently with. Trust me, if Azir was as easy to pick up as Zed, everyone would bitch about him because we all know strong he is when mastered, so everyone respects a good Azir, but no-one will respect a Zed unless they all are in the very high elos where the Zed actually has to pull of those insane plays to make stuff happen, but in the lower elos where all you gotta do is R, auto, E, Ignite, miss all Q, W back and "LEGENDARY"....yea....no respect.

If these champions would get their actual skill requirement back, I guarantee you that they will also get their respect back.

The Chillin2 votes

Don't do that here, the population of boards is low elo shitposters that jerk themselves off to adcs and mages. You are correct though, objectively speaking.

Josh Sand1 votes

I think champions that take a long time to master are good for the game. I just want them more evenly distributed among the roles.

Support doesn't have anything with a complexity level equivalent to an Akali, Irelia, Yasuo, etc. And I really wish that would change, but it's not. We will continue to get basic ass champions for as long as this game is alive.

Maybe its because whenever someone mentions this fact, all the idiots swarm on you shouting "Thresh!" and "Bard!" when anyone with a cursory understanding of champion mechanics would never come to that conclusion

Beerstein1 votes

I walked in with "I swear to god if you say zed is hard" then opened it, saw zed and downvoted. I'm told he's harder at high MMR because people are so aware of his kit, but at lower MMR it's just hold your mouse over the enemy and faceroll your keybaord.

Ragnaveil1 votes

Tell me. In what world is it fun that you beat the shit out of someone who plays badly on Riven, then the moment they get 6 while you have a item lead on them translates to you being dead because of how unnecessarily strong she is. Skill on her at this point is a afterthought. Just press R and mow people down then execute them in practically one rotation + R2. The only counters she really has are early game counters, but once 6 happens it just goes to shit. lol
