How Do You Get Over Locked Camera?

Shukuchi·6/23/2016, 10:38:14 PM·7 votes·3,565 views

I have been using locked camera ever since and wanted to use unlocked camera since it has an advantage towards your gameplay, but I just can't seem to get over it. Every time I get on unlocked camera, 5 seconds later, I switched it right back and forget about it after 10 minutes. I really want to get over with this habit and want to get some help and tips on how to get over locked camera and getting into the habit of using unlocked camera.

  1. Unlock the camera
  2. Unbind the toggle key (I think it defaults to 'Y')
  3. Play the game

Somewhat related, I tend to play champions with global ultimates whenever I want to work on my map awareness. I'll grab someone like Ashe, Gangplank or Karthus and just watch around the map whenever I have down-time.

Doing something similar might help you get in the habit of moving the map around.

Unbind the camera toggle button and use space-bar if you need to center the camera on yourself for whatever reason. Just gotta grit your teeth and do it, and you'll adjust before too long.

Use Spacebar baddy. We still use it.

Don't listen to "there are those who Diamond+ with locked", you are not on that level. You are not Diamond+. Until then, climb with unlocked.

I spam spacebar very often during the game because I lose track of where I am.

Unbind the hotkeys.

Some people never did and are still climbing past diamond+.

Sometimes if you hit Y and it still doesn't unlock, if you just left click on the map and drag it around a bit it'll "break out of it" and unlock like normal.

EDIT: Also, Space will snap you back in to locked camera mode while you hold it. That's better for finding yourself than using Y to relock it totally.

if you have a RTS background (I used to play Starcraft, Warcraft and DOTA) locked camera isn't even an option.

Honestly, don't worry about it. I've been playiing locked screen since I started playing the game in pre-season 2, and I'm a plat 2 adc main now.

As long as you're unlocking it to look around and keep tabs on the rest of the game, you won't have a problem if you're laning and teamfighting with the screen locked.

Simply put, if your map awareness is bad, it'll be bad whether your screen is locked or not.

I always play locked camera, the only time I unlock it is when I'm playing a champ with long range abilities. Bard for example, I'll unlock to fire exactly where I want his ult.

i just leave my camera locked, the less mouse movements you have to do the less errors you will make

Could this work? Like just making the default lock screen switch (Y) to something else that I won't use like (-). But then again, I would change it back to (Y) in the settings. Or I could glue a pin at the (Y) and won't click on it.

It used to trouble me but now I actually use both ways. Just practice, is really hard for the first 10 matches but you get over it. Maybe some ARAM or AI games?

I bind my lock screen toggle to spacebar instead of Y. That way, I can quickly and easily lock my screen when a team fight emerges, but if I need to scout out an area for a long range skillshot or track movement outside of my locked screen, I can tap spacebar and move my camera over. Then, once I've got the info I need, just tap spacebar again to lock your camera so you can go apeshit without worrying about your screen, or having your fingers miss-placed trying to press 'Y'. This is just my preference though, and as an ADC main who plays a lot of high mobility champs (Lucian, Kalista, Yasuo) I constantly need to switch between locked and unlocked.

Find what works for you, but if you want to see vast improvement in gameplay, find a way to fit in unlocking your screen into your gameplay.

Change your camera scroll speed if there is really an issue.

I played alot of adcs that had global ultimates. I started off in bots id ult top or mid and try to take their kill

After i got better with it i played normals. After a bunch of games you just get use to it.

Play champs with globals

Ashe, jinx, shen, ezreal,Nocturne and Twisted Fate(not global but close enough)

Once you get use to them everyone else gets easier. If the screen moves to fast lower the sensitivity in the in-game menu

Playing champions that require any sort of long distance awareness feels completely awful with a locked camera. Not even just champions with champs with global ults, but there are a ton. Playing jungle and scouting around the map and making sure your team is doing alright. Playing support and warding while keeping tabs on whoever you should be sticking with can be really bad with locked camera. Even ADCing as someone like Caitlyn, Jinx, or Ashe just feels gross when you can't fully utilize your auto attack range.

How do you watched the map with camera locked lol seems like gimping yourself.

vampirekid136/24/2016, 9:45:23 AM1 votes

what i do is i have the camera toggle set on space, and whenever i need locked camera, i press space, then take my thumb off of it when i dont need it. i have unlocked camera most of the time, but when i keep space pressed its locked, which helps me for quick centering on my character.

then again im bronze, so any advice i give try at your own risk.

Play a RTS (real time strategy, like age of empires something cheap and old). Seriously, you'll get used to the movements you'll need to do unlocked camera in league.

Frnak6/23/2016, 11:46:04 PM1 votes

I use the "lock when key is pressed" to quickly bring it back to me. I use spacebar for this. EDIT: it ONLY is locked when I have the key pushed. When I release, it is no longer locked.

It's a HUGE advantage to be unlocked. You can spot check other areas for global ults, TP, etc.

Hell, does anyone actually use teleport in a locked screen!?
