Watch this stream, where a dude asks Meddler questions on different champions. He talk about Jayce at 1:42:30 (almost at the end) where he says that he feels Jayce is "on the edge on being a really good competitive pick, and played in LCK", but might need some item support.

So there we have it. The guy talking to Meddler seems clearly baffled, I was too, and i am sure all Jayce-mains will be. I think new items are a long way off, considering Duskblade just got introduced. So im sorry friends and fellow followers of MC Hammer, he is gonna stay in this weak state for a very long time.

He's so close to becoming unstoppable Just lower his e cool down to match his q cool down and he becomes relevant Otherwise people can just play varus, and get better outcomes

That would be a huge buff, halving his E cooldown! And they won't buff him. Besides, Mid Varus can do only one thing: Q-poke. Everything else is just peel. To make Jayce just an EQ bot, would waste his very interesting W i ranged, and make the melee form obsolete - that's half of his skillset! Jayce can be so much more than a poke bot (even though poke is a core strength!) but right now he can neither go melee nor poke if he falls just a tiny bit behind.
